The aims of this research were to further explore this intangibility by placing emphasis on defining emotional normative ratings for the “Waldstein” (Op. 53) and “Tempest” (Op. 31) Sonatas of Beethoven. To this end, a musicological analysis was conducted on these particular sonatas and referential patterns in these works of Beethoven were defined. Appropriate interactive questionnaires were designed in order to create a statistical normative rating that describes the emotional status when an individual listens to these musical excerpts. Based on these ratings, it is possible for emotional annotations for these same referential patterns to be created and integrated into the music score. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=emotional%20annotations" title="emotional annotations">emotional annotations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=intangible%20cultural%20heritage" title=" intangible cultural heritage"> intangible cultural heritage</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=musicological%20analysis" title=" musicological analysis"> musicological analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=normative%20ratings" title=" normative ratings"> normative ratings</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/89504/preliminary-knowledge-extraction-from-beethovens-sonatas-from-musical-referential-patterns-to-emotional-normative-ratings" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/89504.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">175</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">81</span> Civic Participation in Context of Political Transformation: Case of Argentina </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kirill%20Neverov">Kirill Neverov</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In the paper is considered issues of civic participation in context of changing political landscape of Argentina. The main concern of this article is to study the Squalene composition in the Lebanese olive oil and to compare it with foreign oil results. To our knowledge, extraction of Squalene from the Lebanese olive oil has not been conducted before. Three different techniques were studied and experiments were performed on three brands of olive oil, Al Wadi Al Akhdar, Virgo Bio and Boulos. The techniques performed are the Fractional Crystallization, the Soxhlet and the Esterification. By comparing the results, it is found that the Lebanese oil contains squalene and Soxhlet method is the most effective between the three methods extracting about 6.5E-04 grams of Squalene per grams of olive oil. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=squalene" title="squalene">squalene</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=extraction" title=" extraction"> extraction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=crystallization" title=" crystallization"> crystallization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Soxhlet" title=" Soxhlet"> Soxhlet</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/15134/extraction-of-squalene-from-lebanese-olive-oil" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/15134.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">519</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">79</span> Lobbying Regulation in the EU: Transparency’s Achilles’ Heel</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Krambia-Kapardis%20Maria">Krambia-Kapardis Maria</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Neophytidou%20Christina"> Neophytidou Christina</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Lobbying is an inherent aspect within the democratic regimes across the globe. Although it can provide decision-makers with valuable knowledge and grant access to stakeholders in the decision-making process, it can also lead to undue influence and unfair competition at the expense of the public interest if it not transparent. Given the multi-level governance structure of the EU, it is no surprise that the EU policy-making arena has become a place-to-be for lobbyists. However, in order to ensure that influence is legitimate and not biased of any business interests, lobbying must be effectively regulated. A comparison with the US and Canadian lobbying regulatory framework and utilising some good practices from EU countries it is apparent that lobbying is the Achilles’ heel to transparency in the EU. It is evident that EU institutions suffer from ineffective regulations and could in fact benefit from a more robust, mandatory and better implemented system of lobbying regulation. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=EU" title="EU">EU</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lobbying%20regulation" title=" lobbying regulation"> lobbying regulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=transparency" title=" transparency"> transparency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=democratic%20regimes" title=" democratic regimes "> democratic regimes </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/17192/lobbying-regulation-in-the-eu-transparencys-achilles-heel" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/17192.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">422</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">78</span> Key Factors for a Smart City</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marta%20Christina%20Suciu">Marta Christina Suciu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cristina%20Andreea%20Florea"> Cristina Andreea Florea</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The purpose of this paper is to highlight the relevance of building smart cities in the context of regional development and to analyze the important factors that make a city smart. However, planning smart cities and deploying applications dealing with the complex problems of the urban environment is a very challenging task that is difficult to be undertaken solely by the cities. We argue that the uptake of smart city strategies is facilitated, first, through the development of smart city application repositories allowing re-use of already developed and tested software, and, second, through cloud computing which disengages city authorities from any resource constraints, technical or financial, and has a higher impact and greater effect at the city level The combination of these two solutions allows city governments and municipalities to select and deploy a large number of applications dedicated to different city functions, which collectively could create a multiplier effect with a greater impact on the urban environment. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=smart%20cities" title="smart cities">smart cities</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=applications" title=" applications"> applications</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cloud%20computing" title=" cloud computing"> cloud computing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=migration%20to%20the%20cloud" title=" migration to the cloud"> migration to the cloud</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=application%20repositories" title=" application repositories"> application repositories</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/61064/accelerating-the-uptake-of-smart-city-applications-through-cloud-computing" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/61064.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">356</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">76</span> Investigation of Thermal Comfort Conditions of Vernacular Buildings Taking into Consideration Various Use Patterns: A Case Study</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christina%20Kalogirou">Christina Kalogirou</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The main goal of this paper is to explore the thermal comfort conditions in traditional buildings during all seasons of the year taking into consideration various use patterns. For this purpose a dwelling of vernacular architecture is selected and data regarding the indoor and outdoor air and surface temperature as well as the relative humidity are collected. These measurements are conducted in situ during the period of a year. Also, this building is occupied periodically and a calendar of occupancy was kept (duration of residence, hours of heating system operation, hours of natural ventilation, etc.) in order to correlate the indoor conditions recorded with the use patterns via statistical analysis. Furthermore, the effect of the high thermal inertia of the stone masonry walls and the different orientation of the rooms is addressed. Thus, this paper concludes in some interesting results on the effect of the users in the indoor climate conditions in the case of buildings with high thermal inertia envelops. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=thermal%20comfort" title="thermal comfort">thermal comfort</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=in%20situ%20measurements" title=" in situ measurements"> in situ measurements</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=occupant%20behaviour" title=" occupant behaviour"> occupant behaviour</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vernacular%20architecture" title=" vernacular architecture"> vernacular architecture</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/67831/investigation-of-thermal-comfort-conditions-of-vernacular-buildings-taking-into-consideration-various-use-patterns-a-case-study" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/67831.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">443</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">75</span> Investigating the Systematic Implications of Plastic Waste Additions to Concrete Taking a Circular Approach</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christina%20Cheong">Christina Cheong</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Naomi%20Keena"> Naomi Keena</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In the face of growing urbanization the construction of new buildings is inevitable and with current construction methods leading to environmental degradation much questioning is needed around reducing the environmental impact of buildings. This paper explores the global environmental issue of concrete production in parallel with the problem of plastic waste, and questions if new solutions into plastic waste additions in concrete is a viable sustainable solution with positive systematic implications to living systems, both human and non-human. We investigate how certification programs can be used to access the sustainability of the new concrete composition. With this classification we look to the health impacts as well as reusability of such concrete in a second or third life cycle. We conclude that such an approach has benefits to the environment and that taking a circular approach to its development, in terms of the overall life cycle of the new concrete product, can help understand the nuances in terms of the material’s environmental and human health impacts. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Concrete" title="Concrete">Concrete</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Plastic%20waste%20additions%20to%20concrete" title=" Plastic waste additions to concrete"> Plastic waste additions to concrete</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sustainability%20ratings" title=" sustainability ratings"> sustainability ratings</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sustainable%20materials" title=" sustainable materials"> sustainable materials</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/119564/investigating-the-systematic-implications-of-plastic-waste-additions-to-concrete-taking-a-circular-approach" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/119564.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">149</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">74</span> Focusing of Technology Monitoring Activities Using Indicators</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=G%C3%BCnther%20Schuh">Günther Schuh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christina%20K%C3%B6nig"> Christina König</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Toni%20Drescher"> Toni Drescher</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> One of the key factors for the competitiveness and market success of technology-driven companies is the timely provision of information about emerging technologies, changes in existing technologies, as well as relevant related changes in the market's structures and participants. Therefore, many companies conduct technology intelligence (TI) activities to ensure an early identification of appropriate technologies and other (weak) signals. One base activity of TI is technology monitoring, which is defined as the systematic tracking of developments within a specified topic of interest as well as related trends over a long period of time. Due to the very large number of dynamically changing parameters within the technological and the market environment of a company as well as their possible interdependencies, it is necessary to focus technology monitoring on specific indicators or other criteria, which are able to point out technological developments and market changes. In addition to the execution of a literature review on existing approaches, which mainly propose patent-based indicators, it is examined in this paper whether indicator systems from other branches such as risk management or economic research could be transferred to technology monitoring in order to enable an efficient and focused technology monitoring for companies. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=technology%20forecasting" title="technology forecasting">technology forecasting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=technology%20indicator" title=" technology indicator"> technology indicator</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=technology%20intelligence" title=" technology intelligence"> technology intelligence</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=technology%20management" title=" technology management"> technology management</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=technology%20monitoring" title=" technology monitoring"> technology monitoring</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/34402/focusing-of-technology-monitoring-activities-using-indicators" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/34402.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">470</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">73</span> A Multicriteria Model for Sustainable Management in Agriculture</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Basil%20Manos">Basil Manos</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Thomas%20Bournaris"> Thomas Bournaris</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christina%20Moulogianni"> Christina Moulogianni</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The European agricultural policy supports all member states to apply agricultural development plans for the development of their agricultural sectors. A specific measure of the agricultural development plans refers to young people in order to enter into the agricultural sector. This measure helps the participating young farmers in achieving maximum efficiency, using methods and environmentally friendly practices, by altering their farm plans. This study applies a Multicriteria Mathematical Programming (MCDA) model for the young farmers to find farm plans that achieve the maximum gross margin and the minimum environmental impacts (less use of fertilizers and irrigation water). The analysis was made in the region of Central Macedonia, Greece, among young farmers who have participated in the “Setting up Young Farmers” measure during 2007-2010. The analysis includes the implementation of the MCDA model for the farm plans optimization and the comparison of selected environmental indicators with those of the existent situation. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multicriteria" title="multicriteria">multicriteria</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optimum%20farm%20plans" title=" optimum farm plans"> optimum farm plans</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=environmental%20impacts" title=" environmental impacts"> environmental impacts</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sustainable%20management" title=" sustainable management"> sustainable management</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3653/a-multicriteria-model-for-sustainable-management-in-agriculture" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3653.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">340</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">72</span> Barriers and Drivers Towards the Use of Childhood Vaccination Services by Undocumented Migrant Caregivers in Sabah, Malaysia: A Qualitative Analysis</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Michal%20Christina%20Steven">Michal Christina Steven</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohd.%20Yusof%20Hj%20Ibrahim"> Mohd. These undocumented migrants present a significant challenge in achieving the elimination of vaccine-preventable diseases (VPD). Due to the recent polio outbreak among the undocumented migrant children in Sabah, an in-depth interview was conducted among the caregivers of undocumented migrant children to identify the barriers and drivers towards vaccinating their children. Financial barriers, legal citizenship status, language barrier, the COVID-19 pandemic, and physical barriers have been the barriers to access vaccination services by undocumented migrants. Five significant drivers for undocumented migrants to vaccinate their children are social influence, fear of disease, parental trust in healthcare providers, good support, and vaccine availability. Necessary action should be taken immediately to address the problems of vaccinating the children of undocumented migrants to prevent the re-emergence of VPD. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Malaysia" title="Malaysia">Malaysia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polio" title=" polio"> polio</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sabah" title=" Sabah"> Sabah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=undocumented%20migrants" title=" undocumented migrants"> undocumented migrants</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/137394/barriers-and-drivers-towards-the-use-of-childhood-vaccination-services-by-undocumented-migrant-caregivers-in-sabah-malaysia-a-qualitative-analysis" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/137394.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">159</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">71</span> Actual and Perceived Financial Sophistication and Wealth Accumulation: The Role of Education and Gender</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christina%20E.%20Bannier">Christina E. Using survey data from the German SAVE initiative, we find strong gender- and education-related differences in the distribution of the two variables: Whereas financial literacy rises in formal education, confidence increases in education for men but decreases for women. As a consequence, highly-educated women become strongly underconfident, while men remain overconfident. We show that these differences influence wealth accumulation: The positive effect of financial literacy is stronger for women than for men and is increasing in women’s education but decreasing in men’s. For highly-educated men, however, overconfidence closes this gap by increasing wealth via stronger financial engagement. Interestingly, female underconfidence does not reduce current wealth levels though it weakens future-oriented financial engagement and may thus impair future wealth accumulation. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=financial%20literacy" title="financial literacy">financial literacy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=financial%20sophistication" title=" financial sophistication"> financial sophistication</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=confidence" title=" confidence"> confidence</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wealth" title=" wealth"> wealth</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=household%20finance" title=" household finance"> household finance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=behavioral%20finance" title=" behavioral finance"> behavioral finance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gender" title=" gender"> gender</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=formal%20education" title=" formal education"> formal education</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/47004/actual-and-perceived-financial-sophistication-and-wealth-accumulation-the-role-of-education-and-gender" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/47004.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">267</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">70</span> Coronavirus Academic Paper Sorting Application</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christina%20A.%20van%20Hal">Christina A. van Hal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xiaoqian%20Jiang"> Xiaoqian Jiang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Luyao%20Chen"> Luyao Chen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yan%20Chu"> Yan Chu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Robert%20D.%20Jolly"> Robert D. A summary page introduces the application function and capabilities, while an interactive map provides daily updates on infection, death, and recovery rates. A page with a pivot table allows publication sorting by topic, with an interactive data table that allows sorting topics by columns, as wells as the capability to view abstracts. Additionally, publications may be sorted by the medical topics they cover. We used the CORD-19 database to compile lists of publications. The data table can sort binary variables, allowing the user to pick desired publication topics, such as papers that describe COVID-19 symptoms. Its quick growth makes it advantageous for carbon sequestering, while its strength class lends itself to structural applications. Market research shows that the demand for timber is growing, especially mass timber. An environmental product declaration, or EPD, for eucalyptus Cloeziana in the Australian market has been evaluated and compared to the EPD’s of steel and Douglas fir of the same region. An EPD follows a product throughout its life cycle, stating values for global warming potential, ozone depletion potential, acidification potential, eutrophication potential, photochemical ozone creation potential, and abiotic depletion potential. This paper highlights the market potential, as well as the environmental benefits and challenges to using Gympie Messmate as a structural building material. In addition, a case study is performed to compare steel, Douglas fir, and eucalyptus in terms of embodied carbon and structural weight within a single structural bay. Comparisons among the three materials highlight both the differences in structural capabilities as well as environmental impact. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=eucalyptus" title="eucalyptus">eucalyptus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=timber" title=" timber"> timber</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=construction" title=" construction"> construction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=structural" title=" structural"> structural</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=material" title=" material"> material</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/142348/carbon-sequestering-and-structural-capabilities-of-eucalyptus-cloeziana" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/142348.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">184</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">68</span> Investigating Transformative Processes through Personal, social, Professional and Educational Development of Adult Graduates in Second Chance Schools in Greece: a Quantitative and Qualitative Survey throughout the Country</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christina%20Kalogirou">Christina Kalogirou</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The object of this research is to explore the views of Greek Second Chance Schools’ (SCS) graduates regarding their personal, social, professional and educational development after graduation. SCS are addressed to adults who had failed to complete their studies in the nine-year compulsory education. Furthermore, the research focuses on their motives as well as on any possible achievement of transformative processes. The quantitative survey involved in total 426 graduates while in the qualitative survey participated 38 persons, all of whom graduated in the period 2010-2012 from 27 schools throughout the country. The survey was conducted by filling in a structured questionnaire and by carrying out semi-structured interviews. As regards the results, the respondents decided to attend the SCS primarily to acquire knowledge while most of them feel that they managed to meet their goals. Also, graduates recognize that studying in SCS contributed primarily in their social and personal development. In addition, an encouraging fact is that some of the graduates recognize the transformative processes which they experienced during their studies in SCS. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Adults%20Education" title="Adults Education">Adults Education</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Motives%20of%20Attendance" title=" Motives of Attendance"> Motives of Attendance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Personal-Social-Professional-Educational%20Development" title=" Personal-Social-Professional-Educational Development"> Personal-Social-Professional-Educational Development</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Transformative%20Processes" title=" Transformative Processes"> Transformative Processes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Quantitative%20and%20Qualitative%20Survey" title=" Quantitative and Qualitative Survey"> Quantitative and Qualitative Survey</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/66711/investigating-transformative-processes-through-personal-social-professional-and-educational-development-of-adult-graduates-in-second-chance-schools-in-greece-a-quantitative-and-qualitative-survey-throughout-the-country" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/66711.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">283</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">67</span> 21st Century Provocation: Modern Slavery, the Implications for Individuals on the Autism Spectrum</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christina%20Surmei">Christina Surmei</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is defined as a diverse range of developmental conditions that affect an individual’s functionality. ASD is not linear, and individuals can present with deficits in social interaction, communication, and demonstrate limited, repetitive patterns of behaviour, interests, or activities. These characteristics may be observed in a variety of ways and range from mild to severe. ASD may include autism disorder, pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified, Asperger’s, or other related pervasive developmental disorders. Modern slavery is defined as 'situations of exploitation that a person cannot refuse or leave because of threats, violence, coercion, and abuse of power or deception'. A review of the literature investigated the prevalence of research regarding ASD and modern slavery. Two universal search engines and five online journals were used as the apparatuses of inquiry. The results revealed two editorials, one study, and one act, totaling four publications attesting to ASD and modern slavery as a joint entity. This is representative of a vast absence of research. However, as individual entities research on autism and modern slavery is in a general high occurrence. This paper has identified a significant gap in research on ASD and modern slavery, and initiates the dialogue to unpack a significant global issue in society today. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=autism%20spectrum" title="autism spectrum">autism spectrum</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=education" title=" education"> education</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=modern%20slavery" title=" modern slavery"> modern slavery</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=support" title=" support"> support</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/86867/21st-century-provocation-modern-slavery-the-implications-for-individuals-on-the-autism-spectrum" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/86867.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">167</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">66</span> Optimization Model for Identification of Assembly Alternatives of Large-Scale, Make-to-Order Products</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Henrik%20Prinzhorn">Henrik Prinzhorn</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Peter%20Nyhuis"> Peter Nyhuis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Johannes%20Wagner"> Johannes Wagner</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Peter%20Burggr%C3%A4f"> Peter Burggräf</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Torben%20Schmitz"> Torben Schmitz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christina%20Reuter"> Christina Reuter</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Assembling large-scale products, such as airplanes, locomotives, or wind turbines, involves frequent process interruptions induced by e.g. delayed material deliveries or missing availability of resources. This leads to a negative impact on the logistical performance of a producer of xxl-products. In industrial practice, in case of interruptions, the identification, evaluation and eventually the selection of an alternative order of assembly activities (‘assembly alternative’) leads to an enormous challenge, especially if an optimized logistical decision should be reached. Therefore, in this paper, an innovative, optimization model for the identification of assembly alternatives that addresses the given problem is presented. It describes make-to-order, large-scale product assembly processes as a resource constrained project scheduling (RCPS) problem which follows given restrictions in practice. For the evaluation of the assembly alternative, a cost-based definition of the logistical objectives (delivery reliability, inventory, make-span and workload) is presented. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=assembly%20scheduling" title="assembly scheduling">assembly scheduling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=large-scale%20products" title=" large-scale products"> large-scale products</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=make-to-order" title=" make-to-order"> make-to-order</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optimization" title=" optimization"> optimization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rescheduling" title=" rescheduling"> rescheduling</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/40012/optimization-model-for-identification-of-assembly-alternatives-of-large-scale-make-to-order-products" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/40012.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">459</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">65</span> Diffusive Transport of VOCs Through Composite Liners</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christina%20Jery">Christina Jery</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=R.%20K.%20Anjana"> R. The primary function of a barrier system is to control the contaminant transport from the leachate (dissolved phase) and landfill gas (vapour phase) out of the landfill thereby minimizing the environmental impact. This study is undertaken to investigate the diffusive migration of VOCs through composite liners. VOCs are known hazardous air pollutants were often existing in both the vapour phase and dissolved phase. These compounds are known to diffuse readily through the polymeric geomembranes. The objective of the research is to develop a comprehensive data set of diffusive parameters involved in the diffusion of VOCs in the composite liner (1.5 mm HDPE geomembrane overlying a 30mm compacted clay layer). For this purpose, the study aims to develop a new experimental setup for determining the diffusion characteristics. The key parameters of diffusion (partitioning, diffusion and permeation coefficients) are examined. The diffusion tests are carried out both in aqueous and vapor phase. Finally, an attempt is also made to study the effect of low temperature on the diffusion characteristics. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=diffusion" title="diffusion">diffusion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sorption" title=" sorption"> sorption</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=organic%20compounds" title=" organic compounds"> organic compounds</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=composite%20liners" title=" composite liners"> composite liners</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=geomembrane" title=" geomembrane"> geomembrane</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/60874/diffusive-transport-of-vocs-through-composite-liners" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/60874.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">366</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">64</span> Evaluation of the Sustainability of Greek Vernacular Architecture in Different Climate Zones: Architectural Typology and Building Physics </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christina%20Kalogirou">Christina Kalogirou</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Investigating the integration of bioclimatic design into vernacular architecture could lead to interesting results regarding the preservation of cultural heritage while enhancing the energy efficiency of historic buildings. Furthermore, these recognized principles and systems of bioclimatic design in vernacular settlements could be applied to modern architecture and thus to new buildings in such areas. This study introduces an approach to categorizing distinct technologies and design principles of bioclimatic design based on a thoughtful approach to various climatic zones and environment in Greece (mountainous areas, islands and lowlands). For this purpose, various types of dwellings are evaluated for their response to climate, regarding the layout of the buildings (orientation, floor plans’ shape, semi-open spaces), the site planning, the openings (size, position, protection), the building envelope (walls: construction materials-thickness, roof construction detailing) and the migratory living pattern according to seasonal needs. As a result, various passive design principles (that could be adapted to current architectural practice in such areas, in order to optimize the relationship between site, building, climate and energy efficiency) are proposed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bioclimatic%20design" title="bioclimatic design">bioclimatic design</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=buildings%20physics" title=" buildings physics"> buildings physics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=climatic%20zones" title=" climatic zones"> climatic zones</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=energy%20efficiency" title=" energy efficiency"> energy efficiency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vernacular%20architecture" title=" vernacular architecture"> vernacular architecture</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/67812/evaluation-of-the-sustainability-of-greek-vernacular-architecture-in-different-climate-zones-architectural-typology-and-building-physics" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/67812.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">387</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">63</span> Dialogue Meetings as an Arena for Collaboration and Reflection among Researchers and Practitioners </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kerstin%20Grunden">Kerstin Grunden</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ann%20Svensson"> Ann Svensson</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Berit%20Forsman"> Berit Forsman</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christina%20Karlsson"> Christina Karlsson</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ayman%20Obeid"> Ayman Obeid</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The research question of the article is to explore whether the dialogue meetings method could be relevant for reflective learning among researchers and practitioners when welfare technology should be implemented in municipalities, or not. A testbed was planned to be implemented in a retirement home in a Swedish municipality, and the practitioners worked with a pre-study of that testbed. In the article, the dialogue between the researchers and the practitioners in the dialogue meetings is described and analyzed. The potential of dialogue meetings as an arena for learning and reflection among researchers and practitioners is discussed. The research methodology approach is participatory action research with mixed methods (dialogue meetings, focus groups, participant observations). The main findings from the dialogue meetings were that the researchers learned more about the use of traditional research methods, and the practitioners learned more about how they could improve their use of the methods to facilitate change processes in their organization. These findings have the potential both for the researchers and the practitioners to result in more relevant use of research methods in change processes in organizations. It is concluded that dialogue meetings could be relevant for reflective learning among researchers and practitioners when welfare technology should be implemented in a health care organization. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dialogue%20meetings" title="dialogue meetings">dialogue meetings</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=implementation" title=" implementation"> implementation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=reflection" title=" reflection"> reflection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=test%20bed" title=" test bed"> test bed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=welfare%20technology" title=" welfare technology"> welfare technology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=participatory%20action%20research" title=" participatory action research"> participatory action research</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/116644/dialogue-meetings-as-an-arena-for-collaboration-and-reflection-among-researchers-and-practitioners" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/116644.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">146</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">62</span> Multichannel Surface Electromyography Trajectories for Hand Movement Recognition Using Intrasubject and Intersubject Evaluations</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christina%20Adly">Christina Adly</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Meena%20Abdelmeseeh"> Meena Abdelmeseeh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tamer%20Basha"> Tamer Basha</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper proposes a system for hand movement recognition using multichannel surface EMG(sEMG) signals obtained from 40 subjects using 40 different exercises, which are available on the Ninapro(Non-Invasive Adaptive Prosthetics) database. First, we applied processing methods to the raw sEMG signals to convert them to their amplitudes. Second, we used deep learning methods to solve our problem by passing the preprocessed signals to Fully connected neural networks(FCNN) and recurrent neural networks(RNN) with Long Short Term Memory(LSTM). Using intrasubject evaluation, The accuracy using the FCNN is 72%, with a processing time for training around 76 minutes, and for RNN's accuracy is 79.9%, with 8 minutes and 22 seconds processing time. Third, we applied some postprocessing methods to improve the accuracy, like majority voting(MV) and Movement Error Rate(MER). The accuracy after applying MV is 75% and 86% for FCNN and RNN, respectively. The MER value has an inverse relationship with the prediction delay while varying the window length for measuring the MV. The different part uses the RNN with the intersubject evaluation. The experimental results showed that to get a good accuracy for testing with reasonable processing time, we should use around 20 subjects. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hand%20movement%20recognition" title="hand movement recognition">hand movement recognition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=recurrent%20neural%20network" title=" recurrent neural network"> recurrent neural network</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=movement%20error%20rate" title=" movement error rate"> movement error rate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=intrasubject%20evaluation" title=" intrasubject evaluation"> intrasubject evaluation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=intersubject%20evaluation" title=" intersubject evaluation"> intersubject evaluation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/149564/multichannel-surface-electromyography-trajectories-for-hand-movement-recognition-using-intrasubject-and-intersubject-evaluations" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/149564.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">142</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">61</span> Using Surface Entropy Reduction to Improve the Crystallization Properties of a Recombinant Antibody Fragment RNA Crystallization Chaperone</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christina%20Roman">Christina Roman</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Deepak%20Koirala"> Deepak Koirala</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Joseph%20A.%20Piccirilli"> Joseph A. These Fabs have been demonstrated to facilitate RNA crystallization. However, the antibody framework used in the construction of these phage display libraries contains numerous bulky, flexible, and charged residues, which facilitate solubility and hinder aggregation. These residues can interfere with crystallization due to the entropic cost associated with burying them within crystal contacts. To systematically reduce the surface entropy of the Fabs and improve their crystallization properties, a protein engineering strategy termed surface entropy reduction (SER) is being applied to the Fab framework. In this approach, high entropy residues are mutated to smaller ones such as alanine or serine. Focusing initially on Fab BL3-6, which binds an RNA AAACA pentaloop with 20nM affinity, the SER P server (http://services.mbi.ucla.edu/SER/) was used and analysis was performed on existing RNA-Fab BL3-6 co-crystal structures. From this analysis twelve surface entropy reduced mutants were designed. These SER mutants were expressed and are now being measured for their crystallization and diffraction performance with various RNA targets. So far, one mutant has generated 3.02 angstrom diffraction with the yjdF riboswitch RNA. Ultimately, the most productive mutations will be combined into a new Fab framework to be used in a optimized phage displayed Fab library. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=antibody%20fragment" title="antibody fragment">antibody fragment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=crystallography" title=" crystallography"> crystallography</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=RNA" title=" RNA"> RNA</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=surface%20entropy%20reduction" title=" surface entropy reduction"> surface entropy reduction</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/104332/using-surface-entropy-reduction-to-improve-the-crystallization-properties-of-a-recombinant-antibody-fragment-rna-crystallization-chaperone" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/104332.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">193</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">60</span> Concept for Determining the Focus of Technology Monitoring Activities</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Guenther%20Schuh">Guenther Schuh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christina%20Koenig"> Christina Koenig</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nico%20Schoen"> Nico Schoen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Markus%20Wellensiek"> Markus Wellensiek</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Identification and selection of appropriate product and manufacturing technologies are key factors for competitiveness and market success of technology-based companies. Therefore many companies perform technology intelligence (TI) activities to ensure the identification of evolving technologies at the right time. Technology monitoring is one of the three base activities of TI, besides scanning and scouting. As the technological progress is accelerating, more and more technologies are being developed. Against the background of limited resources it is therefore necessary to focus TI activities. In this paper, we propose a concept for defining appropriate search fields for technology monitoring. This limitation of search space leads to more concentrated monitoring activities. The concept will be introduced and demonstrated through an anonymized case study conducted within an industry project at the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology. The described concept provides a customized monitoring approach, which is suitable for use in technology-oriented companies especially those that have not yet defined an explicit technology strategy. It is shown in this paper that the definition of search fields and search tasks are suitable methods to define topics of interest and thus to direct monitoring activities. Current as well as planned product, production and material technologies as well as existing skills, capabilities and resources form the basis of the described derivation of relevant search areas. To further improve the concept of technology monitoring the proposed concept should be extended during future research e.g. by the definition of relevant monitoring parameters. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=monitoring%20radar" title="monitoring radar">monitoring radar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=search%20field" title=" search field"> search field</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=technology%20intelligence" title=" technology intelligence"> technology intelligence</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=technology%20monitoring" title=" technology monitoring"> technology monitoring</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/16554/concept-for-determining-the-focus-of-technology-monitoring-activities" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/16554.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">474</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">59</span> The Impact of Information and Communication Technology on Bilateral Trade in Goods</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christina%20Tay">Christina Tay</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper investigates the impact of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) on bilateral trade in goods. For every 10% increase in fixed broadband Internet subscribers per 100 people increases, goods trade by 7.9% and for every 5% increase in fixed broadband Internet subscribers per 100 people, goods export increases by 11%. For every 1% increase in fixed telephone line penetration per 100 people, goods trade increases by 26.3%, goods export increases by 24.4% and goods import increases by 24.8%. For every 1% increase in mobile-cellular telephone subscriptions, goods trade decreases by 29.6% and goods export decreases by 27.1%, whilst for every 0.01% increase in mobile-cellular telephone subscriptions, goods import decreases by 34.3%. For every 1% increase in the percentage of population who used the Internet from any location in the last 12 months Internet, goods trade increases by 32.5%, goods export increases by 38.9%, goods import increases by 33%. The aim of this study was to develop a Food Insecurity Neighborhood Index (FINI) based on the associated socioeconomic and demographic variables to identify the areas at potential risk of food insecurity in rural British Columbia (BC). Principle Component Analysis (PCA) technique was used to calculate the FINI for each rural Dissemination Area (DA) using the food security determinant variables from Canadian Census data. Using ArcGIS, the neighborhoods with the top quartile FINI values were classified as food insecure. The results of this study indicated that the most food insecure neighborhood with the highest FINI value of 99.1 was in the Bulkley-Nechako (central BC) area whereas the lowest FINI with the value of 2.97 was for a rural neighborhood in the Cowichan Valley area. In total, 98.049 (19%) of the rural population of British Columbians reside in high food insecure areas. Moreover, the distribution of food insecure neighborhoods was found to be strongly dependent on the degree of rurality in BC. In conclusion, the cluster of food insecure neighbourhoods was more pronounced in Central Coast, Mount Wadington, Peace River, Kootenay Boundary, and the Alberni-Clayoqout Regional Districts. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=neighborhood%20food%20insecurity%20index" title="neighborhood food insecurity index">neighborhood food insecurity index</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=socioeconomic%20and%20demographic%20determinants" title=" socioeconomic and demographic determinants"> socioeconomic and demographic determinants</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=principal%20component%20analysis" title=" principal component analysis"> principal component analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Canada%20census" title=" Canada census"> Canada census</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ArcGIS" title=" ArcGIS"> ArcGIS</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/96068/identifying-neighborhoods-at-potential-risk-of-food-insecurity-in-rural-british-columbia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/96068.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">169</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">57</span> Removal and/or Recovery of Phosphates by Precipitation as Ferric Phosphate from the Effluent of a Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kyriaki%20Kalaitzidou">Kyriaki Kalaitzidou</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Athanasia%20Tolkou"> Athanasia Tolkou</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christina%20Raptopoulou"> Christina Raptopoulou</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Manassis%20Mitrakas"> Manassis Mitrakas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anastasios%20Zouboulis"> Anastasios Zouboulis</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Phosphate rock is the main source of phosphorous (P) in fertilizers and is essential for high crop yield in agriculture; currently, it is considered as a critical element, phasing scarcity. Chemical precipitation, which is a commonly used method of phosphorous removal from wastewaters, finds its significance in that phosphates may be precipitated in appropriate chemical forms that can be reused-recovered. Most often phosphorous is removed from wastewaters in the form of insoluble phosphate salts, by using salts (coagulants) of multivalent metal ions, most frequently iron, aluminum, calcium, or magnesium. The removal degree is affected by various factors, such as pH, chemical agent dose, temperature, etc. In this study, phosphate precipitation from the secondary (biologically treated) effluent of a municipal wastewater treatment plant is examined. Using chlorosulfate (FeClSO4) it was attempted to either remove and/or recover PO43-. Results showed that the use of Fe3+ can achieve residual concentrations lower than the commonly applied legislation limit of PO43- (i.e. 3 mg PO43-/L) by adding 7.5 mg/L Fe3+ in the secondary effluent with an initial concentration of about 10 mg PO43-/L and at pH range between 6 to 9. In addition, the formed sediment has a percentage of almost 24% PO43- content. Therefore, simultaneous removal and recovery of PO43- as ferric phosphate can be achieved, making it possible for the ferric phosphate to be re-used as a possible (secondary) fertilizer source. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ferric%20phosphate" title="ferric phosphate">ferric phosphate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=phosphorus%20recovery" title=" phosphorus recovery"> phosphorus recovery</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=phosphorus%20removal" title=" phosphorus removal"> phosphorus removal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wastewater%20treatment" title=" wastewater treatment"> wastewater treatment</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23640/removal-andor-recovery-of-phosphates-by-precipitation-as-ferric-phosphate-from-the-effluent-of-a-municipal-wastewater-treatment-plant" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23640.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">484</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">56</span> The Connection between Required Safe Egress Time and Occupant Fire Safety Training</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christina%20Knorr">Christina Knorr</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Analysis of the evacuation of occupants of a building plays a significant role in Fire Safety Engineering. One of the tools used for the analysis is the concept of the Required Safe Egress Time (RSET). It is generally accepted that RSET is measured from the time the fire ignites until the time that all occupants have evacuated to a safe location. Instructions on how RSET is determined can be found in both the International Fire Engineering Guidelines and, more recently, in the Australian Fire Engineering Guidelines. The guidelines also specify measures that could be applied to reduce the RSET and hence improve the performance of fire-safety measures of a building. Further, it is suggested that the delay period can be reduced through “training programs.” This study examined the overall level of fire-safety awareness among occupants of residential apartment buildings in Australia and investigated the possible effects of fire-safety training on the delay period and, hence, the RSET. A questionnaire, interviews, and an experiment were conducted to collect data about people’s fire-safety knowledge, people’s behaviour and nature, and the duration of activities people are likely to undertake in the event of a fire. The study led to an investigation into the delay and response time approximations and the development of a new equation to incorporate the impact of training into the RSET calculations for the general use of the fire engineering community. Regardless of the RSET, it can be concluded that fire-safety education and training for residents of apartment buildings have a direct impact on improving their behaviour and firefighting equipment usage in a fire incident. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fire%20safety%20engineering" title="fire safety engineering">fire safety engineering</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fire%20safety%20training" title=" fire safety training"> fire safety training</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=occupant%20evacuation%20behaviour" title=" occupant evacuation behaviour"> occupant evacuation behaviour</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=required%20safe%20egress%20time" title=" required safe egress time"> required safe egress time</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/177752/the-connection-between-required-safe-egress-time-and-occupant-fire-safety-training" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/177752.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">38</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">55</span> Disseminated Tuberculosis: Experience from Tuberculosis Directly Observed Treatment Short Course Center at a Tertiary Care Teaching Hospital in the Philippines</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jamie%20R.%20Chua">Jamie R. Over the five year period included in the study, the UP-PGH TB DOTS clinic had total of 3,967 referrals, and the prevalence of disseminated tuberculosis is 1% (68/3967). The mean age was 33.9 years (range 19-64 years) with a male: female ratio of 1:1. 67% (52 patients) had no predisposing comorbid illness or immune disorder. The most common presenting symptoms were abdominal pain (19%), back pain (13%), abdominal enlargement (11%) and mass (10.2%). Anemia, leukocytosis, hypoalbuminemia, and high-normal serum calcium were common biochemical and hematologic findings. Around 36% (25) of patients were diagnosed clinically with disseminated tuberculosis despite lacking bacteriologic evidence of multi-organ involvement. The lungs (86%) is still the most commonly involved site, followed by intestinal (22%), vertebral/Pott’s (27%), and pelvic/genital (19%). The mean time from presentation to initiation of therapy was 22 days (SD 32.7). Only 18 patients (29.3%) were properly recorded to have been referred to local TB DOTs facilities. Of the 68 patients, only 16% (11 patients) continued follow-up at PGH, and all had documented treatment completion. Treatment outcomes of the remaining were unknown. Due to the variety of involved sites, a high index of suspicion is required. Knowledge on clinical features, common radiographic findings, and histopathologic characteristics of disseminated TB is important as bacteriologic evidence of infection is not always apparent. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=disseminated%20tuberculosis" title="disseminated tuberculosis">disseminated tuberculosis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mycobacterium%20tuberculosis" title=" Mycobacterium tuberculosis"> Mycobacterium tuberculosis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=miliary%20tuberculosis" title=" miliary tuberculosis"> miliary tuberculosis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tuberculosis" title=" tuberculosis"> tuberculosis</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/77513/disseminated-tuberculosis-experience-from-tuberculosis-directly-observed-treatment-short-course-center-at-a-tertiary-care-teaching-hospital-in-the-philippines" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/77513.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">240</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">54</span> Action Research through Drama in Education on Adolescents’ Career Self-Efficacy and Decision-Making Skills Development</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christina%20Zourna">Christina Zourna</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ioanna%20Papavassiliou-Alexiou"> Ioanna Papavassiliou-Alexiou</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The purpose of this multi-phased action research PhD study in Greece was to investigate if and how Drama in Education (DiE) – used as an innovative group counselling method – may have positive effects on secondary education students’career self-efficacy and career decision-making skills development. Using both quantitative and qualitative research tools, high quality data were gathered at various stages of the research and were analysed through multivariate methods and open-source computer aided data analysis software such as R Studio, QualCoder, and SPSS packages. After a five-month-long educational intervention based on DiE method, it was found that 9th, 10th, and 11th gradersameliorated their self-efficacy and learned the process of making an informed career decision – through targeted information gathering about themselves and possible study paths – thus, developing career problem-solving and career management skills. Gender differences were non statistically important, while differences in grades showed a minor influence on some of the measured factorssuch as general career indecisiveness and self-evaluation. Students in the 11th grade scored significantly higher than younger students in the career self-efficacy scale and have stronger faith in their abilities e.g., choosing general over vocational school and major study orientation. The study has shown that DiE can be effective in group career guidance, especially concerning the pillars of self-awareness, self-efficacy, and career decision-making processes. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=career%20decision-making%20skills" title="career decision-making skills">career decision-making skills</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=career%20self-efficacy" title=" career self-efficacy"> career self-efficacy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CDDQ%20scale" title=" CDDQ scale"> CDDQ scale</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CDMSE-SF%20scale" title=" CDMSE-SF scale"> CDMSE-SF scale</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=drama%20in%20education%20method" title=" drama in education method"> drama in education method</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/152017/action-research-through-drama-in-education-on-adolescents-career-self-efficacy-and-decision-making-skills-development" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/152017.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">123</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">53</span> Effect of Relaxation Techniques in Reducing Stress Level among Mothers of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=R.%20N.%20Jay%20A.%20Ablog">R. Aim: To investigate the effectiveness of 4-week relaxation techniques in stress level reduction of mothers of children with ASD. Methods: Quasi experimental design. It included 25 mothers (10-experimental, 15-control) who were chosen via purposive sampling. The mothers were recruited in the different SPED centers in Baguio City and La Trinidad and in the community. Statistics used were T-test and Related T-Test. Results: The overall weighted mean score after 4-week training is 2.3, indicating that the relaxation techniques introduced were moderately effective in lowering stress level. Statistical analysis (T-test; CV=4.51>TV=2.26) shown a significant difference in the stress level reduction of mothers in the experimental group pre and post interventions. There is also a significant difference in the stress level reduction in the control and the experimental group (Related T-test; CV=2.08 >TV=2.07). The relaxation techniques introduced were favorable, cost-effective, and easy to perform interventions to decrease stress level. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
