He cannot<MG1410, 3361> enter<MG1525> his mother’s<MG3384> womb<MG2836> a second<MG1208> time<MG1208> and be born<MG1080>, can he?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/3-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>Jesus<MG2424> answered<MG611>, “Truly<MG281>, truly<MG281>, I say<MG3004> to you, unless<MG1437, 3361> someone<MG5100> is born<MG1080> of water<MG5204> and <i>the</i> Spirit<MG4151>, he cannot<MG1410, 3756> enter<MG1525> the kingdom<MG932> of God<MG2316>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/3-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>That which has been born<MG1080> of the flesh<MG4561> is flesh<MG4561>, and that which has been born<MG1080> of the Spirit<MG4151> is spirit<MG4151>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/3-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Do not be<MG2296> amazed<MG2296> that I said<MG3004> to you, ‘You must<MG1163> be born<MG1080> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>again<MG509>.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/3-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>The wind<MG4151> blows<MG4154> where<MG3699> it wishes<MG2309>, and you hear<MG191> the sound<MG5456> of it, but you do not know<MG3609a> where<MG4159> it is coming<MG2064> from and where<MG4226> it is going<MG5217>; so<MG3779> is everyone<MG3956> who has been born<MG1080> of the Spirit<MG4151>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/3-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Nicodemus<MG3530> responded<MG611> and said<MG3004> to Him, “How<MG4459> can<MG1410> these<MG3778> things<MG3778> be?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/3-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Jesus<MG2424> answered<MG611> and said<MG3004> to him, “You are the teacher<MG1320> of Israel<MG2474>, and <i>yet</i> you do not understand<MG1097> these<MG3778> things<MG3778>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/3-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Truly<MG281>, truly<MG281>, I say<MG3004> to you, we speak<MG2980> of what<MG3739> we know<MG3609a> and testify<MG3140> of what<MG3739> we have seen<MG3708>, and you <i>people</i> do not accept<MG2983> our testimony<MG3141>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/3-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>If<MG1487> I told<MG3004> you earthly<MG1919> things<MG1919> and you do not believe<MG4100>, how<MG4459> will you believe<MG4100> if<MG1437> I tell<MG3004> you heavenly<MG2032> things<MG2032>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/3-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>No<MG3762> one<MG3762> has ascended<MG305> into heaven<MG3772>, except<MG1487, 3361> He who descended<MG2597> from heaven<MG3772>: the Son<MG5207> of Man<MG444>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/3-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And just<MG2531a> as<MG2531a> Moses<MG3475> lifted<MG5312> up<MG5312> the serpent<MG3789> in the wilderness<MG2048>, so<MG3779> must<MG1163> the Son<MG5207> of Man<MG444> be lifted<MG5312> up<MG5312>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/3-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>so<MG2443> that<MG2443> everyone<MG3956> who <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>believes<MG4100> will have<MG2192> eternal<MG166> life<MG2222> in Him. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/3-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>“For God<MG2316> so<MG3779> loved<MG25> the world<MG2889>, that He gave<MG1325> His only<MG3439> Son<MG5207>, so<MG2443> that<MG2443> everyone<MG3956> who believes<MG4100> in Him will not perish<MG622>, but have<MG2192> eternal<MG166> life<MG2222>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/3-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>For God<MG2316> did not send<MG649> the Son<MG5207> into the world<MG2889> to judge<MG2919> the world<MG2889>, but so<MG2443> that<MG2443> the world<MG2889> might be saved<MG4982> through<MG1223> Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/3-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>The one who believes<MG4100> in Him is not judged<MG2919>; the one who does not believe<MG4100> has been judged<MG2919> already<MG2235>, because<MG3754> he has not believed<MG4100> in the name<MG3686> of the only<MG3439> Son<MG5207> of God<MG2316>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/3-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And this<MG3778> is the judgment<MG2920>, that the Light<MG5457> has come<MG2064> into the world<MG2889>, and people<MG444> loved<MG25> the darkness<MG4655> rather<MG3123> than<MG2228> the Light<MG5457>; for their deeds<MG2041> were evil<MG4190>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/3-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>For everyone<MG3956> who does<MG4238> evil<MG5337> hates<MG3404> the Light<MG5457>, and does not come<MG2064> to the Light<MG5457>, so<MG2443> that<MG2443> his deeds<MG2041> will not be exposed<MG1651>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/3-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>But the one who practices<MG4160> the truth<MG225> comes<MG2064> to the Light<MG5457>, so<MG2443> that<MG2443> his deeds<MG2041> will be revealed<MG5319> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>as having been<MG1510> performed<MG2038b> in God<MG2316>.” <p class="hdg">John the Baptist’s Last Testimony</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/3-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>After<MG3326> these<MG3778> things<MG3778> Jesus<MG2424> and His disciples<MG3101> came<MG2064> into the land<MG1093> of Judea<MG2449>; and there<MG1563> He was spending<MG1304> time<MG1304> with them and baptizing<MG907>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/3-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> John<MG2491> also<MG2532> was baptizing<MG907> in Aenon<MG137>, near<MG1451> Salim<MG4530>, because<MG3754> there was an abundance<MG4183> of water<MG5204> there<MG1563>; and <i>people</i> were coming<MG3854> and being baptized<MG907>— <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/3-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>for John<MG2491> had not yet<MG3768> been<MG1510> thrown<MG906> into prison<MG5438>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/3-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>Then<MG3767> a matter<MG2214> of<MG2214> dispute<MG2214> developed<MG1096> on<MG1537> the<MG1537> part<MG1537> of<MG1537> John’s<MG2491> disciples<MG3101> with a Jew<MG2453> about<MG4012> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>purification<MG2512>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/3-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>And they came<MG2064> to John<MG2491> and said<MG3004> to him, “Rabbi<MG4461>, He who<MG3739> was with you beyond<MG4008> the Jordan<MG2446>, to whom<MG3739> you have testified<MG3140>—behold<MG2396>, He is baptizing<MG907> and all<MG3956> <i>the people</i> are coming<MG2064> to Him.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/3-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>John<MG2491> replied<MG611, 3004>, “A person<MG444> can<MG1410> receive<MG2983> not<MG3761> even<MG3761> one<MG1520> thing<MG1520> unless<MG1437, 3361> it has been<MG1510> given<MG1325> to him from heaven<MG3772>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/3-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>You yourselves<MG846> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>are<MG3140> my witnesses<MG3140> that I said<MG3004>, ‘I am<MG1510> not the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>Christ<MG5547>,’ but, ‘I have been<MG1510> sent<MG649> ahead<MG1715> of Him.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/3-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>He who has<MG2192> the bride<MG3565> is the groom<MG3566>; but the friend<MG5384> of the groom<MG3566>, who stands<MG2476> and listens<MG191> to him, rejoices<MG5463> greatly<MG5479> because<MG1223> of the groom’s<MG3566> voice<MG5456>. So<MG3767> this<MG3778> joy<MG5479> of mine<MG1699> has been made<MG4137> full<MG4137>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/3-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>He must<MG1163> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>increase<MG837>, but I must <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>decrease<MG1642>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/3-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>“He who comes<MG2064> from above<MG509> is above<MG1883> all<MG3956>; the one who is <i>only</i> from the earth<MG1093> is of the earth<MG1093> and speaks<MG2980> of the earth<MG1093>.
