I'm responsible for leading the expansion of LOCALiQ Berkshire and its awarding-winning local newspapers, magazines & websites in today's exciting growing market. In addition to the role at LOCALiQ, I'm also the co-founder of Middle Media in the UAE and the Chairman of Reading's most successful business networking group The First Friday Club, of which boasts more than 1,800 professional members.</p><p>The best part about being a Sales Director is knowing that what I do supports the future of my team and the clientele that I trade with. My current role sees me still having a guiding role with the editorial teams at Salisbury, Basingstoke and Andover, while at the same time keeping the commercial side's focus on where the next customer is coming from.</p><p>The thrill of being part of a dynamic and fast-paced industry never goes away. Primarily my team at Newsquest Scotland Events produce high profiling awards dinners with audiences reaching up to 600. Most recently the team and I have been creating bespoke business breakfasts for clients across all sectors. I am extremely proud of how the department has grown and continues to flourish, offering clients a unique brand positioning.</p><p>Working within a fast-paced media brand is extremely rewarding, I am able to be creative, think outside of the box and work across all departments. I have worked as point of first contact client liaison, I have produced 100’s (possibly 1000’s) of publications and adverts for a diverse set of clients - from County Councils, to national businesses, to local businesses. All of which had many differing requirements and challenges. I am proud of my profession and my personal accomplishments. I live to be creative and I cannot think of a more satisfying career path than that of a graphic designer.</p><p>In my 20 years working in the publishing industry I have witnessed the rise of the digital workflow. When I started it was basic computers / paste-up boards / bromide / negatives / metal plates which all then finally went to a printing press… Now it’s either computer / tablet / online interface which then goes directly to digital printing press / website. I’ve worked with hot-set, cold-set, analogue and digital. I write handfuls of articles daily for three newspapers, covering everything from missing birds and gorgeous babies, to tributes and fundraisers, and everything in between. This means I'm on the phone interviewing people a lot of the time, as well as sending plenty of emails, and getting out and about to cover events and shows in local areas.</p><p>I genuinely love my role. After studying English Literature at university, I had a few paths I was thinking of following, but journalism is definitely a good fit for me. Chatting away to people who have a story they want to share with me is always rewarding – and I'm definitely too talkative and nosy to do any other job!
