for they say<MG3004> <i>things</i> and do not do<MG4160> <i>them.</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/23-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>And they tie<MG1195> up<MG1195> heavy<MG926> burdens<MG5413> and lay<MG2007> them on people’s<MG444> shoulders<MG5606>, but they themselves<MG846> are unwilling<MG3756, 2309> to move<MG2795> them with <i>so much as</i> their finger<MG1147>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/23-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>And they do<MG4160> all<MG3956> their deeds<MG2041> to be noticed<MG2300> by <i>other</i> people<MG444>; for <i>only</i> One<MG1520> is your Teacher<MG1320>, and you are all<MG3956> brothers<MG80> <i>and sisters.</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/23-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And do not call<MG2564> <i>anyone</i> on earth<MG1093> your father<MG3962>; for you do not enter<MG1525> <i>it</i> yourselves<MG4771>, nor<MG3761> do you allow<MG863> those<MG3588> who are entering<MG1525> to go<MG1525> in<MG1525>.<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span> <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/23-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>“Woe<MG3759> to you, scribes<MG1122> and Pharisees<MG5330>, hypocrites<MG5273>, because<MG3754> you travel<MG4013> around<MG4013> on sea<MG2281> and land<MG3584> to make<MG4160> one<MG1520> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>proselyte<MG4339>; but whoever<MG3739, 302> swears<MG3660> by the gold<MG5557> of the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>temple<MG3485> is obligated<MG3784>.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/23-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>You fools<MG3474> and blind<MG5185> men<MG5185>! Which<MG5101> is <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>more<MG3173> important<MG3173>, the gold<MG5557> or<MG2228> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>temple<MG3485> that sanctified<MG37> the gold<MG5557>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/23-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And <i>you say,</i> ‘Whoever<MG3739, 302> swears<MG3660> by the altar<MG2379>, <i>that</i> is nothing<MG3762>; but whoever<MG3739, 302> swears<MG3660> by the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>offering<MG1435> that is on it is obligated<MG3784>.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/23-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>You blind<MG5185> men<MG5185>, which<MG5101> is <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>more<MG3173> important<MG3173>, the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>offering<MG1435> or<MG2228> the altar<MG2379> that sanctifies<MG37> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>offering<MG1435>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/23-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Therefore<MG3767>, the one who swears<MG3660> by the altar<MG2379>, swears<MG3660> <i>both</i> by <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>the altar<MG2379> and by everything<MG3956> on it. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/23-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>And the one who swears<MG3660> by the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>temple<MG3485>, swears<MG3660> <i>both</i> by <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[u]</a></span>the temple<MG846> and by Him who dwells<MG2730> in it. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/23-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>And the one who swears<MG3660> by <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[v]</a></span>heaven<MG3772>, swears<MG3660> <i>both</i> by the throne<MG2362> of God<MG2316> and by Him who sits<MG2521> upon it. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/23-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>“Woe<MG3759> to you, scribes<MG1122> and Pharisees<MG5330>, hypocrites<MG5273>! For you tithe<MG586b> mint<MG2238> and dill<MG432> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[w]</a></span>cumin<MG2951>, and have neglected<MG863> the weightier<MG926> provisions<MG926> of the Law<MG3551>: justice<MG2920> and mercy<MG1656> and faithfulness<MG4102>; but these<MG3778> <i>are the things</i> you should<MG1163> have done<MG4160> without<MG2532, 3361> neglecting<MG863> the others<MG2548>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/23-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>You blind<MG5185> guides<MG3595>, who <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[x]</a></span>strain<MG1368> out<MG1368> a gnat<MG2971> and swallow<MG2666> a camel<MG2574>! <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/23-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>“Woe<MG3759> to you, scribes<MG1122> and Pharisees<MG5330>, hypocrites<MG5273>! For you clean<MG2511> the outside<MG1855> of the cup<MG4221> and of the dish<MG3953>, but inside<MG2081> they are full<MG1073> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[y]</a></span>of robbery<MG724> and self-indulgence<MG192>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/23-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>You blind<MG5185> Pharisee<MG5330>, first<MG4413> clean<MG2511> the inside<MG1787> of the cup<MG4221> and of the dish<MG3953>, so<MG2443> that<MG2443> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[z]</a></span>outside<MG1622> of it may also<MG2532> become<MG1096> clean<MG2513>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/23-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>“Woe<MG3759> to you, scribes<MG1122> and Pharisees<MG5330>, hypocrites<MG5273>! For you are like<MG3945> whitewashed<MG2867> tombs<MG5028> which<MG3748> on the outside<MG1855> appear<MG5316> beautiful<MG5611>, but inside<MG2081> they are full<MG1073> of dead<MG3498> men’s<MG3498> bones<MG3747> and all<MG3956> uncleanness<MG167>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/23-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>So<MG3779> you too<MG2532>, outwardly<MG1855> appear<MG5316> righteous<MG1342> to people<MG444>, but inwardly<MG2081> you are full<MG3324> of hypocrisy<MG5272> and lawlessness<MG458>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/23-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>“Woe<MG3759> to you, scribes<MG1122> and Pharisees<MG5330>, hypocrites<MG5273>!
