And from there they sailed away unto Cyprus. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-5.htm#literal"><b>5</b></a></span>And having come unto Salamis, they preached the word of god in the synagogues of the Jews. They had also John as an assistant (hypereten, under-rower, a crewman on a boat, a subordinate officer/servant). <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-6.htm#literal"><b>6</b></a></span>And having passed through the whole island as far as Paphos, they found a man- a certain magician, a Jewish false prophet- whose name was Bar-Jesus (means son of Jesus/Joshua), <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-7.htm#literal"><b>7</b></a></span>Who was with the proconsul (latin-proconsule) Sergius Paulus, an intelligent (greek-syneto, personal comprehension, to understand by synthesizing, latin-prudente) man. He having called to him Barnabas and Saul, desired (inquired, sought upon) to hear the word of God. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-8.htm#literal"><b>8</b></a></span>However Elymas the magician- for thus is the interpretation (translation) of his name- opposed them, seeking to turn away the proconsul from the faith. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-9.htm#literal"><b>9</b></a></span>And Saul, who is also Paul, having been filled with the Holy Spirit, having looked fixedly on (into) him, <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-10.htm#literal"><b>10</b></a></span>Said, O full of all deceit and all mischief (fraud, craft, villainy, criminality, latin-fallacia-fallacy), son of the devil, enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting (latin-subvertere like subverting) the straight ways of the Lord? <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-11.htm#literal"><b>11</b></a></span>And now behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you and you will be blind, not seeing the sun during a season. And instantly a mist (latin-caligo-fog root is thick) and a darkness fell upon him and he went about seeking someone to lead him by the hand. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-12.htm#literal"><b>12</b></a></span>Then the proconsul having seen that having happened, believed, being thunderstruck (struck out of one&#8217;s senses, astounded, dumbfounded) at (upon) the teaching of the Lord.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-13.htm#literal"><b>13</b></a></span>Now having sailed away from Paphos with those around him, Paul came unto Perga of Pamphylia. And John having departed away from them, returned unto Jerusalem. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-14.htm#literal"><b>14</b></a></span>And they, having passed through from Perga, came unto Antioch of Pisidia, and having gone into the synagogue on the day of the Sabbath, they sat down. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-15.htm#literal"><b>15</b></a></span>And after the reading of the law and the prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying, Men, brothers, if there is any among you a word of entreaty to the people, speak. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-16.htm#literal"><b>16</b></a></span>And Paul having risen up and waving (making a sign) the hand, said, Men, Israelites, and those fearing God, listen. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-17.htm#literal"><b>17</b></a></span>The God of this people Israel elected (chose) our fathers and exalted the people in the sojourn in the land of Egypt, and with an uplifted arm brought them out of it, <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-18.htm#literal"><b>18</b></a></span>And about the time of forty years, He endured their ways in the wilderness, <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-19.htm#literal"><b>19</b></a></span>And having destroyed the seven ethnicities in the land of Canaan, He gave their land as an inheritance- About four hundred and fifty years. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-20.htm#literal"><b>20</b></a></span>And after these things, He gave them judges until Samuel the prophet. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-21.htm#literal"><b>21</b></a></span>Then after that they asked for a king and God gave to them, Saul, son of Kish, a man from out of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-22.htm#literal"><b>22</b></a></span>And having removed him, He raised up David into a king to them, to whom also He said having carried witness, I have found David the [son] of Jess, a man according to My heart, who will do all My will. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-23.htm#literal"><b>23</b></a></span>Of this man&#8217;s seed according to promise, God raised up to Israel a Savior, Jesus, <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-24.htm#literal"><b>24</b></a></span>Before the presence (face) of His coming, John preached a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-25.htm#literal"><b>25</b></a></span>And while John was fulfilling his course (race, running, career), he said, Whom do you suspect me to be? I am not [He], but rather, Behold, He comes after me, of whom I am not worthy to untie a sandal of His feet.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-26.htm#literal"><b>26</b></a></span>Men, brothers, sons of the family of Abraham, and those among you fearing God, the message (word) of this salvation has been sent to us. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-27.htm#literal"><b>27</b></a></span>For those residing in Jerusalem and their rulers not having known Him nor the voices of the prophets who are being read every Sabbath, they fulfilled them by having condemned Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-28.htm#literal"><b>28</b></a></span>And having not found any cause for death, they begged Pilate to kill Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-29.htm#literal"><b>29</b></a></span>And when they had fulfilled all things having been written concerning Him and having taken Him down from the tree, they placed Him into a tomb. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-30.htm#literal"><b>30</b></a></span>However God raised Him from out of the dead, <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-31.htm#literal"><b>31</b></a></span>Who appeared for (upon) many days to those having come up with Him away from Galilee unto Jerusalem, who are now His witnesses to the people. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-32.htm#literal"><b>32</b></a></span>And we preach the gospel to you, the promise having been made to the fathers, <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-33.htm#literal"><b>33</b></a></span>That God has fulfilled this to us their children having raised up Jesus; as also in the second Psalm it has been written, You are My Son, today I have begotten You. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-34.htm#literal"><b>34</b></a></span>And that He raised Him from out of the dead, no more being about to return unto decay, thus He spoke: I will give to you the holy and sure [blessings] of David. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-35.htm#literal"><b>35</b></a></span>Therefore also in another [Psalm] He says, You will not allow You Holy One to see decay. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-36.htm#literal"><b>36</b></a></span>For indeed David having served his own generation by the resolved plan of God, fell asleep and was added to his fathers and saw decay. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-37.htm#literal"><b>37</b></a></span>However the One God raised up did not see decay. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-38.htm#literal"><b>38</b></a></span>Therefore be it known to you, men, brothers, that through this One, the remission of sins is preached to you, <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-39.htm#literal"><b>39</b></a></span>And from all things from which you were not able to be justified in the law of Moses, in Him everyone believing is justified (judicially approved). <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-40.htm#literal"><b>40</b></a></span>See then lest that having been said in the prophets might come upon you:<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-41.htm#literal"><b>41</b></a></span>Behold, despisers, and wonder and perish; because I am working a work in your days, a work that you would never believe, even if one should tell it in detail (narrate at length) to you.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-42.htm#literal"><b>42</b></a></span>And having departed, they entreated that these words to be spoken to them on (into) the next Sabbath. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-43.htm#literal"><b>43</b></a></span>Now when the synagogue had dismissed (released, dispersed, broken up, latin-dimissa-dismissed), many of the Jews and the worshipping (revering, venerating) proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.<p> <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-44.htm#literal"><b>44</b></a></span>And on the coming Sabbath, almost all the city was gathered together to hear the word of the Lord. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-45.htm#literal"><b>45</b></a></span>Now the Jews having seen the multitudes were filled with envy (rivalry, jealousy) and contradicted (speak against) the things spoken by Paul, blaspheming. <span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/acts/13-46.htm#literal"><b>46</b></a></span>Now Paul and Barnabas having spoken boldly (freely) said, It was necessary (essential) that the word of God first be spoken to you;
