See<MG2396> how<MG4214> many<MG4214> charges<MG2723> they are bringing<MG2723> against<MG2723> You!” <a href="/mark/15-5.htm">5</a>But Jesus<MG2424> said<MG611> nothing<MG3762> further<MG3765> in<MG611> answer<MG611>, so<MG5620> Pilate<MG4091> was<MG2296> amazed<MG2296>. <a href="/mark/15-6.htm">6</a>Now<MG1161> at the Passover Feast<MG1859> he used to release<MG630> for them any one<MG1520> prisoner<MG1198> whom<MG3739> they requested<MG3868>. <a href="/mark/15-7.htm">7</a>And the one named<MG3004> Barabbas<MG912> had been<MG1510> imprisoned<MG1210> with the rebels<MG4714a> who<MG3748> had committed<MG4160> murder<MG5408> in the revolt<MG4714b>. <a href="/mark/15-8.htm">8</a>And the crowd<MG3793> went<MG305> up<MG305> and began<MG757> asking<MG154> Pilate to do as he had been accustomed to do<MG4160> for them. <a href="/mark/15-9.htm">9</a>Pilate<MG4091> answered<MG611> them, saying<MG3004>, “Do you want<MG2309> me to release<MG630> for you the King<MG935> of the Jews<MG2453>?” <a href="/mark/15-10.htm">10</a>For he was aware<MG1097> that the chief<MG749> priests<MG749> had handed<MG3860> Him over<MG3860> because<MG1223> of envy<MG5355>. <a href="/mark/15-11.htm">11</a>But the chief<MG749> priests<MG749> stirred<MG383> up<MG383> the crowd<MG3793> to ask him to release<MG630> Barabbas<MG912> for them instead<MG3123>. <a href="/mark/15-12.htm">12</a>And responding<MG611> again<MG3825>, Pilate<MG4091> said<MG3004> to them, “Then<MG3767> what<MG5101> shall I do<MG4160> with Him whom<MG3739> you call<MG3004> the King<MG935> of the Jews<MG2453>?” <a href="/mark/15-13.htm">13</a>They shouted<MG2896> <a href="#fn">[c]</a>back<MG3825>, “Crucify<MG4717> Him!” <a href="/mark/15-14.htm">14</a>But Pilate<MG4091> said<MG3004> to them, “Why<MG1063>, what<MG5101> <a href="#fn">[d]</a>evil<MG2556> has He done<MG4160>?” But they shouted<MG2896> all<MG4057> the<MG4057> more<MG4057>, “Crucify<MG4717> Him!” <a href="/mark/15-15.htm">15</a>Intent<MG1014> on satisfying<MG4160, 2425> the crowd<MG3793>, Pilate<MG4091> released<MG630> Barabbas<MG912> for them, and after having Jesus<MG2424> flogged<MG5417>, he handed<MG3860> Him over<MG3860> to be crucified<MG4717>. Jesus Is Mocked<a href="/mark/15-16.htm">16</a>Now<MG1161> the soldiers<MG4757> took<MG520> Him away<MG520> into the <a href="#fn">[e]</a>palace<MG833> (that is, the Praetorium<MG4232>), and they *called<MG4779> together<MG4779> the whole<MG3650> Roman <a href="#fn">[f]</a>cohort<MG4686>. <a href="/mark/15-17.htm">17</a>And they *dressed<MG1737> Him in <a href="#fn">[g]</a>purple<MG4209>, and after twisting<MG4120> together<MG4120> a crown<MG4735> of thorns<MG174>, they put<MG4060> it on Him; <a href="/mark/15-18.htm">18</a>and they began<MG757> saluting<MG782> Him: “Hail<MG5463>, King<MG935> of the Jews<MG2453>!” <a href="/mark/15-19.htm">19</a>And they repeatedly beat<MG5180> His head<MG2776> with a <a href="#fn">[h]</a>reed<MG2563> and spit<MG1716> on<MG1716> Him, and kneeling<MG1119, 5087>, they bowed<MG4352> down<MG4352> before<MG4352> Him. <a href="/mark/15-20.htm">20</a>And after<MG3753> they had mocked<MG1702> Him, they took<MG1562> the <a href="#fn">[i]</a>purple<MG4209> cloak off<MG1562> Him and put<MG1746a> His own garments<MG2440> on Him. And they *led<MG1806> Him out<MG1806> to crucify<MG4717> Him. <a href="/mark/15-21.htm">21</a>And they *compelled<MG29> a passer-by<MG3855> coming<MG2064> from the country<MG68>, Simon<MG4613> of<MG2956> Cyrene<MG2956> (the father<MG3962> of Alexander<MG223> and Rufus<MG4504>), to carry<MG142> His cross<MG4716>. The Crucifixion<a href="/mark/15-22.htm">22</a>Then<MG2532> they *brought<MG5342> Him to the place<MG5117> Golgotha<MG1115>, which<MG3739> is translated<MG3177>, Place<MG5117> of a Skull<MG2898>. <a href="/mark/15-23.htm">23</a>And they tried to give<MG1325> Him wine<MG3631> mixed<MG4669> with<MG4669> myrrh<MG4669>; but He did not take<MG2983> it. <a href="/mark/15-24.htm">24</a>And they *crucified<MG4717> Him, and *divided<MG1266> up<MG1266> His garments<MG2440> among<MG1266> themselves, casting<MG906> <a href="#fn">[j]</a>lots<MG2819> for them to decide <a href="#fn">[k]</a>what<MG5101> each<MG5101> man<MG5101> would take<MG142>. <a href="/mark/15-25.htm">25</a>Now<MG1161> it was the <a href="#fn">[l]</a>third<MG5154> hour<MG5610> <a href="#fn">[m]</a>when<MG2532> they crucified<MG4717> Him. <a href="/mark/15-26.htm">26</a>The inscription<MG1923> of the charge<MG156> against Him <a href="#fn">[n]</a>read<MG1924>, “THE KING<MG935> OF THE JEWS<MG2453>.” <a href="/mark/15-27.htm">27</a>And they *crucified<MG4717> two<MG1417> <a href="#fn">[o]</a>rebels<MG3027> with Him, one<MG1520> on His right<MG1188> and one<MG1520> on His left<MG2176>.<a href="#fn">[p]</a> <a href="/mark/15-29.htm">29</a>Those<MG3588> passing<MG3899> by were <a href="#fn">[q]</a>hurling<MG987> abuse<MG987> at Him, shaking<MG2795> their heads<MG2776> and saying<MG3004>, “Ha<MG3758>! You who are going to destroy<MG2647> the temple<MG3485> and rebuild<MG3618> it in three<MG5140> days<MG2250>, <a href="/mark/15-30.htm">30</a>save<MG4982> Yourself<MG4572> by coming<MG2597> down<MG2597> from the cross<MG4716>!” <a href="/mark/15-31.htm">31</a>In the same<MG3668> way<MG3668> the chief<MG749> priests<MG749> also<MG2532>, along with the scribes<MG1122>, were mocking<MG1702> Him among<MG4314> themselves<MG240> and saying<MG3004>, “He saved<MG4982> others<MG243>; <a href="#fn">[r]</a>He cannot<MG1410, 3756> save<MG4982> Himself<MG1438>! <a href="/mark/15-32.htm">32</a>Let this Christ<MG5547>, the King<MG935> of Israel<MG2474>, come<MG2597> down<MG2597> now<MG3568> from the cross<MG4716>, so<MG2443> that<MG2443> we may see<MG3708> and believe<MG4100>!” Those<MG3588> who were crucified<MG4957> with Him were also<MG2532> insulting<MG3679> Him. <a href="/mark/15-33.htm">33</a>When the <a href="#fn">[s]</a>sixth<MG1623> hour<MG5610> came<MG1096>, darkness<MG4655> <a href="#fn">[t]</a>fell<MG1096> over<MG1909> the whole<MG3650> land<MG1093> until<MG2193> the <a href="#fn">[u]</a>ninth<MG1729a> hour<MG5610>. <a href="/mark/15-34.htm">34</a>At the <a href="#fn">[v]</a>ninth<MG1729a> hour<MG5610> Jesus<MG2424> cried<MG994> out<MG994> with a loud<MG3173> voice<MG5456>, “ELOI<MG1682>, ELOI<MG1682>, LEMA<MG2982> SABAKTANEI<MG4518>?” which<MG3739> is translated<MG3177>, “MY GOD<MG2316>, MY GOD<MG2316>, WHY<MG1519, 5101> HAVE YOU FORSAKEN<MG1459> ME?” <a href="/mark/15-35.htm">35</a>And when some<MG5100> of the bystanders<MG3936> heard<MG191> Him, they began saying<MG3004>, “Look<MG2396>! He is calling<MG5455> for Elijah<MG2243>!” <a href="/mark/15-36.htm">36</a>And someone<MG5100> ran<MG5143> and filled<MG1072> a sponge<MG4699> with sour<MG3690> wine<MG3690>, put<MG4060> it on a reed<MG2563>, and gave<MG4222> Him a<MG4222> drink<MG4222>, saying<MG3004>, “<a href="#fn">[w]</a>Let<MG863> us see<MG3708> if<MG1487> Elijah<MG2243> comes<MG2064> to take<MG2507> Him down<MG2507>.” <a href="/mark/15-37.htm">37</a>But Jesus<MG2424> let<MG863> out<MG863> a loud<MG3173> cry<MG5456>, and <a href="#fn">[x]</a>died<MG1606>. <a href="/mark/15-38.htm">38</a>And the veil<MG2665> of the temple<MG3485> was torn<MG4977> in two<MG1417> from top<MG509> to bottom<MG2736>. <a href="/mark/15-39.htm">39</a>And when the centurion<MG2760>, who was standing<MG3936> <a href="#fn">[y]</a>right<MG1727> in<MG1727> front<MG1727> of Him, saw<MG3708> that He <a href="#fn">[z]</a>died<MG1606> in<MG3779> this<MG3779> way<MG3779>, he said<MG3004>, “Truly<MG230> this<MG3778> man<MG444> was <a href="#fn">[aa]</a>the Son<MG5207> of God<MG2316>!” <a href="/mark/15-40.htm">40</a>Now<MG1161> there were also<MG2532> some women<MG1135> watching<MG2334> from a distance<MG3113>, among<MG1722> whom<MG3739> were Mary<MG3137> Magdalene<MG3094>, Mary<MG3137> the mother<MG3384> of <a href="#fn">[ab]</a>James<MG2385> the <a href="#fn">[ac]</a>Less<MG3398> and Joses<MG2500>, and Salome<MG4539>. <a href="/mark/15-41.htm">41</a>When<MG3753> He was in Galilee<MG1056>, they used to follow<MG190> Him and serve<MG1247> Him; and there were many<MG4183> other<MG243> women<MG243> who came<MG4872> up with Him to Jerusalem<MG2414>.
