This introduction is common in prophetic literature, underscoring that the message is not from the prophet's own mind but from God Himself. It reflects the consistent biblical theme of God communicating with His people through chosen messengers. The phrase also highlights God's sovereignty and His specific relationship with Israel, reminding the audience of the covenant established with the patriarchs and reaffirmed through Moses.
Write in a book:
The instruction to write signifies the importance and permanence of the message. In ancient times, writing was a means to preserve significant communications, ensuring they could be referenced by future generations. This command indicates that the message is not just for the immediate audience but for posterity. The use of a book suggests a formal and enduring record, akin to legal documentation. This practice is seen elsewhere in Scripture, such as when Moses is instructed to write down the law (Exodus 34:27) and when John is told to write the visions in Revelation (Revelation 1:11).
All the words that I have spoken to you:
This phrase emphasizes the completeness and accuracy required in recording God's message. The prophet is not to alter, omit, or add to the words given by God, reflecting the biblical principle of the inerrancy and sufficiency of Scripture. It underscores the importance of fidelity to God's revelation, a theme echoed in Deuteronomy 4:2 and Revelation 22:18-19, where the integrity of God's word is paramount. This also highlights the role of the prophet as a faithful transmitter of divine revelation, ensuring that the message remains untainted by human interpretation or error.
Persons / Places / Events
1. The LORD (Yahweh)
The covenant God of Israel, who is speaking to Jeremiah, emphasizing His authority and the importance of His message.

2. Jeremiah
A prophet chosen by God to deliver His messages to the people of Judah and Israel. There is no definite point at which we may be certain that the section ends, and there is room for many conjectures as to interpolations here and there, but the opening of Jeremiah 32 suggests the conclusion that it takes in the whole of Jeremiah 30, 31. The general character of the prophecy, probably in part consequent on the acceptance of the prophet's teaching by the exiles of Babylon, is one of blessing and restoration, and he is thus led on to the great utterance which, from one point of view, makes him more the prophet of the Gospel even than Isaiah. It is here that we find that promise of a New Covenant (Jeremiah 31:31) which both as a word and a fact has been prominent in the history of Christendom.

Pulpit Commentary
Verse 2. - Write thee all the words... in a book. The form of expression leaves it doubtful whether a summary of all Jeremiah's previous discourses is intended, or merely of the promises concerning Israel and Judah which he had just received. There are, no doubt, numerous allusions to preceding chapters, but ver. 5 seems rather to favour the latter view. The word rendered "book" will equally suit a short discourse like the present (comp. Jeremiah 51:60) and a large collection of prophecies as in Jeremiah 36:2. Observe, the discourse was to be written down at once, without having been delivered orally; it was to be laid up as a pledge that God would interpose for his people (comp. Isaiah 30:8; Habakkuk 2:2, 3).

Parallel Commentaries ...

Hebrew
“This is what
כֹּֽה־ (kōh-)
Adverb
Strong's 3541: Like this, thus, here, now

the LORD,
יְהוָ֛ה (Yah·weh)
Noun -
