The contact with relatives and friends who play guitar had influence over their choice and development of learning. To elaborate the proposal of the rehearsal-lesson, the musical development of students from four bands was analyzed in activities involving composition, music appreciation and performance, using as a theoretical reference The Spiral Theory of Musical Development (Swanwick, 1988, from Swanwick and Tillman, 1986). The performance of four bandmasters during three rehearsal was also analyzed, with the intention of understanding how much and in what level they use the parameters proposed by Swanwick (1979), through the C(L)A(S)P model, that besides the activities directly involved with music, such as composition, musical appreciation and performance practices, also present activities that involve music indirectly – musical literature and technique. Thus we arrive to the conclusion that the bandmasters’ rehearsals emphasized only the activities involving performance and technique, consequently leaving the music appreciation activities lacking attention. Composition activities were also not explored systematically by the bandmasters, although parallel activities contributed to a better development of the students in this parameter. Rodrigues</a></div><p class="ds-related-work--metadata ds2-5-body-xs">Proceedings of the International Society for Music Education 34th World Conference on Music Education, 2020</p><p class="ds-related-work--abstract ds2-5-body-sm">This text is a summary of the doctoral research in which non-formal learning processes and informal music learning practices were discussed at the music workshop of the Brazilian federal project PIBID of The Minas Gerais State University/Brazil in a public school of Belo Horizonte city, in 2014. The applicability and adaptation of these approaches in the Brazilian public school context was investigated, besides the possibility of being used as instruments to stimulate the processes of music practice, teaching and learning. Using the qualitative research methodology and data collection from observations, questionnaires, interviews and videos recorded, it was possible to raise the opinions and conceptions of the participants, five project scholars and twenty students of the school, about the activities. The workshop provided an interaction between the students which facilitated a sharing of strategies, information and music learning. It is qualitative research with the phenomenological approach. It was conducted in the final round of the open category of the 2018 Valerio International Guitar Festival. The informants in this study include the finalists, judges, and organizers. The data were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation studies. The research findings show that the music learning process among the finalists of the 2018 Valerio International Guitar Festival is carried out through lectures (formal), courses (non-formal), and community (non-formal). The reason for this dating lies on the fact that in 2006 a process was started for the insertion of music in schools, through Bill No. 330, culminating in Law No. 11.769/2008, which provides for the obligation of music teaching in basic education. Subsequently, Resolution No. 2 consolidated this obligation. From then on, there was an increase in scientific production in Music Education in Brazil. Thus, this research came from the questions: What subjects have been investigated in Music Education in Brazil in the last twelve years? What methodologies were used in these surveys? What are the theoretical references that underlie these investigations? What is the impact of these research studies on the Brazilian scientific scenario? Based on these questions, this research aimed to investigate the state of the art of musical education in Brazil in the last twelve years. The methodological design of the research was developed from data collection via the Internet, and data analysis was based on the use of content analysis. Often the only point of musical access, they provide free instrumental teaching for thousands of people who cannot afford to pay. One challenge that needs to be continually addressed is the issue of attrition, especially during the first stages of instruction. Considering this issue, this paper presents a pedagogical approach which concentrates on music-making through collective instruction. Methods: a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory study, developed with 10 group coordinators, distributed in five basic care units in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Data were collected from March to July, 2009, with non participant observation in the group itself, and semi-structured interviews with the coordinators. Information was organized and categorized according to thematic analysis. To interpret the data, the Snyderian concepts in addition to theoretical references about music, communication and health education were used. Results: three thematic nuclei were found: the affective dimension of music; recreative dimension of music and the reflexive dimension of music. Conclusion: an attempt by the coordinators was observed, to overcome the pathological barriers with the use of music, considering the group as a whole. Despite the fact that it struggles to assert its Western identity, it is a mestiço (i.e., mixed race) country with diverse influences (African, European, Amerindian), immense cultural differences across regions, and singular musical manifestations. In addition, its history of music education has been one of segregation by gender, religion and socioeconomic status. Therefore, only a few children have learned music formally (i.e., through regular schooling or conservatory training), with much musical development happening informally, that is, through traditional practices. This preliminary study refers to an on-going project that intends to map musical practices across the country, in order to understand how children develop musically.
