membranes are primarily characterized by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectrometer (EDS) for a detailed investigation of foulants; however, this has severe limitations on several accounts. Apart from inaccuracy in spectral properties and inevitable interferences and interactions between sample and instrument, misidentification of elements due to overlapping peaks is a significant drawback of EDS. This paper discusses this limitation by analyzing fouled polyamide RO membranes derived from community RO plants of Rajasthan treating brackish water via a combination of results obtained from EDS and Raman spectroscopy and cross corroborating with ICP-MS analysis of water samples prepared by dissolving the deposited salts. The anomalous behavior of different morphic forms of CaCO₃ in aqueous suspensions tends to introduce false reporting of the presence of certain heavy metals and rare earth metals in the scales of the fouled RO membranes used for treating brackish groundwater when analyzed using the commonly adopted techniques like SEM-EDS or Raman spectrometry. Peaks of CaCO₃ reflected in EDS spectra of the membrane were found to be misinterpreted as Scandium due to the automatic assignment of elements by the software. Similarly, the morphic forms merged with the dominant peak of CaCO₃ might be reflected as a single peak of Molybdenum in the Raman spectrum. A subsequent ICP-MS analysis of the deposited salts showed that both Sc and Mo were below detectable levels. It is always essential to cross-confirm the results through a destructive analysis method to avoid such interferences. It is further recommended to study different morphic forms of CaCO₃ scales, as they exhibit anomalous properties like reverse solubility with temperature and hence altered precipitation tendencies, for an accurate description of the composition of scales, which is vital for the smooth functioning of RO systems. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=reverse%20osmosis" title="reverse osmosis">reverse osmosis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=foulant%20analysis" title=" foulant analysis"> foulant analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=groundwater" title=" groundwater"> groundwater</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=EDS" title=" EDS"> EDS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=artifacts" title=" artifacts"> artifacts</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/167736/identifying-artifacts-in-sem-eds-of-fouled-ro-membranes-used-for-the-treatment-of-brackish-groundwater-through-raman-and-icp-ms-analysis" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/167736.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">105</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">423</span> Optimal Selection of Replenishment Policies Using Distance Based Approach</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amit%20Gupta">Amit Gupta</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Deepak%20Juneja"> Deepak Juneja</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sorabh%20Gupta"> Sorabh Gupta</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper presents a model based on distance based approach (DBA) method employed for evaluation, selection, and ranking of replenishment policies for a single location inventory, which hitherto not developed in the literature. The behavior of coupled shear walls is mainly governed by the coupling beams. The coupling beams are designed for ductile inelastic behavior in order to dissipate energy. The base of the shear walls may be designed for elastic or ductile inelastic behavior. The amount of energy dissipation depends on the yield moment capacity and plastic rotation capacity of the coupling beams. In this paper, an analytical model of coupling beam was developed to calculate the rotations and moment capacities of coupling beam with conventional reinforcement. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=design%20studies" title="design studies">design studies</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=computational%20model%28s%29" title=" computational model(s)"> computational model(s)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=case%20study%2Fstudies" title=" case study/studies"> case study/studies</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=modelling" title=" modelling"> modelling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=coupling%20beam" title=" coupling beam"> coupling beam</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3310/investigation-on-the-behavior-of-conventional-reinforced-coupling-beams" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3310.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">476</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">421</span> A Geographical Study of Vindhyanchal in Mirzapur City, U.P. The city in east is a commercial center for cotton, metal ware and carpets. Among the Hindu population, it is believed that the primordial creative forces of the GOD and the power of the GODDESS make respective triangles which superimpose opposite to each other as hexagram at a point or node (Bindu (point) +Vasini (located) or Vindhyavasini, located in a point/node). Mirzapur city has served as a natural connecting point between north and south India. Before independence of India from Britain in 1947, it was a flourishing commercial center. Post-independence, the negligence of planning authorities and nexus of bureaucrats and politicians started affecting its development. In the meantime, emergence of new industrial cities as Kanpur, Agra, Moradabad, etc., nearer to the capital city of Delhi, posed serious challenges to the development of this small city as many commercial and business activities along with the skilled workforce started shifting to these new cities or to the relatively bigger neighboring cities of Varanasi in east and Allahabad in west. In the present paper, the significant causes, issues and challenges in development of Vindhyanchal is discussed with geographical perspective. An attempt has been made to find out the ways to restore the lost glory of the city as a center of pilgrimage, tourism, and commerce. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cultural%20node" title="cultural node">cultural node</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pilgrimage" title=" pilgrimage"> pilgrimage</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sacred" title=" sacred"> sacred</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vindhyan%20triangle" title=" Vindhyan triangle"> Vindhyan triangle</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ommercial%20centre" title=" ommercial centre"> ommercial centre</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/21643/a-geographical-study-of-vindhyanchal-in-mirzapur-city-up-india" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/21643.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">441</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">420</span> A Comparative Study of Standard, Casted, and Riveted Eye Design of a Mono Leaf Spring Using CAE Tools</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gian%20Bhushan">Gian Bhushan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vinkel%20Arora"> Vinkel Arora</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20L.%20Aggarwal"> M. In the second video participant was required to imagine a landmark at each turn and associate the turn with it. In both the task the participant was asked to recall the sequence of turns as it appeared in the video. Results showed that performance in the first condition i.e. without use of landmarks was better than imaginary landmark condition. The difference, however, became significant when the participant were tested again about 30 minutes later though performance was still better in no-landmark condition. The finding is surprising given the past research in memory and is explained in terms of cognitive factors such as mental workload. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wayfinding" title="wayfinding">wayfinding</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=landmarks" title=" landmarks"> landmarks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=unfamiliar%20environment" title=" unfamiliar environment"> unfamiliar environment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cognitive%20psychology" title=" cognitive psychology"> cognitive psychology</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25660/remembering-route-in-an-unfamiliar-homogenous-environment" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25660.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">476</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">417</span> Beneficial Effect of Lupeol in Diabetes Induced Oxidative Damage</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rajnish%20Gupta">Rajnish Gupta</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=R.%20S.%20Gupta"> R. Rats were divided into following groups mainly: control, diabetic, normal group as well as diabetic treated with Lupeol at 25 and 35 mg/kg b.wt./day for 21 days, diabetic group treated with glibenclamide. Tissue (pancreas, kidney and liver) as well as serum biochemical parameters were analysed for any abnormal behavior. Lupeol administration reduced diabetes onset with significant improvement in serum insulin level also strengthened by increase in β-Cell counts. A significant decrease was observed in serum glucose level. Furthermore, Lupeol treatment increased the antioxidant enzymes, glycolytic enzymes and also protein levels with a decrease in the level of thiobarbituric acid-reactive oxygen species and gluconeogenic enzymes. Present study proves that Lupeol administration significantly reinstated serum and tissue biochemical parameters and thus strengthening its antidiabetic potential. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=oxidative%20stress" title="oxidative stress">oxidative stress</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pterostilbene" title=" pterostilbene"> pterostilbene</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thiobarbituric%20acid" title=" thiobarbituric acid"> thiobarbituric acid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=reactive%20oxygen%20species" title=" reactive oxygen species"> reactive oxygen species</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/14774/beneficial-effect-of-lupeol-in-diabetes-induced-oxidative-damage" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/14774.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">470</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">416</span> Clinical and Molecular Characterization of 120 Families with Sporadic Juvenile Onset Open Angle Glaucoma</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bindu%20I.%20Somarajan">Bindu I. However, sporadic forms of JOAG been seen to be more common in some populations. Most pathological homozygous mutations in the CYP1B1 gene associated with JOAG have been seen among sporadic cases. Given the higher prevalence of sporadic JOAG cases in our population, we aimed to look for common mutations E229K and R368H, the two most common variants in the CYP1B1 gene associated with glaucoma. Objective: To determine the frequency and evaluate genotype phenotype correlation of CYP1B1 E229K and R368H mutations in a cohort of 120 sporadic Juvenile open angle glaucoma patients. Methods: Unrelated JOAG patients whose first degree relatives had been examined and found to be unaffected were included in the study. The patients and their parents were screened for E229K and R368H mutations. The phenotypic characteristics were compared between probands with and with out these mutations by SPSS v16. Results: Out of 120 JOAG patients included in the study, the E229K mutation was seen in 9 probands (7.5%) and R368H in 7 (5.8%). The average age of onset of the disease (p=0.3) and the highest untreated IOP (p=0.4) among those carrying mutations was not significantly different from those who did not have these mutations. The proportion of probands with angle dysgenesis among those with E229K and R368H mutations was 70% (11 out of 16) in comparison to 65% (67 out of 104) of those who did not harbour these mutations (p=0.56). Similarly the probands with moderate to high myopia among those with E229K and R368H mutations was 20% (3 out of 16) in comparison to 18% (18 out of 104) of those who did not harbour these mutations(p=0.59). Conclusion: The frequency of E229K and R368H mutations of the CYP1B1 gene is low even among sporadic JOAG patients. Moreover there is no clinical correlation between the presence of these mutations and disease severity <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CYP1B1" title="CYP1B1">CYP1B1</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gene" title=" gene"> gene</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=IOP" title=" IOP"> IOP</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=JOAG" title=" JOAG"> JOAG</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mutation" title=" mutation"> mutation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/77908/clinical-and-molecular-characterization-of-120-families-with-sporadic-juvenile-onset-open-angle-glaucoma" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/77908.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">333</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">415</span> Synchronous Carcinoma Cervix with Vulvar Carcinoma in situ: A Case Report</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bhushan%20Bhalgat">Bhushan Bhalgat</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Suresh%20Singh"> Suresh Singh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Phanindra%20Swain"> Phanindra Swain</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kamal%20Kishore%20Lakhera"> Kamal Kishore Lakhera</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Carcinoma of cervix and carcinoma of vulva have been associated with common predisposing factors like human papillomavirus and smoking. Skip metastases and metachronous appearance of both these tumours have been reported. There is no case report showing synchronous appearance of these tumours in English literature. We herewith report a case report of a middle aged female patient who presented with per vaginal bleeding, and on examination, a cervical mass was palpable. Also, a proliferative growth was seen over her left vulva. Biopsy of both lesions came out to be squamous cell carcinoma and carcinoma in situ, respectively. A radical hysterectomy and bilateral pelvic and paraaortic lymph nodal dissection was performed along with left simple vulvectomy. This thereby underscores that any lesion over vulva appearing during or after treatment of cervical carcinoma should be biopsied to rule out vulvar carcinoma. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=carcinoma%20of%20cervix" title="carcinoma of cervix">carcinoma of cervix</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=carcinoma%20of%20vulva" title=" carcinoma of vulva"> carcinoma of vulva</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=synchronous%20tumours" title=" synchronous tumours"> synchronous tumours</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gynecological%20oncology" title=" gynecological oncology"> gynecological oncology</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/125647/synchronous-carcinoma-cervix-with-vulvar-carcinoma-in-situ-a-case-report" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/125647.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">169</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">414</span> Analytical Solution of Non–Autonomous Discrete Non-Linear Schrodinger Equation With Saturable Non-Linearity</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mishu%20Gupta">Mishu Gupta</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rama%20Gupta"> Rama Gupta</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> It has been elucidated here that non- autonomous discrete non-linear Schrödinger equation is associated with saturable non-linearity through photo-refractive media. We have investigated the localized solution of non-autonomous saturable discrete non-linear Schrödinger equations. The similarity transformation has been involved in converting non-autonomous saturable discrete non-linear Schrödinger equation to constant-coefficient saturable discrete non-linear Schrödinger equation (SDNLSE), whose exact solution is already known. By back substitution, the solution of the non-autonomous version has been obtained. We have analysed our solution for the hyperbolic and periodic form of gain/loss term, and interesting results have been obtained. The most important characteristic role is that it helps us to analyse the propagation of electromagnetic waves in glass fibres and other optical wave mediums. Also, the usage of SDNLSE has been seen in tight binding for Bose-Einstein condensates in optical mediums. Even the solutions are interrelated, and its properties are prominently used in various physical aspects like optical waveguides, Bose-Einstein (B-E) condensates in optical mediums, Non-linear optics in photonic crystals, and non-linear kerr–type non-linearity effect and photo refracting medium. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=B-E-Bose-Einstein" title="B-E-Bose-Einstein">B-E-Bose-Einstein</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DNLSE-Discrete%20non%20linear%20schrodinger%20equation" title=" DNLSE-Discrete non linear schrodinger equation"> DNLSE-Discrete non linear schrodinger equation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=NLSE-non%20linear%20schrodinger%20equation" title=" NLSE-non linear schrodinger equation"> NLSE-non linear schrodinger equation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SDNLSE%20-%20saturable%20discrete%20non%20linear%20Schrodinger%20equation" title=" SDNLSE - saturable discrete non linear Schrodinger equation"> SDNLSE - saturable discrete non linear Schrodinger equation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/121074/analytical-solution-of-non-autonomous-discrete-non-linear-schrodinger-equation-with-saturable-non-linearity" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/121074.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">155</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">413</span> Theoretical and Experimental Analysis of Hard Material Machining</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rajaram%20Kr.%20Gupta">Rajaram Kr. The primary challenge in machining these materials is selection of cutting tool inserts which facilitates an extended tool life and high-precision machining of the component. These materials are widely for making precision parts for the aerospace industry. Nickel-based alloys are typically used in extreme environment applications where a combination of strength, corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance material characteristics are required. The present paper reports the theoretical and experimental investigations carried out to understand the influence of machining parameters on the response parameters. Considering the basic machining parameters (speed, feed and depth of cut) a study has been conducted to observe their influence on material removal rate, surface roughness, cutting forces and corresponding tool wear. Experiments are designed and conducted with the help of Central Composite Rotatable Design technique. The results reveals that for a given range of process parameters, material removal rate is favorable for higher depths of cut and low feed rate for cutting forces. Low feed rates and high values of rotational speeds are suitable for better finish and higher tool life. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=speed" title="speed">speed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=feed" title=" feed"> feed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=depth%20of%20cut" title=" depth of cut"> depth of cut</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=roughness" title=" roughness"> roughness</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cutting%20force" title=" cutting force"> cutting force</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flank%20wear" title=" flank wear"> flank wear</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/1610/theoretical-and-experimental-analysis-of-hard-material-machining" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/1610.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">285</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">412</span> Host-Assisted Delivery of a Model Drug to Genomic DNA: Key Information From Ultrafast Spectroscopy and in Silico Study</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ria%20Ghosh">Ria Ghosh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Soumendra%20Singh"> Soumendra Singh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dipanjan%20Mukherjee"> Dipanjan Mukherjee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Susmita%20Mondal"> Susmita Mondal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Monojit%20Das"> Monojit Das</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Uttam%20Pal"> Uttam Pal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aniruddha%20Adhikari"> Aniruddha Adhikari</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aman%20Bhushan"> Aman Bhushan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Surajit%20Bose"> Surajit Bose</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Siddharth%20Sankar%20Bhattacharyya"> Siddharth Sankar Bhattacharyya</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Debasish%20Pal"> Debasish Pal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tanusri%20Saha-Dasgupta"> Tanusri Saha-Dasgupta</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maitree%20Bhattacharyya"> Maitree Bhattacharyya</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Debasis%20Bhattacharyya"> Debasis Bhattacharyya</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Asim%20Kumar%20Mallick"> Asim Kumar Mallick</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ranjan%20Das"> Ranjan Das</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Samir%20Kumar%20Pal"> Samir Kumar Pal</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Drug delivery to a target without adverse effects is one of the major criteria for clinical use. Herein, we have made an attempt to explore the delivery efficacy of SDS surfactant in a monomer and micellar stage during the delivery of the model drug, Toluidine Blue (TB) from the micellar cavity to DNA. Molecular recognition of pre-micellar SDS encapsulated TB with DNA occurs at a rate constant of k1 ~652 s 1. However, no significant release of encapsulated TB at micellar concentration was observed within the experimental time frame. This originated from the higher binding affinity of TB towards the nano-cavity of SDS at micellar concentration which does not allow the delivery of TB from the nano-cavity of SDS micelles to DNA. Thus, molecular recognition controls the extent of DNA recognition by TB which in turn modulates the rate of delivery of TB from SDS in a concentration-dependent manner. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DNA" title="DNA">DNA</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=drug%20delivery" title=" drug delivery"> drug delivery</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=micelle" title=" micelle"> micelle</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pre-micelle" title=" pre-micelle"> pre-micelle</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SDS" title=" SDS"> SDS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=toluidine%20blue" title=" toluidine blue"> toluidine blue</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/154090/host-assisted-delivery-of-a-model-drug-to-genomic-dna-key-information-from-ultrafast-spectroscopy-and-in-silico-study" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/154090.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">113</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">411</span> Users and Non-Users of Social Media: An Exploratory Study of Rural Women in Eastern Uttar Pradesh</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Neha%20Bhushan">Neha Bhushan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> For the purpose of this study a village of district Azamgarh has been selected which is a part of the most populous and backward state of the country, Uttar Pradesh. Two videos developed using free ware Trimble Sketchup© each having nine identical turns (3 right, 3 left, 3 straight) with no distinguishing feature at any turn. Thirt-two male post-graduate students of IIT Kanpur participated in the study. The experiment was conducted in three phases. In the first phase participant generated a list of personally known items to be used as landmarks. In the second phase participant saw the first video and was required to remember the sequence of turns. In the second video participant was required to imagine a landmark from the list generated in the first phase at each turn and associate the turn with it. In both the task the participant was asked to recall the sequence of turns as it appeared in the video. In the third phase, which was 20 minutes after the second phase, participants again recalled the sequence of turns. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wayfinding" title="Wayfinding">Wayfinding</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Landmark" title=" Landmark"> Landmark</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Homogenous%20Environment" title=" Homogenous Environment"> Homogenous Environment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Memory" title=" Memory"> Memory</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25667/wayfinding-strategies-in-an-unfamiliar-homogenous-environment" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25667.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">457</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">409</span> Influence of Ball Milling Time on Mechanical Properties of Porous Ti-20Nb-5Ag Alloy </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20J.%20Shivaram">M. Weakly Interacting Massive Particles, or WIMPs, have been contested to be one of the strongest candidates for dark matter due to their promising theoretical properties. However, various endeavors to detect these elusive particles have failed. This paper explores the various particles which may be WIMPs and the detection techniques being employed to detect WIMPs (such as underground detectors, LHC experiments, and so on). There is a special focus on the reasons for the lack of detection of WIMPs so far, and the possibility of limits in detection being a reason for the lack of physical evidence of the existence of WIMPs. This paper also explores possible inconsistencies within the WIMP particle theory as a reason for the lack of physical detection. There is a brief review on the possible solutions and alternatives to these inconsistencies. Additionally, this paper also reviews the supersymmetry theory and the possibility of the supersymmetric neutralino (A possible WIMP particle) being detectable. Lastly, a review on alternate candidates for dark matter such as axions and MACHOs has been conducted. The explorative study in this paper is conducted through a series of literature reviews. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dark%20matter" title="dark matter">dark matter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=particle%20detection" title=" particle detection"> particle detection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=supersymmetry" title=" supersymmetry"> supersymmetry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=weakly%20interacting%20massive%20particles" title=" weakly interacting massive particles"> weakly interacting massive particles</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/132079/feasibility-of-weakly-interacting-massive-particles-as-dark-matter-candidates-exploratory-study-on-the-possible-reasons-for-lack-of-wimp-detection" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/132079.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">142</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">407</span> Clinical and Radiological Features of Adenomyosis and Its Histopathological Correlation </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Surabhi%20Agrawal%20Kohli">Surabhi Agrawal Kohli</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sunita%20Gupta"> Sunita Gupta</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Esha%20Khanuja"> Esha Khanuja</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Parul%20Garg"> Parul Garg</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=P.%20Gupta"> P. Uterine enlargement, dysmenorrhoea, and menorrhagia are regarded as the cardinal clinical symptoms of adenomyosis. Classically it was thought, compared with ultrasonography, when adenomyosis is suspected, MRI enables more accurate diagnosis of the disease. Materials and Methods: 172 subjects were enrolled after an informed consent that had complaints of HMB, dyspareunia, dysmenorrhea, and chronic pelvic pain. Detailed history of the enrolled subjects was taken, followed by a clinical examination. These patients were then subjected to TVS where myometrial echo texture, presence of myometrial cysts, blurring of endomyometrial junction was noted. MRI was followed which noted the presence of junctional zone thickness and myometrial cysts. After hysterectomy, histopathological diagnosis was obtained. Results: 78 participants were analysed. The mean age was 44.2 years. 43.5% had parity of 4 or more. heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) was present in 97.8% and dysmenorrhea in 93.48 % of HPE positive patient. Transvaginal sonography (TVS) and MRI had a sensitivity of 89.13% and 80.43%, specificity of 90.62% and 84.37%, positive likelihood ratio of 9.51 and 5.15, negative likelihood ratio of 0.12 and 0.23, positive predictive value of 93.18% and 88.1%, negative predictive value of 85.29% and 75% and a diagnostic accuracy of 89.74% and 82.5%. Comparison of sensitivity (p=0.289) and specificity (p=0.625) showed no statistically significant difference between TVS and MRI. Conclusion: Prevalence of 30.23%. HMB with dysmenorrhoea and chronic pelvic pain helps in diagnosis. TVS (Endomyometrial junction blurring) is both sensitive and specific in diagnosing adenomyosis without need for additional diagnostic tool. Both TVS and MRI are equally efficient, however because of certain additional advantages of TVS over MRI, it may be used as the first choice of imaging. MRI may be used additionally in difficult cases as well as in patients with existing co-pathologies. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=adenomyosis" title="adenomyosis">adenomyosis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heavy%20menstrual%20bleeding" title=" heavy menstrual bleeding"> heavy menstrual bleeding</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MRI" title=" MRI"> MRI</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=TVS" title=" TVS"> TVS</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/51885/clinical-and-radiological-features-of-adenomyosis-and-its-histopathological-correlation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/51885.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">496</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">406</span> ChaQra: A Cellular Unit of the Indian Quantum Network</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shashank%20Gupta">Shashank Gupta</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Iteash%20Agarwal"> Iteash Agarwal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vijayalaxmi%20Mogiligidda"> Vijayalaxmi Mogiligidda</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rajesh%20Kumar%20Krishnan"> Rajesh Kumar Krishnan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sruthi%20Chennuri"> Sruthi Chennuri</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Deepika%20Aggarwal"> Deepika Aggarwal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anwesha%20Hoodati"> Anwesha Hoodati</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sheroy%20Cooper"> Sheroy Cooper</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ranjan"> Ranjan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad%20Bilal%20Sheik"> Mohammad Bilal Sheik</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bhavya%20K.%20M."> Bhavya K. It is great to push the boundaries on these fronts, but these isolated approaches are neither scalable nor cost-effective due to the requirements of specialised hardware and different infrastructure. Current and future QKD network requires addressing different sets of challenges apart from distance, key rate, and quantum security. In this regard, we present ChaQra -a sub-quantum network with core features as 1) Crypto agility (integration in the already deployed telecommunication fibres), 2) Software defined networking (SDN paradigm for routing different nodes), 3) reliability (addressing denial-of-service with hybrid quantum safe cryptography), 4) upgradability (modules upgradation based on scientific and technological advancements), 5) Beyond QKD (using QKD network for distributed computing, multi-party computation etc). Our results demonstrate a clear path to create and accelerate quantum secure Indian subcontinent under the national quantum mission. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quantum%20network" title="quantum network">quantum network</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quantum%20key%20distribution" title=" quantum key distribution"> quantum key distribution</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quantum%20security" title=" quantum security"> quantum security</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quantum%20information" title=" quantum information"> quantum information</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/186156/chaqra-a-cellular-unit-of-the-indian-quantum-network" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/186156.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">56</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">405</span> Effect of Different Planting Times and Mulching Materials on Seed Quality and Yield of China Aster Cultivars</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=A.%20A.%20Bajad">A. Aims: The study analyses clinical outcomes in patients with intra-articular distal humerus fractures (AO type 13 C3 excluded) treated using a different method of fixation ( LCPMS). Subject and Methods: A study was performed, and the author's personal experiences were reported. Thirty patients were treated using an intercondylar screw with lateral column plating and percutaneous medial column screw fixation. Detailed analysis was done for functional outcomes (average arc of motion, union rate, and complications). Statistical Analysis Used: SPSS software version 22.0 was used for statistical analysis. Results: In our study, at the end of 6 months, Overall good to excellent results were achieved in 28 patients out of 30 after analysis on the basis of MEP score. The majority of patients regained full arc of motion, achieved fracture union without any major complications, and were able to perform almost all activities of daily living (which required good elbow joint movements and functions). Conclusion: We concluded that this novel method provides adequate stability and anatomical reconstruction with an early union rate observed at the end of 6 months. Excellent functional outcome was observed in almost all the patients because of less operating time and initiation of early physiotherapy, as most of the patients experienced mild nature of pain post-surgery. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=intra%20arricular%20distal%20humerus%20fracture" title="intra arricular distal humerus fracture">intra arricular distal humerus fracture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=percutaneous%20medial%20screw" title=" percutaneous medial screw"> percutaneous medial screw</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lateral%20column%20plate" title=" lateral column plate"> lateral column plate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=arc%20of%20motion" title=" arc of motion"> arc of motion</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/182202/comparative-study-in-treatment-of-distal-humerus-fracture-with-lateral-column-plate-percutaneous-medial-screw-and-intercondylar-screw" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/182202.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">60</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">403</span> Design and Analysis of Hybrid Morphing Smart Wing for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chetan%20Gupta">Chetan Gupta</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ramesh%20Gupta"> Ramesh Gupta</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Unmanned aerial vehicles, of all sizes, are prime targets of the wing morphing concept as their lightweight structures demand high aerodynamic stability while traversing unsteady atmospheric conditions. In this research study, a hybrid morphing technology is developed to aid the trailing edge of the aircraft wing to alter its camber as a monolithic element rather than functioning as conventional appendages like flaps. Kinematic tailoring, actuation techniques involving shape memory alloys (SMA), piezoelectrics – individually fall short of providing a simplistic solution to the conundrum of morphing aircraft wings. On the other hand, the feature of negligible hysteresis while actuating using compliant mechanisms has shown higher levels of applicability and deliverability in morphing wings of even large aircrafts. This research paper delves into designing a wing section model with a periodic, multi-stable compliant structure requiring lower orders of topological optimization. The design is sub-divided into three smaller domains with external hyperelastic connections to achieve deflections ranging from -15° to +15° at the trailing edge of the wing. To facilitate this functioning, a hybrid actuation system by combining the larger bandwidth feature of piezoelectric macro-fibre composites and relatively higher work densities of shape memory alloy wires are used. Finite element analysis is applied to optimize piezoelectric actuation of the internal compliant structure. A coupled fluid-surface interaction analysis is conducted on the wing section during morphing to study the development of the velocity boundary layer at low Reynold’s numbers of airflow. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=compliant%20mechanism" title="compliant mechanism">compliant mechanism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hybrid%20morphing" title=" hybrid morphing"> hybrid morphing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=piezoelectrics" title=" piezoelectrics"> piezoelectrics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shape%20memory%20alloys" title=" shape memory alloys"> shape memory alloys</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/59027/design-and-analysis-of-hybrid-morphing-smart-wing-for-unmanned-aerial-vehicles" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/59027.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">311</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">402</span> Glioblastoma: Prognostic Value of Clinical, Histopathological and Immunohistochemical (p53, EGFR, VEGF, MDM2, Ki67) Parameters</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sujata%20Chaturvedi">Sujata Chaturvedi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ishita%20Pant"> Ishita Pant</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Deepak%20Kumar%20Jha"> Deepak Kumar Jha</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vinod%20Kumar%20Singh%20Gautam"> Vinod Kumar Singh Gautam</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chandra%20Bhushan%20Tripathi"> Chandra Bhushan Tripathi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Objective: To describe clinical, histopathological and immunohistochemical profile of glioblastoma in patients and to correlate these findings with patient survival. Material and methods: 30 cases of histopathologically diagnosed glioblastomas were included in this study. These cases were analysed in detail for certain clinical and histopathological parameters. People right from school kids to elderly are hooked to drugs. This pattern of substance abuse is prevalent in both cities and villages alike. Excess of younger population in India has further aggravated the situation. It is feared that the benefits of India’s economic growth may well be negated by the rising substance abuse especially in this part of the country. It is quite evident that the pattern of substance abuse tends to change over time which is an impediment in the formulation of effective strategies to tackle this issue. Aim: Purpose of the study was to ascertain the change in the pattern of drug abuse for two consecutive years in the out patient department (OPD) population. Method: The study population comprised of all the patients reporting for deaddiction to the psychiatry outpatient department over a period of twelve months for two consecutive years. All the patients were evaluated by the International Classification of Diseases; 10 criteria for substance abuse/dependence. Results: A considerably high prevalence of substance abuse was present in the Indian population. In general, there was an increase in prevalence from first to the second year, especially among the female population. Increase in prevalence of substance abuse appeared to be more prominent among the younger age group of both the sexes. A significant increase in intravenous drug abuse was observed. Peer pressure and parental imitation were the major factors fueling substance abuse. Precipitation or fear of withdrawal symptoms was the major factor preventing abstinence. Substance abuse had a significant effect on the health and interpersonal relations of these patients. Summary/Conclusion: Drug abuse and addiction are on the rise throughout India. Changing cultural values, increasing economic stress and dwindling supportive bonds appear to be leading to initiation of substance abuse. Need of the hour is to formulate a comprehensive strategy to bring about an overall reduction in the use of drugs. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=deaddiction" title="deaddiction">deaddiction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=peer%20pressure" title=" peer pressure"> peer pressure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=parental%20imitation" title=" parental imitation"> parental imitation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=substance%20abuse%2Fdependance" title=" substance abuse/dependance"> substance abuse/dependance</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/83164/changing-pattern-of-drug-abuse-an-outpatient-department-based-study-from-india" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/83164.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">204</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">399</span> How Different Are We After All: A Cross-Cultural Study Using the International Affective Picture System</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Manish%20Kumar%20Asthana">Manish Kumar Asthana</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alicia%20Bundis"> Alicia Bundis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zahn%20Xu"> Zahn Xu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Braj%20Bhushan"> Braj Bhushan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Despite ample cross-cultural studies with emotional valence, it is unclear if the emotions are universal or particular. Previous studies have shown that the individualist culture favors high-valence emotions compared to low-valence emotions. In contrast, collectivist culture favors low-valence emotions compared to high-valence emotions. In this current study, Chinese, Mexicans, and Indians reported valence and semantic-contingency. In total, 120 healthy participants were selected by ethnicity and matched for age and education. Each participant was presented 45 non-chromatic pictures, which were converted from chromatic pictures selected from International Affective Picture Database (IAPS) belonging to five-categories, i.e. (i) less pleasant, (ii) high pleasant, (iii) less unpleasant (iv) high unpleasant (v) neutral. The valence scores assigned to neutral, less-unpleasant, and high-pleasant pictures differed significantly between Chinese, Indian, and Mexicans participants. Significant effects demonstrated from the two-way ANOVAs, confirmed main significant effects of valence (F(1,117) = 24.83, p =0.000) and valence x country (F(2,117) = 2.74, p = 0.035). Significant effects emerging from the one-way ANOVAs were followed up through Bonferroni’s test post-hoc comparisons (p < 0.01). This analysis showed significant effect of neutral (F(2,119) = 6.50, p =0.002), less-unpleasant (F(2,119) = 13.79, p =0.000), and high-unpleasant (F(2,119) = 5.99, p =0.003). There were no significant differences in valence scores for the less-pleasant and more-pleasant between participants from three countries. The IAPS norms require modification for their appropriate application in individualist and collectivist cultures. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cultural%20difference" title="cultural difference">cultural difference</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=affective%20processing" title=" affective processing"> affective processing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=valence" title=" valence"> valence</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-chromatic" title=" non-chromatic"> non-chromatic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=international%20affective%20picture%20system%20%28IAPS%29" title=" international affective picture system (IAPS)"> international affective picture system (IAPS)</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/120084/how-different-are-we-after-all-a-cross-cultural-study-using-the-international-affective-picture-system" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/120084.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">140</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">398</span> Effect of Jet Diameter on Surface Quenching at Different Spatial Locations</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=C.%20Agrawal">C. The lipase-producing microorganisms were screened using tributyrin agar plates. The selected microbe was optimized for maximum lipase production by subjecting to various carbon and nitrogen sources, incubation period and inoculum size. The selected strain was identified as Bacillus subtilis strain kakrayal_1 (BSK_1) using 16S rRNA sequence analysis. Effect of pH, temperature, metal ions, detergents and organic solvents were studied on lipase activity. Lipase was found to be stable over a pH range of 6.0 to 9.0 and exhibited maximum activity at pH 8. Lipolytic activity was highest at 37°C and the enzyme activity remained at 60°C for 24hrs, hence, established as thermo-tolerant. Production of lipase was significantly induced by vegetable oil and the best nitrogen source was found to be peptone. The isolated Bacillus lipase was stimulated by pre-treatment with Mn2+, Ca2+, K+, Zn2+, and Fe2+. Lipase was stable in detergents such as triton X 100, tween 20 and Tween 80. The 100% ethyl acetate enhanced lipase activity whereas, lipase activity were found to be stable in Hexane. The optimization resulted in 4 fold increase in lipase production. Bacillus lipases are ‘generally recognized as safe’ (GRAS) and are industrially interesting. The inducible alkaline, thermo-tolerant lipase exhibited the ability to be stable in detergents and organic solvents. This could be further researched as a potential biocatalyst for industrial applications such as biotransformation, detergent formulation, bioremediation and organic synthesis. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bacillus" title="bacillus">bacillus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lipase" title=" lipase"> lipase</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermotolerant" title=" thermotolerant"> thermotolerant</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=alkalophilic" title=" alkalophilic"> alkalophilic</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55619/isolation-characterization-and-optimization-of-alkalophilic-and-thermotolerant-lipase-from-bacillus-subtilis-strain" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55619.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">255</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">395</span> Human Gait Recognition Using Moment with Fuzzy</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jyoti%20Bharti">Jyoti Bharti</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Navneet%20Manjhi"> Navneet Manjhi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20K.Gupta"> M.
