Helsinki, Finland, 9 – 13 August 2017. The World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon) is one of the most important annual gatherings of science fiction and fantasy literature enthusiasts. First held in 1939, Worldcon now attracts 3,000–10,000 members each year. In Helsinki we expect 4,000–5,000 visitors, most of whom will arrive from the USA and Great Britain, and the rest from Europe, Australia and Japan. More than 4,000 science fiction fans from all over the world have already purchased their memberships for the convention, including 1,100 Finns.</p> <p>In addition to fans, Worldcon is attended by professionals, including writers, artists, publishers, agents, journalists, and literary critics. Progress Report 5 will be published exclusively online, with direct distribution to all of our members and with a copy available on the convention’s web site.
