The candidate metal oxides (e.g., titanium oxide and silicon oxide) used for the microencapsulation of thermochromic materials are based on the microemulsion route that involves the micelle formation using different surfactants. The effectiveness of the core-shell microstructure formationrevealed the influence of surfactants and the metal oxide precursor concentrations. Additionally, a detailed thermal and color chromic behavior of these core-shell microcapsules are evaluated with the pristine thermochromic dye particles. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=core-shell%20thermochromic%20materials" title="core-shell thermochromic materials">core-shell thermochromic materials</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=core-shell%20microstructure%20formation" title=" core-shell microstructure formation"> core-shell microstructure formation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermal%20and%20color%20chromic%20behavior%20of%20core-shell%20microcapsules" title=" thermal and color chromic behavior of core-shell microcapsules"> thermal and color chromic behavior of core-shell microcapsules</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=development%20micro-capsulated%20thermochromic%20materials" title=" development micro-capsulated thermochromic materials"> development micro-capsulated thermochromic materials</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/147686/microstructural-investigations-of-metal-oxides-encapsulated-thermochromic-materials" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/147686.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">158</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">70</span> Effect of Gel Concentration on Physical Properties of an Electrochromic Device</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sharan%20K.%20Indrakar">Sharan K. An electrochromic device consisting of polyaniline (PANI) has a redox-active gel electrolyte placed between two conducting transparent fluorine-doped tin oxide glass substrates. The redox-active composite gel is a mixture of different concentrations of aniline (monomer), a water-soluble polymer poly (vinyl alcohol), hydrochloric acid, and an oxidant. The EC device shows the color change from dark green to transparent for the applied potential between -0.5 V to +2.0 V. The coloration and decoloration of the ECs were tested for electrochemical behavior using techniques such as cyclic voltammetry (CV), chronoamperometry (CA), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The optical transparency of the EC devices was examined at two different biasing voltage conditions under UV-visible spectroscopic technique; the result showed 65% transmittance at 564 nm and zero transmittance when the cell was biased at 0.0 V and 2.0 V, the synthesized mol fraction gel was analyzed for surface morphology and structural properties by scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transformer spectroscopy. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electrochromic" title="electrochromic">electrochromic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gel%20electrolyte" title=" gel electrolyte"> gel electrolyte</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polyaniline" title=" polyaniline"> polyaniline</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=conducting%20polymer" title=" conducting polymer"> conducting polymer</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/136080/effect-of-gel-concentration-on-physical-properties-of-an-electrochromic-device" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/136080.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">138</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">69</span> Compressed Suffix Arrays to Self-Indexes Based on Partitioned Elias-Fano</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Guo%20Wenyu">Guo Wenyu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Qu%20Youli"> Qu Youli</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A practical and simple self-indexing data structure, Partitioned Elias-Fano (PEF) - Compressed Suffix Arrays (CSA), is built in linear time for the CSA based on PEF indexes. Moreover, the PEF-CSA is compared with two classical compressed indexing methods, Ferragina and Manzini implementation (FMI) and Sad-CSA on different type and size files in Pizza &amp; Chili. The PEF-CSA performs better on the existing data in terms of the compression ratio, count, and locates time except for the evenly distributed data such as proteins data. The observations of the experiments are that the distribution of the &phi; is more important than the alphabet size on the compression ratio. Unevenly distributed data &phi; makes better compression effect, and the larger the size of the hit counts, the longer the count and locate time. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=compressed%20suffix%20array" title="compressed suffix array">compressed suffix array</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=self-indexing" title=" self-indexing"> self-indexing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=partitioned%20Elias-Fano" title=" partitioned Elias-Fano"> partitioned Elias-Fano</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PEF-CSA" title=" PEF-CSA"> PEF-CSA</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/65986/compressed-suffix-arrays-to-self-indexes-based-on-partitioned-elias-fano" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/65986.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">252</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">68</span> Multi-Criterial Analysis: Potential Regions and Height of Wind Turbines, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Claudio%20L.%20M.%20Souza">Claudio L. This work presents results obtained by multi-criteria decision analysis, and it establishes a hierarchy, regarding the installation of wind farms, among geopolicy regions in the state of ‘Rio de Janeiro’, Brazil: ‘Regiao Norte-RN’, ‘Regiao dos Lagos-RL’ and ‘Regiao Serrana-RS’. The wind regime map indicates only these three possible regions with an average annual wind speed of above of 6.0 m/s. The method applied was the Analytical Hierarchy Process-AHP, designed to prioritize and rank the three regions based on four criteria as follows: 1) potential of the site and average wind speeds of above 6.0 ms-¹, 2) average land value, 3) distribution and interconnection to electric network with the highest number of electricity stations, and 4) accessibility with proximity and quality of highways and flat topography. The values of energy generation were calculated for wind turbines 50, 75, and 100 meters high, considering the production of site (GWh/Km²) and annual production (GWh). The weight of each criterion was attributed by six engineers and by analysis of Road Map, the Map of the Electric System, the Map of Wind Regime and the Annual Land Value Report. The results indicated that in 'RS', the demand was estimated at 2,000 GWh, so a wind farm can operate efficiently in 50 m turbines. This region is mainly mountainous with difficult access and lower land value. With respect to ‘RL’, the wind turbines have to be installed at a height of 75 m high to reach a demand of 6,300 GWh. This region is very flat, with easy access, and low land value. Finally, the ‘NR’ was evaluated as very flat and with expensive lands. In this case, wind turbines with 100 m can reach an annual production of 19,000 GWh. In this Region, the coast area was classified as of greater logistic, productivity and economic potential. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=AHP" title="AHP">AHP</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=renewable%20energy" title=" renewable energy"> renewable energy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wind%20energy" title=" wind energy"> wind energy</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/88888/multi-criterial-analysis-potential-regions-and-height-of-wind-turbines-rio-de-janeiro-brazil" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/88888.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">151</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">67</span> Design of a Dietetic Food: Case of Lebanese Kishk</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Henri%20El%20Zakhem">Henri El Zakhem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dona%20Shalhoub"> Dona Shalhoub</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elias%20Atallah"> Elias Atallah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jessica%20Koura"> Jessica Koura</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Due to the increase of demand on dietetic food and the need for more types of diet food, the production of dietetic food is increasing and improving. Production of a low fat product which is diet Kishk was our concern. A strategy was followed to choose the right idea that will satisfy the need of the market. The whole process was studied and explained thoroughly. The percentage of fat was found to be 32.52 % in regular Kishk and 3.84 % in the diet Kishk produced. The deposition conditions for production of Ni-W coatings have been optimized for peak performance of their electrocatalytic activity, namely hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The corrosion behavior of the coatings were tested under working conditions of electrocatalysis (1M KOH). Electrocatalytic behaviours were tested by cyclic voltammetry and chrono-potentiometry techniques. Experimental results demonstrated that Ni-W coatings at low and high current densities (c. d.) showing superior performance for OER and HER respectively. The increased electrocatalytic activity for HER with increase of deposition c. d. was attributed to the phase structure, surface morphology and chemical composition of the coatings, confirmed by XRD, SEM and EDX analysis, respectively. The dependency of hardness and thickness of the coatings on HER and OER were examined, and results were discussed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electrocatalytic%20behavior" title="electrocatalytic behavior">electrocatalytic behavior</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=HER" title=" HER"> HER</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ni-W%20alloy" title=" Ni-W alloy"> Ni-W alloy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=OER" title=" OER"> OER</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/17794/ni-w-alloy-coatings-a-promising-electrode-material" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/17794.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">416</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">61</span> Vertical Distribution of Heavy Metals and Enrichment in Core Marine Sediments of East Malaysia by INAA and ICP-MS </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmadreza%20Ashraf">Ahmadreza Ashraf</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elias%20Saion"> Elias Saion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elham%20Gharib%20Shahi"> Elham Gharib Shahi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chee%20Kong%20Yap"> Chee Kong Yap</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohd%20Suhaimi%20Hamzah"> Mohd Suhaimi Hamzah</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Fifty-five core marine sediments from three locations at South China Sea and one location each at Sulu Sea and Sulawesi Sea of coastal East Malaysia was analyzed for heavy metals using Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis and Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectroscopy. In this paper, we introduce a novel method to perform the final phase of Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) measurement and to reduce the required test time according to the norm EN 55032 by using a developed tool and the conventional neural network(CNN). The neural network was trained using real EMC measurements, which were performed in the Semi Anechoic Chamber (SAC) by CETECOM GmbH in Essen, Germany. To implement our proposed method, we wrote software to perform the radiated electromagnetic interference (EMI) measurements and use the CNN to predict and determine the position of the turntable that meets the maximum radiation value. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=conventional%20neural%20network" title="conventional neural network">conventional neural network</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electromagnetic%20compatibility%20measurement" title=" electromagnetic compatibility measurement"> electromagnetic compatibility measurement</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mean%20absolute%20error" title=" mean absolute error"> mean absolute error</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=position%20error" title=" position error"> position error</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/143266/emi-radiation-prediction-and-final-measurement-process-optimization-by-neural-network" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/143266.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">200</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">59</span> Reciprocal Interferences in Bilingual English-Igbo Speaking Society: The Implications in Language Pedagogy</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ugwu%20Elias%20Ikechukwu">Ugwu Elias Ikechukwu </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Discussions on bilingualism have always dwelt on how the mother tongue interferes with the target language. This interference is considered a serious problem in second language learning. Usually, the interference has been phonological. But the objective of this research is to explore how the target language interferes with the mother tongue. In the case of the Igbo language, it interferes with English mostly at the phonological level while English interferes with Igbo at the realm of vocabulary. The result is a new language \"Engligbo\" which is a hybrid of English and Igbo. The Igbo language spoken by about 25 million people is one of the three most prominent languages in Nigeria. This paper discusses the phenomenal Engligbo, and other implications for Igbo learners of English. The method of analysis is descriptive. A number of recommendations were made that would help teachers handle problems arising from such mutual interferences. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=reciprocal%20interferences" title="reciprocal interferences">reciprocal interferences</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bilingualism" title=" bilingualism"> bilingualism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=implications" title=" implications"> implications</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=language%20pedagogy" title=" language pedagogy "> language pedagogy </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3835/reciprocal-interferences-in-bilingual-english-igbo-speaking-society-the-implications-in-language-pedagogy" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3835.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">399</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">58</span> Self Immolation and the Deactivation of State Necropower</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kate%20L.%20Yusi">Kate L. In this paper, the writer seeks to focus on self-immolation by Tibetan monks and other activists against Chinese imperialism, its continuing ethnic cleansing of the Tibetan people, forced assimilation, and territorial occupation. Here, the main driving force is this question: what does self-immolation mean to a people who are forced to live in deathspace? In other words, if one is reduced to nothingness that their deaths (as is their lives) become insignificant, in what ways does the reclamation of death/dying become a “way out” of this state-imposed enclave of death? To answer these questions, the writer engages with and put in conversation the works of Achille Mbembe, Elias Cannetti, and Giorgio Agamben. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=necropolitics" title="necropolitics">necropolitics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=self%20immolation" title=" self immolation"> self immolation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tibetan%20people" title=" tibetan people"> tibetan people</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=chinese%20imperialism" title=" chinese imperialism"> chinese imperialism</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/153517/self-immolation-and-the-deactivation-of-state-necropower" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/153517.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">114</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">57</span> Homomorphic Conceptual Framework for Effective Supply Chain Strategy (HCEFSC) within Operational Research (OR) with Sustainability and Phenomenology</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hussain%20Abdullah%20Al-Salamin">Hussain Abdullah Al-Salamin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elias%20Ogutu%20Azariah%20Tembe"> Elias Ogutu Azariah Tembe </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Supply chain (SC) is an operational research (OR) approach and technique which acts as catalyst within central nervous system of business today. After watching each clip, participants took a listening comprehension test. At the end of the experiment, participants completed a questionnaire to measure their perceptions about the use of captions and the video clips they watched. Results indicated that the full captioning group significantly outperformed both the keyword captioning and the no captioning group on the listening comprehension tests. Due to threshold structures commonly occurring in CRR models, the associated mathematical optimization problems have the significant characteristic of being strongly non-differentiable. In order to face this enormous task, the resolution method proposed adopts a smoothing strategy using a special C∞ differentiable class function. The final estimation solution is obtained by solving a sequence of differentiable subproblems which gradually approach the original conceptual problem. The use of this technique, called Hyperbolic Smoothing Method (HSM), makes possible the application of the most powerful minimization algorithms, and also allows for the main difficulties presented by the original CRR problem to be overcome. A set of computational experiments is presented for the purpose of illustrating both the reliability and the efficiency of the proposed approach. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rainfall-runoff%20models" title="rainfall-runoff models">rainfall-runoff models</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=automatic%20calibration" title=" automatic calibration"> automatic calibration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hyperbolic%20smoothing%20method" title=" hyperbolic smoothing method"> hyperbolic smoothing method</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/123935/the-hyperbolic-smoothing-approach-for-automatic-calibration-of-rainfall-runoff-models" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/123935.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">149</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">54</span> Maximizing Coverage with Mobile Crime Cameras in a Stochastic Spatiotemporal Bipartite Network</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=%28Ted%29%20Edward%20Holmberg">(Ted) Edward Holmberg</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mahdi%20Abdelguerfi"> Mahdi Abdelguerfi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elias%20Ioup"> Elias Ioup</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This research details a coverage measure for evaluating the effectiveness of observer node placements in a spatial bipartite network. The concentrations of the proteins in each phase were determined by spectrophotometry at 280 nm, finding partition efficiencies greater than 71%. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aqueous%20two%20phases%20systems" title="aqueous two phases systems">aqueous two phases systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bovine%20serum%20albumin" title=" bovine serum albumin "> bovine serum albumin </a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=liquid-liquid%20extraction" title=" liquid-liquid extraction"> liquid-liquid extraction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polyethylene%20glycol" title=" polyethylene glycol"> polyethylene glycol</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/103304/phase-diagrams-and-liquid-liquid-extraction-in-aqueous-biphasic-systems-formed-by-polyethylene-glycol-and-potassium-sodium-tartrate-at-30315-k" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/103304.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">158</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">52</span> The Solvent Extraction of Uranium, Plutonium and Thorium from Aqueous Solution by 1-Hydroxyhexadecylidene-1,1-Diphosphonic Acid </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20Bouhoun%20Ali">M. The HHDPA was previously synthesized and characterized by FT-IR, 1H NMR, 31P NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The effects contact time, initial pH, initial metal concentration, aqueous/organic phase ratio, extractant concentration and temperature on the extraction process have been studied. An empirical modelling was performed by using a 25 full factorial design, and regression equation for extraction metals was determined from the data. The conventional log-log analysis of the extraction data reveals that ratios of extractant to extracted U(VI), Pu(IV) and Th(IV) are 1:1, 1:2 and 1:2, respectively. Thermodynamic parameters showed that the extraction process was exothermic heat and spontaneous. The obtained optimal parameters were applied to real effluents containing uranium(VI), plutonium(IV) and thorium(IV) ions. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=solvent%20extraction" title="solvent extraction">solvent extraction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=uranium" title=" uranium"> uranium</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=plutonium" title=" plutonium"> plutonium</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thorium" title=" thorium"> thorium</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=1-hydroxyhexadecylidene-1-1-diphosphonic%20acid" title=" 1-hydroxyhexadecylidene-1-1-diphosphonic acid"> 1-hydroxyhexadecylidene-1-1-diphosphonic acid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aqueous%20solution" title=" aqueous solution"> aqueous solution</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/37851/the-solvent-extraction-of-uranium-plutonium-and-thorium-from-aqueous-solution-by-1-hydroxyhexadecylidene-11-diphosphonic-acid" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/37851.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">288</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">51</span> Microstructure Characterization on Silicon Carbide Formation from Natural Wood</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Noor%20Leha%20Abdul%20Rahman">Noor Leha Abdul Rahman</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Koay%20Mei%20Hyie"> Koay Mei Hyie</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anizah%20Kalam"> Anizah Kalam</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Husna%20Elias"> Husna Elias</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Teng%20Wang%20Dung"> Teng Wang Dung</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Dark Red Meranti and Kapur, kinds of important type of wood in Malaysia were used as a precursor to fabricate porous silicon carbide. A carbon template is produced by pyrolysis at 850°C in an oxygen free atmosphere. The carbon template then further subjected to infiltration with silicon by silicon melt infiltration method. The infiltration process was carried out in tube furnace in argon flow at 1500°C, at two different holding time; 2 hours and 3 hours. Thermo gravimetric analysis was done to investigate the decomposition behavior of two species of plants. The resulting silicon carbide was characterized by XRD which was found the formation of silicon carbide and also excess silicon. The microstructure was characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and the density was determined by the Archimedes method. An increase in holding time during infiltration will increased the density as well as formation of silicon carbide. In this case, as it is accepted by the most of the researchers, there are outputs, which are produced by a DMU to be used as inputs in a future time. Those outputs are known as intermediates. The common models, in DDEA, do not take into account the shape of the distribution of those inputs, outputs or intermediates data, assuming that the distribution of the virtual value of them does not deviate from linearity. This weakness causes the limitation of the accuracy of the analytical power of the traditional DDEA models. In this paper, the authors, using the concept of piecewise linear inputs and outputs, propose an extended DDEA model. The proposed model increases the flexibility of the traditional DDEA models and improves the measurement of the dynamic performance of DMUs. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dynamic%20Data%20Envelopment%20Analysis" title="Dynamic Data Envelopment Analysis">Dynamic Data Envelopment Analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DDEA" title=" DDEA"> DDEA</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=piecewise%20linear%20inputs" title=" piecewise linear inputs"> piecewise linear inputs</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=piecewise%20linear%20outputs" title=" piecewise linear outputs"> piecewise linear outputs</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/86963/improving-the-analytical-power-of-dynamic-dea-models-by-the-consideration-of-the-shape-of-the-distribution-of-inputsoutputs-data-a-linear-piecewise-decomposition-approach" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/86963.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">161</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">49</span> Comparison of Transparent Nickel Doped Cobalt Sulfide and Platinum Counter Electrodes Used in Quasi-Solid State Dye Sensitized Solar Cells</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dimitra%20Sygkridou">Dimitra Sygkridou</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dimitrios%20Karageorgopoulos"> Dimitrios Karageorgopoulos</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elias%20Stathatos"> Elias Stathatos</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Evangelos%20Vitoratos"> Evangelos Vitoratos</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Transparent nickel doped cobalt sulfide was fabricated on a SnO2:F electrode and tested as an efficient electrocatalyst and as an alternative to the expensive platinum counter electrode. In order to investigate how this electrode could affect the electrical characteristics of a dye-sensitized solar cell, we manufactured cells with the same TiO2 photoanode sensitized with dye (N719) and employing the same quasi-solid electrolyte, altering only the counter electrode used. The cells were electrically and electrochemically characterized and it was observed that the ones with the Ni doped CoS2 outperformed the efficiency of the cells with the Pt counter electrode (3.76% and 3.44% respectively). Particularly, the higher efficiency of the cells with the Ni doped CoS2 counter electrode (CE) is mainly because of the enhanced photocurrent density which is attributed to the enhanced electrocatalytic ability of the CE and the low charge transfer resistance at the CE/electrolyte interface. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nickel%20doped%20cobalt%20sulfide" title="nickel doped cobalt sulfide">nickel doped cobalt sulfide</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=counter%20electrodes" title=" counter electrodes"> counter electrodes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dye-sensitized%20solar%20cells" title=" dye-sensitized solar cells"> dye-sensitized solar cells</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quasi-solid%20state%20electrolyte" title=" quasi-solid state electrolyte"> quasi-solid state electrolyte</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hybrid%20organic-inorganic%20materials" title=" hybrid organic-inorganic materials"> hybrid organic-inorganic materials</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29157/comparison-of-transparent-nickel-doped-cobalt-sulfide-and-platinum-counter-electrodes-used-in-quasi-solid-state-dye-sensitized-solar-cells" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29157.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">760</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">48</span> Holomorphic Prioritization of Sets within Decagram of Strategic Decision Making of POSM Using Operational Research (OR): Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) Analysis</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elias%20Ogutu%20Azariah%20Tembe">Elias Ogutu Azariah Tembe</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hussain%20Abdullah%20Habib%20Al-Salamin"> Hussain Abdullah Habib Al-Salamin </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> There is decagram of strategic decisions of operations and production/service management (POSM) within operational research (OR) which must collate, namely: design, inventory, quality, location, process and capacity, layout, scheduling, maintain ace, and supply chain. This paper presents an architectural configuration conceptual framework of a decagram of sets decisions in a form of mathematical complete graph and abelian graph. Mathematically, a complete graph is undirected (UDG), and directed (DG) a relationship where every pair of vertices are connected, collated, confluent, and holomorphic. There has not been any study conducted which, however, prioritizes the holomorphic sets which of POMS within OR field of study. The study utilizes OR structured technique known as The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) analysis for organizing, sorting and prioritizing (ranking) the sets within the decagram of POMS according to their attribution (propensity), and provides an analysis how the prioritization has real-world application within the 21st century. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=holomorphic" title="holomorphic">holomorphic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=decagram" title=" decagram"> decagram</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=decagon" title=" decagon"> decagon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=confluent" title=" confluent"> confluent</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=complete%20graph" title=" complete graph"> complete graph</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=AHP%20analysis" title=" AHP analysis"> AHP analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SCM" title=" SCM"> SCM</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=HRM" title=" HRM"> HRM</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=OR" title=" OR"> OR</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=OM" title=" OM"> OM</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=abelian%20graph" title=" abelian graph"> abelian graph</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/15177/holomorphic-prioritization-of-sets-within-decagram-of-strategic-decision-making-of-posm-using-operational-research-or-analytic-hierarchy-process-ahp-analysis" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/15177.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">402</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">47</span> 1D Convolutional Networks to Compute Mel-Spectrogram, Chromagram, and Cochleogram for Audio Networks</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elias%20Nemer">Elias Nemer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Greg%20Vines"> Greg Vines</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Time-frequency transformation and spectral representations of audio signals are commonly used in various machine learning applications. Training networks on frequency features such as the Mel-Spectrogram or Cochleogram have been proven more effective and convenient than training on-time samples. In practical realizations, these features are created on a different processor and/or pre-computed and stored on disk, requiring additional efforts and making it difficult to experiment with different features. In this paper, we provide a PyTorch framework for creating various spectral features as well as time-frequency transformation and time-domain filter-banks using the built-in trainable conv1d() layer. This allows computing these features on the fly as part of a larger network and enabling easier experimentation with various combinations and parameters. Our work extends the work in the literature developed for that end: First, by adding more of these features and also by allowing the possibility of either starting from initialized kernels or training them from random values. The code is written as a template of classes and scripts that users may integrate into their own PyTorch classes or simply use as is and add more layers for various applications. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=neural%20networks%20Mel-Spectrogram" title="neural networks Mel-Spectrogram">neural networks Mel-Spectrogram</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=chromagram" title=" chromagram"> chromagram</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cochleogram" title=" cochleogram"> cochleogram</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=discrete%20Fourrier%20transform" title=" discrete Fourrier transform"> discrete Fourrier transform</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PyTorch%20conv1d%28%29" title=" PyTorch conv1d()"> PyTorch conv1d()</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/133529/1d-convolutional-networks-to-compute-mel-spectrogram-chromagram-and-cochleogram-for-audio-networks" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/133529.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">233</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">46</span> The Involvement of Viruses and Fungi in the Pathogenesis of Dental Infections</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wael%20Khalil">Wael Khalil</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elias%20Rahal"> Elias Rahal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ghassan%20Matar"> Ghassan Matar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Tooth related infections or commonly named dental infections have been described as the most common causes of tooth loss in adults. These pathologies were mostly periodontitis, pericoronitis, and periapical infection. The involvement of various bacteria in the pathogenesis of these pathologies has been thoroughly mentioned and approved in the literature. However, the variability in the severity and prognosis of these lesions among patients suggests the association of other pathogens, like viruses and fungi, in the pathogenesis of these lesions. Several studies in the literature investigated the association of multiple viruses and fungi with the above-mentioned lesions, yet, a vast controversy was reached concerning this subject.Aim: Our study aims to fill the gap in the literature concerning the contribution of adenovirus, HPV-16, EBV, fungi, and candida in the pathogenesis of periodontitis, pericoronitis, and periapical infection. For this purpose, we utilized the quantitative PCR for pathogen detection in saliva, gingival, and lesions samples of involved subjects. Results: Some of these pathogens appeared to have an association with the investigated dental pathologies, while others showed no contribution to the pathogenesis of these lesions. Further investigation is required in order to identify the subtype of the involved pathogens in these tooth related oral pathology. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=periodontitis" title="periodontitis">periodontitis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pericoronitis" title=" pericoronitis"> pericoronitis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dental%20abscess" title=" dental abscess"> dental abscess</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PCR" title=" PCR"> PCR</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microbiology" title=" microbiology"> microbiology</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/149650/the-involvement-of-viruses-and-fungi-in-the-pathogenesis-of-dental-infections" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/149650.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">99</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">45</span> A Low-Cost Air Quality Monitoring Internet of Things Platform</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christos%20Spandonidis">Christos Spandonidis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Stefanos%20Tsantilas"> Stefanos Tsantilas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elias%20Sedikos"> Elias Sedikos</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nektarios%20Galiatsatos"> Nektarios Galiatsatos</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fotios%20Giannopoulos"> Fotios Giannopoulos</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Panagiotis%20Papadopoulos"> Panagiotis Papadopoulos</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nikolaos%20Demagos"> Nikolaos Demagos</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dimitrios%20Reppas"> Dimitrios Reppas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christos%20Giordamlis"> Christos Giordamlis</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In the present paper, a low cost, compact and modular Internet of Things (IoT) platform for air quality monitoring in urban areas is presented. This integrated platform acts as part of a greater air pollution data collecting wireless network that is able to monitor the air quality in various regions and neighborhoods of an urban area, by providing sensor measurements at a high rate that reaches up to one sample per second. It is therefore suitable for Big Data analysis applications such as air quality forecasts, weather forecasts and traffic prediction. The first real world test for the developed platform took place in Thessaloniki, Greece, where 16 devices were installed in various buildings in the city. This immigrant population is particularly interesting because social work did not exist as a profession practiced in the USSR and hence most FSU immigrants arrive in Israel without a basic knowledge of the essence of social work, the services it provides and the logic behind its treatment methods. The sample of 37 items was built through a Google search of the Russian online newspapers and portals originated in Israel by using keywords such as “social worker,” “social work services” and the like. All items were analyzed by using qualitative content analysis. Principal analytical categories used for the analysis were: Assessment of social work services (negative, positive, neutral); social workers’ professionalism and effectiveness; goals and motives underlying their activity; cross-cultural contact with immigrants and methods used in working with immigrants. On this basis, four dominant images used to portray Israeli social work services and social workers were identified: Lack of professionalism, cultural gaps between FSU immigrants and Israeli social workers, repressive character of social work services and social workers’ involvement in corruption and crime. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=FSU%20immigrants" title="FSU immigrants">FSU immigrants</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=immigrant%20media" title=" immigrant media"> immigrant media</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=media%20images" title=" media images"> media images</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=social%20workers" title=" social workers"> social workers</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/33720/social-work-profession-in-a-mirror-of-the-russian-immigrant-media-in-israel" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/33720.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">357</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">43</span> Liquid-Liquid Extraction of Uranium(vi) from Aqueous Solution Using 1-Hydroxyalkylidene-1,1-Diphosphonic Acids </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20Bouhoun%20Ali">M. In this paper, we propose a tentative assignment for the shifts of those two ligands and their specific complexes with uranium(VI). We carried out the extraction of uranium(VI) by HHDPA and HDDPA from [carbon tetrachloride + 2-octanol (v/v: 90%/10%)] solutions. Various factors such as contact time, pH, organic/aqueous phase ratio and extractant concentration were considered. The optimum conditions obtained were: contact time= 20 min, organic/aqueous phase ratio = 1, pH value = 3.0 and extractant concentration = 0.3M. The extraction yields are more significant in the case of the HHDPA which is equipped with a hydrocarbon chain, longer than that of the HDDPA. Logarithmic plots of the uranium(VI) distribution ratio vs. pHeq and the extractant concentration showed that the ratio of extractant to extracted uranium(VI) (ligand/metal) is 2:1. The formula of the complex of uranium(VI) with the HHDPA and the DHDPA is UO2(H3L)2 (HHDPA and DHDPA are denoted as H4L). A spectroscopic analysis has showed that coordination of uranium(VI) takes place via oxygen atoms. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=liquid-liquid%20extraction" title="liquid-liquid extraction">liquid-liquid extraction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=uranium%28vi%29" title=" uranium(vi)"> uranium(vi)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=1-hydroxyalkylidene-1" title=" 1-hydroxyalkylidene-1"> 1-hydroxyalkylidene-1</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=1-diphosphonic%20acids" title="1-diphosphonic acids">1-diphosphonic acids</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hhdpa" title=" hhdpa"> hhdpa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hddpa" title=" hddpa"> hddpa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aqueous%20solution" title=" aqueous solution"> aqueous solution</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/37850/liquid-liquid-extraction-of-uraniumvi-from-aqueous-solution-using-1-hydroxyalkylidene-11-diphosphonic-acids" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/37850.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">268</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">42</span> TiO2/Clay Minerals (Palygorskite/Halloysite) Nanocomposite Coatings for Water Disinfection</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dionisios%20Panagiotaras">Dionisios Panagiotaras</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dimitrios%20Papoulis"> Dimitrios Papoulis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elias%20Stathatos"> Elias Stathatos</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Microfibrous palygorskite and tubular halloysite clay mineral combined with nanocrystalline TiO2 are incorporating in the preparation of nanocomposite films on glass substrates via sol-gel route at 450 °C. The synthesis is employing nonionic surfactant molecule as pore directing agent along with acetic acid-based sol-gel route without addition of water molecules. Drying and thermal treatment of composite films ensure elimination of organic material lead to the formation of TiO2 nanoparticles homogeneously distributed on the palygorskite or halloysite surfaces. Nanocomposite films without cracks of active anatase crystal phase on palygorskite and halloysite surfaces are characterized by microscopy techniques, UV-Vis spectroscopy, and porosimetry methods in order to examine their structural properties. The composite palygorskite-TiO2 and halloysite-TiO2 films with variable quantities of palygorskite and halloysite were tested as photocatalysts in the photo-oxidation of Basic Blue 41 azo dye in water. These nanocomposite films proved to be most promising photocatalysts and highly effective to dye’s decoloration in spite of small amount of palygorskite -TiO2 or halloysite- TiO2 catalyst immobilized onto glass substrates mainly due to the high surface area and uniform distribution of TiO2 on clay minerals avoiding aggregation. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=halloysite" title="halloysite">halloysite</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=palygorskite" title=" palygorskite"> palygorskite</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=photocatalysis" title=" photocatalysis"> photocatalysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=titanium%20dioxide" title=" titanium dioxide"> titanium dioxide</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/6861/tio2clay-minerals-palygorskitehalloysite-nanocomposite-coatings-for-water-disinfection" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/6861.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">315</span> </span> </div> </div> <ul class="pagination"> <li class="page-item disabled"><span class="page-link">&lsaquo;</span></li> <li class="page-item active"><span class="page-link">1</span></li> <li class="page-item"><a class="page-link" href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elias%20K.%20Stefanakos&amp;page=2">2</a></li> <li class="page-item"><a class="page-link" href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elias%20K.%20Stefanakos&amp;page=3">3</a></li> <li class="page-item"><a class="page-link" href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elias%20K.%20Stefanakos&amp;page=2" rel="next">&rsaquo;</a></li> </ul> </div> </main> <footer> <div id="infolinks" class="pt-3 pb-2"> <div class="container"> <div style="background-color:#f5f5f5;" class="p-3"> <div class="row"> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> About <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support">About Us</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support#legal-information">Legal</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/WASET-16th-foundational-anniversary.pdf">WASET celebrates its 16th foundational anniversary</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Account <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile">My Account</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Explore <li><a href="https://waset.org/disciplines">Disciplines</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/conferences">Conferences</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/conference-programs">Conference Program</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/committees">Committees</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org">Publications</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Research <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts">Abstracts</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org">Periodicals</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org/archive">Archive</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Open Science <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Science-Philosophy.pdf">Open Science Philosophy</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Science-Award.pdf">Open Science Award</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Society-Open-Science-and-Open-Innovation.pdf">Open Innovation</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Postdoctoral-Fellowship-Award.pdf">Postdoctoral Fellowship Award</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Scholarly-Research-Review.pdf">Scholarly Research Review</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Support <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support">Support</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile/messages/create">Contact Us</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile/messages/create">Report Abuse</a></li> </ul> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="container text-center"> <hr style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:.3rem;"> <a href="https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/" target="_blank" class="text-muted small">Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License</a> <div id="copy" class="mt-2">&copy;
