Wu:</span></p> <p style="margin: 0;"><br></p> <p style="margin: 0;">As we enter the final months of the 2023-2024 academic year, I wish to take the opportunity to reflect on the ways in which global events have impacted Queens College and to remind our entire educational community of the rules that apply to campus events and our conduct.</p> <p style="margin: 0;"><br></p> <p style="margin: 0;">On multiple occasions over the years, I have stressed the status of Queens College as a public institution and the commitment the constitution demands that we uphold the rights of free speech, expression, and assembly. The college is committed to remaining a space where free speech flourishes and a place where the viewpoints and experiences are as diverse as the community and the borough we call home. </p> <p style="margin: 0;"><br></p> <p style="margin: 0;">However, the rights of free speech are not limitless. The college will not tolerate conduct that violates the law or CUNY policy. It is essential that all members of our community familiarize themselves with and abide by the rules that are designed to uphold civility and maintain a safe environment, both in and out of the classroom. Members of our campus community are expected to show respect to one another at all times. </p> <p style="margin: 0;"><br></p> <p style="margin: 0;">Queens College has a long and proud history of activism. The college has been, and will no doubt continue to be, the site of demonstrations and counterprotests. While we welcome this, the college will take action when college operations, both educational and physical, are improperly disrupted. Members of our community are reminded that intentionally obstructing and/or forcibly preventing others from exercising their rights is prohibited.
