This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635>, the God<MH430> of Israel<MH3478> says<MH559>: “Behold<MH2009> I am going to bring<MH935> a disaster<MH7463a> upon this<MH2088> place<MH4725>, at which<MH834> the ears<MH241> of everyone<MH3605> that hears<MH8085> of it will tingle<MH6750>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/19-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>Since<MH3282, 834> they have abandoned<MH5800a> Me and have made<MH5235a> this<MH2088> place<MH4725> foreign<MH5235a>, and have burned<MH6999> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>sacrifices<MH6999> in it to other<MH312> gods<MH430> that neither<MH3808> they nor<MH3808> their forefathers<MH1> nor<MH3808> the kings<MH4428> of Judah<MH3063> had <i>ever</i> known<MH3045>, and <i>since</i> they have filled<MH4390> this<MH2088> place<MH4725> with the blood<MH1818> of the innocent<MH5355a> <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/19-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>and have built<MH1129> the high<MH1116> places<MH1116> of Baal<MH1168a> to burn<MH8313> their sons<MH1121> in the fire<MH784> as burnt<MH5930a> offerings<MH5930a> to Baal<MH1168a>, <i>a thing</i> which<MH834> I did not command<MH6680> nor speak<MH1696> of, nor<MH3808> did it <i>ever</i> enter<MH5927> My <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>mind<MH3820>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/19-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>therefore<MH3651>, behold<MH2009>, days<MH3117> are coming<MH935>,” declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>, “when this<MH2088> place<MH4725> will no<MH3808> longer<MH5750> be called<MH7121> Topheth<MH8612> or the Valley<MH1516> of Ben-hinnom<MH1121, 2011>, but rather<MH3588, 518> the Valley<MH1516> of Slaughter<MH2028>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/19-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>And I will frustrate<MH1238b> the planning<MH6098> of Judah<MH3063> and Jerusalem<MH3389> in this<MH2088> place<MH4725>, and I will make them fall<MH5307> by the sword<MH2719> before<MH6440> their enemies<MH340> and by the hand<MH3027> of those who seek<MH1245> their life<MH5315>; and I will make<MH5414> their carcasses<MH5038> food<MH3978> for the birds<MH5775> of the sky<MH8064> and the animals<MH929> of the earth<MH776>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/19-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>I will also turn<MH7760> this<MH2088> city<MH5892b> into an object<MH8047> of<MH8047> horror<MH8047> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>hissing<MH8322>; everyone<MH3605> who passes<MH5674a> by it will be<MH8074> appalled<MH8074> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>hiss<MH8319> because<MH5921> of all<MH3605> its <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>disasters<MH4347>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/19-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And I will make them eat<MH398> the flesh<MH1320> of their sons<MH1121> and the flesh<MH1320> of their daughters<MH1323>, and they will eat<MH398> one<MH376> another’s<MH7453> flesh<MH1320> during the siege<MH4692> and in the hardship<MH4689> with which<MH834> their enemies<MH340> and those who seek<MH1245> their life<MH5315> will torment<MH6693> them.”’ <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/19-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>“Then you are to break<MH7665> the jar<MH1228> in the sight<MH5869> of the men<MH376> who accompany<MH1980, 854> you, <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/19-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>and say<MH559> to them, ‘This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635> says<MH559>: “To the same<MH3602> extent<MH3602> I will break<MH7665> this<MH2088> people<MH5971a> and this<MH2088> city<MH5892b>, just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> one breaks<MH7665> a potter’s<MH3335> vessel<MH3627>, which<MH834> cannot<MH3201, 3808> again<MH5750> be repaired<MH7495>; and they will bury<MH6912> <i>their dead</i> in Topheth<MH8612>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>because<MH4480> there<MH369> is<MH369> no<MH369> <i>other</i> place<MH4725> for burial<MH6912>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/19-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>This<MH3651> is<MH3651> how<MH3651> I will treat<MH6213a> this<MH2088> place<MH4725> and its inhabitants<MH3427>,” declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>, “so as to make<MH5414> this<MH2088> city<MH5892b> like Topheth<MH8612>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/19-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>The houses<MH1004> of Jerusalem<MH3389> and the houses<MH1004> of the kings<MH4428> of Judah<MH3063> will be defiled<MH2931> like the place<MH4725> Topheth<MH8612>, because of all<MH3605> the houses<MH1004> on whose<MH834> rooftops<MH1406> they burned<MH6999> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>sacrifices<MH6999> to all<MH3605> the heavenly<MH8064> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>lights<MH6635> and poured<MH5258a> out<MH5258a> drink<MH5262a> offerings<MH5262a> to other<MH312> gods<MH430>.”’” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/19-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Then Jeremiah<MH3414> came<MH935> from Topheth<MH8612>, where<MH834, 8033> the LORD<MH3068> had sent<MH7971> him to prophesy<MH5012>;
