Apostles Apostles are often seen as pioneers or foundational leaders within the Church. The term "apostle" means "one who is sent out," and in the New Testament, it primarily refers to the original twelve disciples of Jesus, as well as Paul, who was called to be an apostle to the Gentiles. Apostles are tasked with establishing churches, providing spiritual oversight, and ensuring doctrinal purity.
