but He will baptize<MG907> you <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>with the Holy<MG40> Spirit<MG4151>.” <p class="hdg">The Baptism of Jesus</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/1-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>In those<MG1565> days<MG2250> Jesus<MG2424> came<MG2064> from Nazareth<MG3478> in Galilee<MG1056> and was baptized<MG907> by John<MG2491> in the Jordan<MG2446>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/1-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>And immediately<MG2117> coming<MG305> up<MG305> out of the water<MG5204>, He saw<MG3708> the heavens<MG3772> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>opening<MG4977>, and the Spirit<MG4151>, like<MG5613> a dove<MG4058>, descending<MG2597> upon Him; and He was with the wild<MG2342> animals<MG2342>, and the angels<MG32a> were serving<MG1247> Him. <p class="hdg">Jesus Preaches in Galilee</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/1-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Now after<MG3326> John<MG2491> was <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>taken<MG3860> into<MG3860> custody<MG3860>, Jesus<MG2424> came<MG2064> into Galilee<MG1056>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>preaching<MG2784> the gospel<MG2098> of God<MG2316>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/1-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>and saying<MG3004>, “The time<MG2540> is fulfilled<MG4137>, and the kingdom<MG932> of God<MG2316> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>is<MG1448> at<MG1448> hand<MG1448>; repent<MG3340> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>believe<MG4100> in the gospel<MG2098>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/1-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>As He was going<MG3855> along<MG3855> the Sea<MG2281> of Galilee<MG1056>, He saw<MG3708> Simon<MG4613> and Andrew<MG406>, the brother<MG80> of Simon<MG4613>, casting<MG293a> a<MG293a> net<MG293a> in the sea<MG2281>; for they were fishermen<MG231>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/1-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And Jesus<MG2424> said<MG3004> to them, “Follow<MG1205, 3694> Me, and I will have<MG4160> you become<MG1096> fishers<MG231> of people<MG444>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/1-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>Immediately<MG2117> they left<MG863> their nets<MG1350> and followed<MG190> Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/1-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And going<MG4260> on a little<MG3641> farther<MG4260>, He saw<MG3708> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>James<MG2385> the son of Zebedee<MG2199>, and his brother<MG80> John<MG2491>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>who<MG846> were also<MG2532> in the boat<MG4143> mending<MG2675> the nets<MG1350>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/1-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Immediately<MG2117> He called<MG2564> them; and they left<MG863> their father<MG3962> Zebedee<MG2199> in the boat<MG4143> with the hired<MG3411> men<MG3411>, and went<MG565> away<MG565> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>to follow<MG3694> Him. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/1-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>They *went<MG1531> into Capernaum<MG2746b>; and immediately<MG2117> on the Sabbath<MG4521> <i>Jesus</i> entered<MG1525> the synagogue<MG4864> and <i>began</i> to teach<MG1321>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/1-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>And they were amazed<MG1605> at His teaching<MG1322>; for He was teaching<MG1321> them as <i>one</i> having<MG2192> authority<MG1849>, and not as the scribes<MG1122>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/1-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>Just<MG2117> then<MG2117> there was a man<MG444> in their synagogue<MG4864> with an unclean<MG169> spirit<MG4151>; and he cried<MG349> out<MG349>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/1-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>saying<MG3004>, “What<MG5101> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>business do you have with us, Jesus<MG2424> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>of Nazareth<MG3479>? Have You come<MG2064> to destroy<MG622> us? I know<MG3609a> who<MG5101> You are: the Holy<MG40> One<MG40> of God<MG2316>!” <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/1-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>And Jesus<MG2424> rebuked<MG2008> him, saying<MG3004>, “Be quiet<MG5392>, and come<MG1831> out<MG1831> of him!” <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/1-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>After throwing<MG4682> him into<MG4682> convulsions<MG4682> and crying<MG5455> out<MG5455> with a loud<MG3173> voice<MG5456>, the unclean<MG169> spirit<MG4151> came<MG1831> out<MG1831> of him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/1-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>And they were all<MG537a> amazed<MG2284>, so<MG5620> they debated<MG4802> among themselves<MG846>, saying<MG3004>, “What<MG5101> is this<MG3778>? A new<MG2537> teaching<MG1322> with authority<MG1849>! He commands<MG2004> even<MG2532> the unclean<MG169> spirits<MG4151>, and they obey<MG5219> Him.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/1-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Immediately<MG2117> the news<MG189> about Him spread<MG1831> everywhere<MG3837> into all<MG3650> the surrounding<MG4066> region<MG4066> of Galilee<MG1056>. <p class="hdg">Crowds Healed</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/1-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>And immediately<MG2117> after they left<MG2064> the synagogue<MG4864>, they entered<MG2064> the house<MG3614> of Simon<MG4613> and Andrew<MG406>, with <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>James<MG2385> and John<MG2491>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/1-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> Simon’s<MG4613> mother-in-law<MG3994> was lying<MG2621> sick<MG2621> with a fever<MG4445>; and they immediately<MG2117> *spoke<MG3004> to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>Jesus about<MG4012> her. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/1-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>And He came<MG4334> to her and raised<MG1453> her up<MG1453>, taking<MG2902> <i>her by</i> the hand<MG5495>, and the fever<MG4446> left<MG863> her, and she served<MG1247> them. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/1-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> when evening<MG3798> came<MG1096>, after<MG3753> the sun<MG2246> had set<MG1416>, they <i>began</i> bringing<MG5342> to Him all<MG3956> who were ill<MG2192, 2560> and those<MG3588> who were demon-possessed<MG1139>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/1-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>And the whole<MG3650> city<MG4172> had gathered<MG1996> at the door<MG2374>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/1-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>And He healed<MG2323> many<MG4183> who were ill<MG2192, 2560> with various<MG4164> diseases<MG3554>, and cast<MG1544b> out<MG1544b> many<MG4183> demons<MG1140>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/1-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>and they found<MG2147> Him and *said<MG3004> to Him, “Everyone<MG3956> is looking<MG2212> for<MG2212> You.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/1-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>He *said<MG3004> to them, “Let’s go<MG71> somewhere<MG237b> else<MG237b> to the towns<MG2969> nearby<MG2192>, so<MG2443> that<MG2443> I may also<MG2532> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[v]</a></span>preach<MG2784> there<MG1563>; for this<MG3778> is<MG1519> why<MG1519> I came<MG1831>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/1-39.htm"><b>39</b></a></span>And He went<MG2064> into their synagogues<MG4864> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[w]</a></span>preaching<MG2784> throughout<MG1519, 3650> Galilee<MG1056>, and casting<MG1544b> out<MG1544b> the demons<MG1140>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/1-40.htm"><b>40</b></a></span>And a man<MG3015> with<MG3015> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[x]</a></span>leprosy<MG3015> *came<MG2064> to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[y]</a></span>Jesus, imploring<MG3870> Him and kneeling<MG1120> down<MG1120>, and saying<MG3004> to Him, “If<MG1437> You are willing<MG2309>, You can<MG1410> make<MG2511> me clean<MG2511>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/1-41.htm"><b>41</b></a></span>Moved<MG4697> with<MG4697> compassion<MG4697>, <i>Jesus</i> reached<MG1614> out<MG1614> with His hand<MG5495> and touched<MG681> him, and *said<MG3004> to him, “I am<MG2309> willing<MG2309>;
