Jesus answered, <FR>Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye would have known my Father also.<Fr> <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>These words spake Jesus in the treasury, when He was teaching in the temple: and no one laid hands on Him, for his hour was not yet come.<p> <A name="22"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>Jesus therefore said unto them again, <FR>"I am going away, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sin: where I go ye cannot come."<Fr> <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>The Jews therefore said, What! will He kill himself; that He says, <FR>where I am going, ye cannot come?<Fr> <A name="24"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>And He said unto them, <FR>Ye are from beneath, I am from above: ye are of this world, I am not of this world.<Fr> <A name="25"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span><FR>Therefore I said unto you, that ye shall die in your sins; for if ye believe not that I am <Fr><i>the Messiah,</i><FR> ye shall die in your sins.<Fr> <A name="26"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>Then said they to Him, Who art thou? And Jesus answered them, <FR>Even <Fr><i>the same</i><FR> that I told you at first.<Fr> <A name="27"></a><span class="red"><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span><FR>I have many things to say and to judge concerning you: but <Fr><i>I only say,</i><FR> He that sent me is true, and I declare to the world those <Fr><i>things,</i><FR> which I have heard from Him.<Fr> <A name="28"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span><i>But</i> they did not know that He spake unto them <i>of</i> the Father. <A name="29"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Jesus therefore said unto them, <FR>When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then ye shall know that I am <Fr><i>He,</i><FR> and <Fr><i>that</i><FR> I do nothing of myself, but as my Father hath instructed me, I speak these <Fr><i>things.</i> <A name="30"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span><FR>And He that sent me, is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I always do the things <Fr><i>that are</i><FR> pleasing to Him.<Fr> <A name="31"></a><p class="hdg">The Truth Will Set You Free<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../2_john/1.htm#4">2 John 1:4–6</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>As He spake these <i>words</i> many believed on Him.<p> <A name="32"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>Therefore said Jesus to the Jews that believed on Him, <FR>If ye continue in my word, ye are indeed my disciples.<Fr> <A name="33"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span><FR>And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.<Fr> <A name="34"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>They answered Him, We are the seed of Abraham, and never were slaves to any one, how <i>then</i> dost thou say, <FR>Ye shall be made free?<Fr><p> <A name="35"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>Jesus answered them, <FR>Verily, verily I say unto you, whosoever maketh a practice of sin, is the servant of sin.<Fr> <A name="36"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span><FR>Now the servant does not continue always in the family: but the Son abideth always.<Fr> <A name="37"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span><FR>If therefore the Son make you free, ye shall be free indeed.<Fr> <A name="38"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span><FR>I know that ye are the seed of Abraham, but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.<Fr> <A name="39"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span><FR>I speak <Fr><i>that</i><FR> which I have seen with my Father, and ye do what ye have seen with your father.<Fr><p> <A name="40"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-39.htm"><b>39</b></a></span>They answered Him, Abraham is our father, Jesus replied, <FR>If ye were the children of Abraham, ye would do the works of Abraham:<Fr> <A name="41"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-40.htm"><b>40</b></a></span><FR>but now ye seek to kill me, who have told you the truth which I have heard from God: Abraham did not thus.<Fr> <A name="42"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-41.htm"><b>41</b></a></span><i>But</i><FR> ye do the works of your father.<Fr> Then said they unto Him, We are not born of fornication, we have one Father, <i>even</i> God.<p> <A name="43"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-42.htm"><b>42</b></a></span>Jesus said unto them, <FR>If God were your father, ye would love me: for I came forth, and do come, from God; neither came I of myself, but He sent me.<Fr> <A name="44"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-43.htm"><b>43</b></a></span><i>And</i><FR> why do ye not understand my language, <Fr><i>but</i><FR> because ye cannot bear my doctrine?<Fr> <A name="45"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-44.htm"><b>44</b></a></span><FR>Ye are of <Fr><i>your</i><FR> father the devil, and are bent upon doing the lusts of your father: he was a murderer from the beginning, and continued not in the truth: for there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh like himself, for he is a liar, and the father of such.<Fr> <A name="46"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-45.htm"><b>45</b></a></span><FR>And because I say the truth, ye believe me not. Do we not rightly say, that thou art a Samaritan, and art possessed by a demon? <A name="50"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-49.htm"><b>49</b></a></span>Jesus answered <FR>I am not possessed by a demon, but I honour my Father, though ye dishonour me.<Fr> <A name="51"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-50.htm"><b>50</b></a></span><FR>And I seek not my own glory; there is <Fr><i>One</i><FR> that seeketh <Fr><i>it,</i><FR> and judgeth.<Fr> <A name="52"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-51.htm"><b>51</b></a></span><FR>Verily, verily, I say unto you, If any <Fr><i>one</i><FR> keep my word, he shall never see death.<Fr> <A name="53"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-52.htm"><b>52</b></a></span>The Jews therefore said unto Him, Now we are sure that thou art possessed by a demon. Abraham is dead, and the prophets <i>too;</i> and thou sayest, <FR>If any <Fr><i>one</i><FR> keep my word, he shall never taste of death:<Fr> art thou greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? <A name="54"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-53.htm"><b>53</b></a></span>and the prophets are dead: whom dost thou pretend <i>to be?</i> <A name="55"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-54.htm"><b>54</b></a></span>Jesus answered, <FR>If I honour myself, my honor is nothing: it is my Father that glorifieth me, of whom ye say that He is your God.<Fr> <A name="56"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-55.htm"><b>55</b></a></span><FR>And <Fr><i>yet</i><FR> ye know him not; but I know Him: and if I should say, That I know Him not, I shall be like you, a liar: but I know Him, and obey his word.<Fr> <A name="57"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-56.htm"><b>56</b></a></span><FR>Your father Abraham longed to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.<Fr> <A name="58"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-57.htm"><b>57</b></a></span>Then said the Jews unto Him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? <A name="59"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-58.htm"><b>58</b></a></span>Jesus said unto them, <FR>Before Abraham was, I am.<Fr> <span class="reftext"><a href="/john/8-59.htm"><b>59</b></a></span>Therefore they took up stones to throw at Him.
