“Let us hold hands to save our planet for the future” </mark></h2> <p> <p>Green and clean Campus, where environmentally friendly practices and education combine to promote sustainable and eco-friendly practices in the campus and beyond the campus. The green campus concept offers the institution an opportunity to take the lead in redefining its environmental culture through instilling environmental ethics among students and staff. The university also promotes        Green and clean campus through adopting, practicing and promoting environmentally friendly practices among students and staff to generate Eco-consciousness among them to save our planet in future.</p> </p> <h2 class="h3 title-main title text-bold">Objectives of the Practice</h2> <hr class="title-hr"> <p> <p>Green campus initiatives are becoming an integral part of the modern education system, and educational institutions can be pioneers in promoting these principles in society. Our college has launched a green campus program to support a sustainable and climate-friendly environment. The main objectives of the projects were environmental awareness and education, use of sustainable energy and energy saving initiatives, extensive recycling and composting, and greening of the campus. To protect and conserve ecological systems and resources within the campus. To ensure responsible use of environmental resources to meet the needs and aspirations of current and future generations. To safeguard ecological systems and resources on campus. To incorporate environmental concerns into plans, programs, and policies for social development and outreach initiatives.</p> </p> <h2 class="h3 title-main title text-bold"> The Context </h2> <hr class="title-hr"> <p>The primary goal of this green campus initiative is to guarantee that there will be enough materials, water, and other resources for future generations. The primary obstacle, however, lies in effectively putting the knowledge of sustainable development into reality. Every new development must take into account and preserve the right balance of the environmental, social, and economic spheres. It is also crucial that all staff and students participate. Our college has made an effort to put this program into practice by planning conferences, staff and student training sessions, and interdisciplinary life science research initiatives. In order to sustain and advance green practices, greater emphasis is being placed on the creation of appropriate infrastructure.</p> <br/> <h2 class="h3 title-main title text-bold">The Practice </h2> <hr class="title-hr"> <p>Numerous initiatives have been supported by our university in an effort to preserve the environment and its natural resources. Our university has a plastic-free campus policy and prohibits smoking. Our college's e-library and office are partially paperless. By vermicomposting, the university has solved its waste disposal issue. Compost is created in vermicomposting pits using the solid waste from the college canteen, and this compost is then used for gardening on campus. Additionally, the laboratories have tanks connected to their runoff water in an effort to conserve water. Water that has been kept is used for various purposes. During the rainy season, we collect roof runoff through filter-fitted pipes in a reservoir and use it for gardening, fire drills, and road washing. The college has installed solar panels on the roofs. Additionally, the college has installed LED facilities in the main campus classrooms, seminar rooms, and examination rooms, etc. The campus is home to a variety of plant and animal species. The campus has diverse flora and fauna. The campus has approximately 100 species of plants, including medicinal herbs, etc. Since 2018, the college has implemented many different projects and organized seminars on the environment:</p> <ul> <li>Adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) by both faculty and students.</li> <li>Curbing plastic usage, the campus ensures that its surrounding ecosystem remains free from harmful pollutants</li> <li>University students also promoted visarjan of Eco-friendly Ganesh Idols at man-made ponds</li> <li>Visit to Suzlon Wind Power Plant</li> <li>Educational visit at “Solid Waste Treatment Plant” Vilholi, Nasik</li> <li>Educational Visit at Water treatment plant, Nilgiri Baag,Nasik</li> <li>Visit to Sewage Treatment Plant, Gangapur Road, Nashik</li> <li>Campus employs robust waste management practices</li> </ul> <p>Small research projects also take place in various departments. Regarding important environmental issues, such as bioremediation, phytoremediation, etc., the NSS unit of the college deserves a special mention for organizing regular campus clean-up works, an information program on emerging issues in environmental education. The fire protection system was created for the university. A roof water collection system that collects rainwater would provide water for firefighting. In addition, the college recently opened a nature club for students.</p> <p>To provide a well-rounded education that also has a positive impact on the environment, the college implements practices that reduce generation and deal with solid waste systematically, committing to the 3Rs of the environment (reduce, reuse and recycle). The university collects paper waste generated on campus and cooperates waste dealers for recycling. It reduces solid waste by developing a technology-oriented teaching and management model. It reduces paper usage by supporting digitization of attendance and internal assessment data. The need for printed books is reduced by updating the collection of e-books and e-journals in the university library. We recommend that students and teachers use email to submit assignments. Initiatives aimed at spreading awareness among students about ways to reduce food waste by minimizing the use of packaged foods. Solid waste management workshops are organized for students</p> <h2 class="h3 title-main title text-bold">Evidence of Success</h2> <hr class="title-hr"> <p>Plants having Medicinal Value are planted all across the campus, it is a fascinating and educational project by planting medicinal plants with name tags all around. This approach serves multiple purposes: it educates students about the variety and uses of medicinal plants, promotes biodiversity, and can create a more aesthetically pleasing environment. Each plant's name tag likely includes not just the common name but also its scientific name which offers insights into its medicinal properties, how it's used in traditional or modern medicine, and possibly some cautionary notes if the plant can be toxic or requires special handling.</p> <p>Data for the campus audit project were collected primarily by undergraduate students in the SOET, Civil Department. This gave them a sense of responsibility and a better understanding of their role as environmental advocates. The large number of participants from various schools and colleges is very valuable in the various awareness programs organized by our college.
