and, He that revileth father or mother, let him be put to death:<Fr> <A name="6"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span><FR>but ye say, If any <Fr><i>man</i><FR> say to <Fr><i>his</i><FR> father or mother, "that which thou mightest be profited by from me is a gift <Fr><i>to the temple,</i><FR>"<Fr> <A name="7"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span><FR>and <Fr><i>so</i><FR> honour not his father or his mother, <Fr><i>he shall be free.</i><FR> And <Fr><i>thus</i><FR> have ye made void the commandment of God by your tradition.<Fr> <A name="8"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span><FR>Well did Esaias prophecy concerning you,<Fr><p> <A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span><FR>saying, This people approach me with their mouth, and honour me with their lips, but their heart is far from me:<Fr><p> <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span><FR>but in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the injunctions of men.<Fr><p> <A name="11"></a><p class="hdg">What Defiles a Man<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../mark/7.htm#14">Mark 7:14–23</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>And He called the multitude to Him, and said unto them, <FR>Hear and understand <Fr><i>it:</i> <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span><FR>not that which goeth into the mouth defileth the man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this polluteth the man.<Fr><p> <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Whereupon his disciples came and said to Him, Dost thou know that the pharisees, when they heard this assertion, were offended <i>at it?</i> <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>But He answered and said, <FR>Every plantation which my heavenly Father hath not planted shall be rooted up.<Fr> <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span><FR>Regard them not; <Fr><i>for</i><FR> they are blind guides of the blind: and if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into the ditch.<Fr><p> <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>Then Peter answered, and said unto Him, Explain to us this parable. <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>And Jesus replied, <FR>Are ye also still void of understanding?<Fr> <A name="18"></a><span class="red"><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span><FR>Do ye not yet know, that whatever goeth into the mouth passeth to the belly and is discharged downwards?<Fr> <A name="19"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span><FR>But the things, which proceed out of the mouth, come from the heart, and those defile a man.<Fr> <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span><FR>For out of the heart proceed wicked disputings, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false-witnessings, slanders:<Fr> <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span><FR>these defile a man, but to eat without washing the hands doth not defile him.<Fr><p> <A name="22"></a><p class="hdg">The Faith of the Canaanite Woman<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../mark/7.htm#24">Mark 7:24–30</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>And Jesus went from thence, and retired into the parts adjacent to Tyre and Sidon. <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>And there came out of those quarters a Canaanitish woman, and cried to Him saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, <i>thou</i> son of David; for my daughter is grievously tormented by a demon. <A name="24"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>But he answered her not a word: and his disciples came and intreated Him, saying, Send her away, for she crieth <i>importunately</i> after us. <A name="25"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>But he answered and said, <FR>I am sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.<Fr> <A name="26"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>However, she came and worshipped Him, saying, Lord help me. <A name="27"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>But he answered, <FR>It is not fit to take the children's bread and throw it to dogs:<Fr> and she said, True, Lord; <A name="28"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>yet the dogs eat of the crumbs that fall from the table of their masters. <A name="29"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Then Jesus answering, said unto her, <FR>O woman, great <Fr><i>is</i><FR> thy faith: be it <Fr><i>therefore</i><FR> unto thee as thou desirest.<Fr> And her daughter was cured from that <i>very</i> hour.<p> <A name="30"></a><p class="hdg">The Feeding of the Four Thousand<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../mark/8.htm">Mark 8:1–10</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>And Jesus departed from thence, and came near to the sea of Galilee; and going up to a mountain He sat down there. <A name="31"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>And great multitudes came to Him, having with them <i>those that were</i> lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others; and laid them at the feet of Jesus, and He healed them. <A name="32"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>So that the people wondered when they saw the dumb speaking, the maimed <i>become</i> sound, the lame walking, and the blind seeing: and they glorified the God of Israel.<p> <A name="33"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>Then Jesus called his disciples to <i>Him</i> and said, <FR>I am moved with compassion to the multitude, for they have been with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: I will not let them go away fasting, least they faint in the way.<Fr> <A name="34"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>And his disciples replied, Whence can we have so much bread in <i>this</i> desert <i>place</i> as to satisfy so great a multitude? <A name="35"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>And Jesus saith unto them, <FR>How many loaves have ye?<Fr> and they said, Seven, and a few small fishes. <A name="36"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/15-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>Then He bid the people sit down on the ground;
