As a marriage of the KdV equation and the classical Burgers (KdVB) equation, the Korteweg-de Vries-Burgers (KdVB) equation is a mathematical model of waves on shallow water surfaces in the presence of viscous dissipation. Asymptotic analysis is a method of describing limiting behavior and is a key tool for exploring the differential equations which arise in the mathematical modeling of real-world phenomena. By using variable transformations, the asymptotic expansion of the KdVB equation is presented in this paper. The asymptotic expansion may provide a good gauge on the validation of the corresponding numerical scheme. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=asymptotic%20expansion" title="asymptotic expansion">asymptotic expansion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=differential%20equation" title=" differential equation"> differential equation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Korteweg-de%20Vries-Burgers%20%28KdVB%29%20equation" title=" Korteweg-de Vries-Burgers (KdVB) equation"> Korteweg-de Vries-Burgers (KdVB) equation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=soliton" title=" soliton"> soliton</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/78883/asymptotic-expansion-of-the-korteweg-de-vries-burgers-equation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/78883.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">249</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2812</span> Investigation of Stoneley Waves in Multilayered Plates</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bing%20Li">Bing Li</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tong%20Lu"> Tong Lu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lei%20Qiang"> Lei Qiang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Stoneley waves are interface waves that propagate at the interface between two solid media. In this study, the dispersion characteristics and wave structures of Stoneley waves in elastic multilayered plates are displayed and investigated. With a perspective of bulk wave, a reasonable assumption of the potential function forms of the expansion wave and shear wave in nth layer medium is adopted, and the characteristic equation of Stoneley waves in a three-layered plate is given in a determinant form. The dispersion curves and wave structures are solved and presented in both numerical and simulation results. It is observed that two Stoneley wave modes exist in a three-layered plate, that conspicuous dispersion occurs on low frequency band, that the velocity of each Stoneley wave mode approaches the corresponding Stoneley wave velocity at interface between two half infinite spaces. The wave structures reveal that the in-plane displacement of Stoneley waves are relatively high at interfaces, which shows great potential for interface defects detection. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=characteristic%20equation" title="characteristic equation">characteristic equation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=interface%20waves" title=" interface waves"> interface waves</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=potential%20function" title=" potential function"> potential function</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Stoneley%20waves" title=" Stoneley waves"> Stoneley waves</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wave%20structure" title=" wave structure"> wave structure</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/45214/investigation-of-stoneley-waves-in-multilayered-plates" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/45214.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">319</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2811</span> Computational Fluid Dynamics Simulation of Floating Body Motion Interacting with Focused Waves</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Seul-Ki%20Park">Seul-Ki Park</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jong-Chun%20Park"> Jong-Chun Park</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gyu-Mok%20Jeon"> Gyu-Mok Jeon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dae-Kyung%20Ock"> Dae-Kyung Ock</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Seung-Gyu%20Jeong"> Seung-Gyu Jeong</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Rogue waves cause frequent accidents of ships and offshore structures, which can result in severe damage to the structures. The Rogue waves, which are also known as big waves, freak waves, extreme waves, monster waves, focused waves, giant waves and abnormal waves, are unexpected and suddenly appearing, and can have a breaking force to destroy the structure even though modern structures are designed to tolerate a breaking wave. In the present study, a series of focused waves are numerically reproduced by concentrating nonlinear multi-directional waves into a target point using a commercial CFD software, Star-CCM+. A flow analysis for investigating the physical characteristics of the focused waves is performed using the Star-CCM+, while it has several difficulties to examine the inner properties of the waves in existing potential theory and experiments. Additionally, the 6-DOF (Degree of Freedom) motion of a floating body interacting with the focused waves are simulated, and the dynamic response of the body are discussed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multidirectional%20waves" title="multidirectional waves">multidirectional waves</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=focused%20waves" title=" focused waves"> focused waves</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rogue%20waves" title=" rogue waves"> rogue waves</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wave-structure%20interaction" title=" wave-structure interaction"> wave-structure interaction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=numerical%20wave%20tank" title=" numerical wave tank"> numerical wave tank</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=computational%20fluid%20dynamics" title=" computational fluid dynamics"> computational fluid dynamics</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/83771/computational-fluid-dynamics-simulation-of-floating-body-motion-interacting-with-focused-waves" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/83771.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">251</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2810</span> Shock Formation for Double Ramp Surface</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdul%20Wajid%20Ali">Abdul Wajid Ali</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Supersonic flight promises speed, but the design of the air inlet faces an obstacle: shock waves. They prevent air flow in the mixed compression ports, which reduces engine performance. Our research investigates this using supersonic wind tunnels and schlieren imaging to reveal the complex dance between shock waves and airflow. The findings show clear patterns of shock wave formation influenced by internal/external pressure surfaces. We looked at the boundary layer, the slow-moving air near the inlet walls, and its interaction with shock waves. In addition, the study emphasizes the dependence of the shock wave behaviour on the Mach number, which highlights the need for adaptive models. This knowledge is key to optimizing the combined compression inputs, paving the way for more powerful and efficient supersonic vehicles. Future engineers can use this knowledge to improve existing designs and explore innovative configurations for next-generation ultrasonic applications. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=oblique%20shock%20formation" title="oblique shock formation">oblique shock formation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=boundary%20layer%20interaction" title=" boundary layer interaction"> boundary layer interaction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=schlieren%20images" title=" schlieren images"> schlieren images</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=double%20wedge%20surface" title=" double wedge surface"> double wedge surface</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/184376/shock-formation-for-double-ramp-surface" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/184376.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">65</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2809</span> Evaluation of Suspended Particles Impact on Condensation in Expanding Flow with Aerodynamics Waves</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Piotr%20Wisniewski">Piotr Wisniewski</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=S%C5%82awomir%20Dykas"> Sławomir Dykas</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Condensation has a negative impact on turbomachinery efficiency in many energy processes. In technical applications, it is often impossible to dry the working fluid at the nozzle inlet. One of the most popular working fluid is atmospheric air that always contains water in form of steam, liquid, or ice crystals. Moreover, it always contains some amount of suspended particles which influence the phase change process. It is known that the phenomena of evaporation or condensation are connected with release or absorption of latent heat, what influence the fluid physical properties and might affect the machinery efficiency therefore, the phase transition has to be taken under account. This researchpresents an attempt to evaluate the impact of solid and liquid particles suspended in the air on the expansion of moist air in a low expansion rate, i.e., with expansion rate, P≈1000s⁻¹. The numerical study supported by analytical and experimental research is presented in this work. The experimental study was carried out using an in-house experimental test rig, where nozzle was examined for different inlet air relative humidity values included in the range of 25 to 51%. The nozzle was tested for a supersonic flow as well as for flow with shock waves induced by elevated back pressure. The Schlieren photography technique and measurement of static pressure on the nozzle wall were used for qualitative identification of both condensation and shock waves. A numerical model validated against experimental data available in the literature was used for analysis of occurring flow phenomena. The analysis of the suspended particles number, diameter, and character (solid or liquid) revealed their connection with heterogeneous condensation importance. If the expansion of fluid without suspended particlesis considered, the condensation triggers so called condensation wave that appears downstream the nozzle throat. If the solid particles are considered, with increasing number of them, the condensation triggers upwind the nozzle throat, decreasing the condensation wave strength. Due to the release of latent heat during condensation, the fluid temperature and pressure increase, leading to the shift of normal shock upstream the flow. Owing relatively large diameters of the droplets created during heterogeneous condensation, they evaporate partially on the shock and continues to evaporate downstream the nozzle. If the liquid water particles are considered, due to their larger radius, their do not affect the expanding flow significantly, however might be in major importance while considering the compression phenomena as they will tend to evaporate on the shock wave. This research proves the need of further study of phase change phenomena in supersonic flow especially considering the interaction of droplets with the aerodynamic waves in the flow. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aerodynamics" title="aerodynamics">aerodynamics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=computational%20fluid%20dynamics" title=" computational fluid dynamics"> computational fluid dynamics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=condensation" title=" condensation"> condensation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=moist%20air" title=" moist air"> moist air</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multi-phase%20flows" title=" multi-phase flows"> multi-phase flows</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/147647/evaluation-of-suspended-particles-impact-on-condensation-in-expanding-flow-with-aerodynamics-waves" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/147647.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">118</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2808</span> Energization of the Ions by EMIC Waves using MMS Observation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abid%20Ali%20Abid">Abid Ali Abid</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Electromagnetic ion cyclotron waves have been playing a significant role in inner magnetosphere, and their proton band has been detected using the Magnetospheric-Multiscale (MMS) satellite observations in the inner magnetosphere. It has been examined that the intensity of EMIC waves gradually increases by decreasing the L shell. Thermal anisotropy of hot protons initiates the waves. The low-energy cold protons (ions) can be activated by the EMIC waves when the EMIC wave intensity is high. As a result, these formerly invisible protons are now visible. The EMIC waves, whose frequency ranges from 0.001 Hz to 5 Hz in the inner magnetosphere and received considerable attention for energy transport across the magnetosphere. Since these waves act as a mechanism for the loss of energetic electrons from the Van Allen radiation belt to the atmosphere, therefore, it is necessary to understand how and where they can be produced, as well as the direction of waves along the magnetic field lines. It is demonstrated that throughout the energy range of 1 eV to 100 eV, the number density and temperature anisotropy of the protons likewise rise as the intensity of the EMIC waves increases. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electromagnetic%20ion%20cyclotron%20waves" title="electromagnetic ion cyclotron waves">electromagnetic ion cyclotron waves</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=magnetospheric-multiscale%20%28MMS%29%20satellite" title=" magnetospheric-multiscale (MMS) satellite"> magnetospheric-multiscale (MMS) satellite</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cold%20protons" title=" cold protons"> cold protons</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=inner%20magnetosphere" title=" inner magnetosphere"> inner magnetosphere</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/162109/energization-of-the-ions-by-emic-waves-using-mms-observation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/162109.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">84</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2807</span> Numerical Simulation of Supersonic Gas Jet Flows and Acoustics Fields</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lei%20Zhang">Lei Zhang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wen-jun%20Ruan"> Wen-jun Ruan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hao%20Wang"> Hao Wang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Peng-Xin%20Wang"> Peng-Xin Wang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The source of the jet noise is generated by rocket exhaust plume during rocket engine testing. The aerodynamic noise coupling is based on the splitting into acoustic sources generation and sound propagation in separate physical domains. Large Eddy Simulation (LES) is used to simulate the supersonic jet flow. Based on the simulation results of the flow-fields, the jet noise distribution of the sound pressure level is obtained by applying the Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings (FW-H) acoustics equation and Fourier transform. The calculation results show that the complex structures of expansion waves, compression waves and the turbulent boundary layer could occur due to the strong interaction between the gas jet and the ambient air. The extent of compression that a patient can easily manage depends on stage (limb size and shape) of venous disease and his activities (mobility, age). Due to dynamic mechanical influence, the socks destroy their extent of pressure exertion around the leg. The main aim of this research is to investigate how the performance of compression socks is deteriorated due to expected induced wearing mechanical impacts. Wearing mechanical impacts influence the durability parameter i.e. tensile energy loss. For tensile energy loss, cut-strip samples were interacted to constant rate of loading and un-loading, cyclic-loading upto 15th cycles for ±5mm extension (considering muscles expansion and relaxation) and were dwelled (stayed) for 3 minutes at 25%, 50% and 75% extension levels, simultaneously. Statistical validation of tensile energy loss was performed by introducing measures of correlation, p-value (≤ 0.05), R-square values using MINITAB 17 software. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=compression%20socks" title="compression socks">compression socks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=loading%20and%20unloading" title=" loading and unloading"> loading and unloading</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=15th%20cyclic%20loading" title=" 15th cyclic loading"> 15th cyclic loading</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dwell%20time%20effect" title=" Dwell time effect"> Dwell time effect</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/106840/performance-analysis-of-compression-socks-strips" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/106840.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">160</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2805</span> GPU Accelerated Fractal Image Compression for Medical Imaging in Parallel Computing Platform</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Md.%20Enamul%20Haque">Md. There is several improvements in the implementation of the algorithm as well. Fractal image compression is based on the self similarity of an image, meaning an image having similarity in majority of the regions. We take this opportunity to implement the compression algorithm and monitor the effect of it using both parallel and sequential implementation. Fractal compression has the property of high compression rate and the dimensionless scheme. Compression scheme for fractal image is of two kinds, one is encoding and another is decoding. Encoding is very much computational expensive. On the other hand decoding is less computational. The application of fractal compression to medical images would allow obtaining much higher compression ratios. While the fractal magnification an inseparable feature of the fractal compression would be very useful in presenting the reconstructed image in a highly readable form. However, like all irreversible methods, the fractal compression is connected with the problem of information loss, which is especially troublesome in the medical imaging. A very time consuming encoding process, which can last even several hours, is another bothersome drawback of the fractal compression. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=accelerated%20GPU" title="accelerated GPU">accelerated GPU</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CUDA" title=" CUDA"> CUDA</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=parallel%20computing" title=" parallel computing"> parallel computing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fractal%20image%20compression" title=" fractal image compression"> fractal image compression</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/5645/gpu-accelerated-fractal-image-compression-for-medical-imaging-in-parallel-computing-platform" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/5645.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">336</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2804</span> The Effects of Electron Trapping by Electron-Ecoustic Waves Excited with Electron Beam</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abid%20Ali%20Abid">Abid Ali Abid</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> One-dimensional (1-D) particle-in-cell (PIC) electrostatic simulations are carried out to investigate the electrostatic waves, whose constituents are hot, cold and beam electrons in the background of motionless positive ions. In fact, the electrostatic modes excited are electron acoustic waves, beam driven waves as well as Langmuir waves. It is assessed that the relevant plasma parameters, for example, hot electron temperature, beam electron drift speed, and the electron beam density significantly modify the electrostatics wave's profiles. In the nonlinear stage, the wave-particle interaction becomes more evident and the waves have obtained its saturation level. Consequently, electrons become trapped in the waves and trapping vortices are clearly formed. Because of this trapping vortices and mixing of the electrons in phase space, finally, lead to electrons thermalization. It is observed that for the high-density value of the beam-electron, the solitary waves having a bipolar form of the electric field. In this context, this paper addresses the problem of the lossless and the near-lossless compression of images. This proposed method is based on Block SVD Power Method that overcomes the disadvantages of Matlab's SVD function. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has a better compression performance compared with the existing compression algorithms that use the Matlab's SVD function. The standing periodic waves are known to be modulationally unstable, and rogue waves (localized perturbations in space and time) have been observed on their backgrounds in numerical experiments. The exact solutions for rogue waves arising on the periodic standing waves have been obtained analytically. It is natural to ask if the rogue waves persist on the standing periodic waves in the integrable discretizations of the integrable NLS equation. We study the standing periodic waves in the semidiscrete integrable system modeled by the high-order Ablowitz-Ladik (AL) equation. The standing periodic wave of the high-order AL equation is expressed by the Jacobi cnoidal elliptic function. The exact solutions are obtained by using the separation of variables and one-fold Darboux transformation. We show that there exist running waves in the form of supersonic kinks and solitons and calculate their velocities and profiles. We show that the nonstationary smooth waves, which are small perturbations on the homogeneous non-zero background, are described by Korteweg-de Vries equation, and those on zero background -by the modified Korteweg-de Vries equation. Compression therapy is the universally accepted treatment for the management of hypertrophic scarring after severe burns. Mostly stretchable knitted fabrics are used in compression therapy but in the recent past, some studies have also been found on bi-stretch woven fabrics being used as compression garments as they also have been found quite effective in the treatment of oedema. Therefore, the objective of the present study is to compare the compression properties of stretchable knitted and bi-stretch woven fabrics for compression garments. For this purpose four woven structures and four knitted structures were produced having the same areal density and their compression, comfort and mechanical properties were compared before and after 5, 10 and 15 washes. Four knitted structures used were single jersey, single locaste, plain pique and the honeycomb, whereas four woven structures produced were 1/1 plain, 2/1 twill, 3/1 twill and 4/1 twill. The compression properties of the produced samples were tested by using kikuhime pressure sensor and it was found that bi-stretch woven fabrics possessed better compression properties before and after washes and retain their durability after repeated use, whereas knitted stretchable fabrics lost their compression ability after repeated use and the required sub garment pressure of the knitted structures after 15 washes was almost half to that of woven bi-stretch fabrics. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=compression%20garments" title="compression garments">compression garments</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=knitted%20structures" title=" knitted structures"> knitted structures</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=medical%20textiles" title=" medical textiles"> medical textiles</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=woven%20bi-stretch" title=" woven bi-stretch"> woven bi-stretch</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/39769/comparison-of-compression-properties-of-stretchable-knitted-fabrics-and-bi-stretch-woven-fabrics-for-compression-garments" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/39769.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">412</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2798</span> Heating of the Ions by Electromagnetic Ion Cyclotron (EMIC) Waves Using Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) Satellite Observation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=A.%20A.%20Abid">A. It has been examined that the intensity of EMIC waves gradually increases by decreasing the L shell. The waves are triggered by hot proton thermal anisotropy. The low-energy cold protons (ions) can be activated by the EMIC waves when the EMIC wave intensity is high. As a result, these previously invisible protons are now visible. As a result, the EMC waves also excite the helium ions. The EMIC waves, whose frequency in the magnetosphere of the Earth ranges from 0.001 Hz to 5 Hz, have drawn a lot of attention for their ability to carry energy. Since these waves act as a mechanism for the loss of energetic electrons from the Van Allen radiation belt to the atmosphere, therefore, it is necessary to understand how and where they can be produced, as well as the direction of waves along the magnetic field lines. This work examines how the excitation of EMIC waves is affected by the energy of hot proton temperature anisotropy, and It has a minimum resonance energy of 6.9 keV and a range of 7 to 26 keV. On the hot protons, however, the reverse effect can be seen for energies below the minimum resonance energy. It is demonstrated that throughout the energy range of 1 eV to 100 eV, the number density and temperature anisotropy of the protons likewise rise as the intensity of the EMIC waves increases. Key Points: 1. The analysis of EMIC waves produced by hot proton temperature anisotropy using MMS data. 2. The number density and temperature anisotropy of the cold protons increases owing to high-intensity EMIC waves. 3. It is used to reduce the number of bits required to represent an image. Meteosat Second Generation (MSG) satellite allows the acquisition of 12 image files every 15 minutes and that results in a large databases sizes. In this paper, a novel image compression method based on the arithmetic coding with the sorted Run Length Coding (SRLC) for MSG images is proposed. The SRLC allows us to find the occurrence of the consecutive pixels of the original image to create a sorted run. The arithmetic coding allows the encoding of the sorted data of the previous stage to retrieve a unique code word that represents a binary code stream in the sorted order to boost the compression ratio. Through this article, we show that our method can perform the best results concerning compression ratio and bit rate unlike the method based on the Run Length Coding (RLC) and the arithmetic coding. Evaluation criteria like the compression ratio and the bit rate allow the confirmation of the efficiency of our method of image compression. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=image%20compression" title="image compression">image compression</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=arithmetic%20coding" title=" arithmetic coding"> arithmetic coding</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Run%20Length%20Coding" title=" Run Length Coding"> Run Length Coding</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=RLC" title=" RLC"> RLC</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sorted%20Run%20Length%20Coding" title=" Sorted Run Length Coding"> Sorted Run Length Coding</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SRLC" title=" SRLC"> SRLC</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Meteosat%20Second%20Generation" title=" Meteosat Second Generation"> Meteosat Second Generation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MSG" title=" MSG"> MSG</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/16704/a-high-compression-ratio-for-a-losseless-image-compression-based-on-the-arithmetic-coding-with-the-sorted-run-length-coding-meteosat-second-generation-image-compression" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/16704.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">354</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2796</span> Medical Image Compression Based on Region of Interest: A Review</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sudeepti%20Dayal">Sudeepti Dayal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Neelesh%20Gupta"> Neelesh Gupta</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In terms of transmission, bigger the size of any image, longer the time the channel takes for transmission. It is understood that the bandwidth of the channel is fixed. Therefore, if the size of an image is reduced, a larger number of data or images can be transmitted over the channel. Compression is the technique used to reduce the size of an image. In terms of storage, compression reduces the file size which it occupies on the disk. Any image is based on two parameters, region of interest and non-region of interest. There are several algorithms of compression that compress the data more economically. In this paper we have reviewed region of interest and non-region of interest based compression techniques and the algorithms which compress the image most efficiently. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=compression%20ratio" title="compression ratio">compression ratio</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=region%20of%20interest" title=" region of interest"> region of interest</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DCT" title=" DCT"> DCT</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DWT" title=" DWT"> DWT</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43380/medical-image-compression-based-on-region-of-interest-a-review" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43380.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">375</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2795</span> Nonlinear Evolution of the Pulses of Elastic Waves in Geological Materials</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elena%20B.%20Cherepetskaya">Elena B. Ultrasonic pulses are excited by the pulses of Q-switched Nd:YAG laser with the time duration of 10 ns and with the energy of 260 mJ. This energy can be reduced to 20 mJ by some light filters. The laser beam radius did not exceed 5 mm. As a result of the absorption of the laser pulse in the special material – the optoacoustic generator–the pulses of longitudinal ultrasonic waves are excited with the time duration of 100 ns and with the maximum pressure amplitude of 10 MPa. The immersion technique is used to measure the parameters of these ultrasonic pulses passed through a specimen, the immersion liquid is distilled water. The reference pulse passed through the cell with water has the compression and the rarefaction phases. The amplitude of the rarefaction phase is five times lower than that of the compression phase. The spectral range of the reference pulse reaches 10 MHz. The cubic-shaped specimens of the Karelian gabbro are studied with the rib length 3 cm. The ultimate strength of the specimens by the uniaxial compression is (300±10) MPa. As the reference pulse passes through the area of the specimen without cracks the compression phase decreases and the rarefaction one increases due to diffraction and scattering of ultrasound, so the ratio of these phases becomes 2.3:1. After preloading some horizontal cracks appear in the specimens. Their location is found by one-sided scanning of the specimen using the backward mode detection of the ultrasonic pulses reflected from the structure defects. Using the computer processing of these signals the images are obtained of the cross-sections of the specimens with cracks. By the increase of the reference pulse amplitude from 0.1 MPa to 5 MPa the nonlinear transformation of the ultrasonic pulse passed through the specimen with horizontal cracks results in the decrease by 2.5 times of the amplitude of the rarefaction phase and in the increase of its duration by 2.1 times. By the increase of the reference pulse amplitude from 5 MPa to 10 MPa the time splitting of the phases is observed for the bipolar pulse passed through the specimen. The compression and rarefaction phases propagate with different velocities. These features of the powerful broadband ultrasonic pulses passed through the rock specimens can be described by the hysteresis model of Preisach-Mayergoyz and can be used for the location of cracks in the optically opaque materials. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cracks" title="cracks">cracks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=geological%20materials" title=" geological materials"> geological materials</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nonlinear%20evolution%20of%20ultrasonic%20pulses" title=" nonlinear evolution of ultrasonic pulses"> nonlinear evolution of ultrasonic pulses</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rock" title=" rock"> rock</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/35779/nonlinear-evolution-of-the-pulses-of-elastic-waves-in-geological-materials" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/35779.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">350</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2794</span> QCARNet: Networks for Quality-Adaptive Compression Artifact</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Seung%20Ho%20Park">Seung Ho Park</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Young%20Su%20Moon"> Young Su Moon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nam%20Ik%20Cho"> Nam Ik Cho</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> We propose a convolution neural network (CNN) for quality adaptive compression artifact reduction named QCARNet. Under the understanding of the general laws of the driving mechanism of China's space expansion, it is found that the existing research on the driving mechanism of the space expansion of national new districts is insufficient. The research area focuses on the research of the driving mechanism of the space expansion of a single new area. In terms of research methods, qualitative description is the main focus. In terms of research content, it is limited to the expansion speed, intensity, and area of the new district itself and does not involve the expansion and utilization efficiency of space and the spillover efficiency to surrounding cities. The specific connotations of social, economic, political, and geographical categories are not thoroughly explored. It is often a general explanation that a certain factor has promoted it. The logic is not rigorous and convincing, and the description is relatively static, with different time and space. There is less literature on scale interaction. Through the reflection on the key and difficult points of the drive mechanism of the space expansion of the national new area, it is clear that the existing research on the drive mechanism of the space expansion of the national new area should be continued to drive the sustainable expansion of space. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=national%20new%20district" title="national new district">national new district</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=space%20expansion" title=" space expansion"> space expansion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=driving%20mechanism" title=" driving mechanism"> driving mechanism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=existing%20research" title=" existing research"> existing research</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/131639/a-summary-of-the-research-on-the-driving-mechanism-of-space-expansion-in-chinas-national-new-district" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/131639.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">169</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2792</span> Compression Index Estimation by Water Content and Liquid Limit and Void Ratio Using Statistics Method</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lizhou%20Chen">Lizhou Chen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdelhamid%20Belgaid"> Abdelhamid Belgaid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Assem%20Elsayed"> Assem Elsayed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xiaoming%20Yang"> Xiaoming Yang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Compression index is essential in foundation settlement calculation. The traditional method for determining compression index is consolidation test which is expensive and time consuming. Many researchers have used regression methods to develop empirical equations for predicting compression index from soil properties. Based on a large number of compression index data collected from consolidation tests, the accuracy of some popularly empirical equations were assessed. It was found that primary compression index is significantly overestimated in some equations while it is underestimated in others. The sensitivity analyses of soil parameters including water content, liquid limit and void ratio were performed. The results indicate that the compression index obtained from void ratio is most accurate. The ANOVA (analysis of variance) demonstrates that the equations with multiple soil parameters cannot provide better predictions than the equations with single soil parameter. In other words, it is not necessary to develop the relationships between compression index and multiple soil parameters. Meanwhile, it was noted that secondary compression index is approximately 0.7-5.0% of primary compression index with an average of 2.0%. In the end, the proposed prediction equations using power regression technique were provided that can provide more accurate predictions than those from existing equations. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=compression%20index" title="compression index">compression index</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=clay" title=" clay"> clay</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=settlement" title=" settlement"> settlement</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=consolidation" title=" consolidation"> consolidation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=secondary%20compression%20index" title=" secondary compression index"> secondary compression index</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=soil%20parameter" title=" soil parameter"> soil parameter</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/111582/compression-index-estimation-by-water-content-and-liquid-limit-and-void-ratio-using-statistics-method" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/111582.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">163</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2791</span> In-Cylinder Exhaust Heat Recovery of an I. Four stroke Diesel cycle and Otto cycle engines have very low thermal efficiency due to high amount of energy loss in exhaust and also on the cooling of the engine. It is estimated about 35 percent of fuel energy is lost in exhaust of engine and 30 percent in cooling of engine. So by modifying a four-stroke Otto or Diesel engine by adding two-stroke heat recovery steam cycle is presented here. Water injection is used to get an additional power stroke by partial compression of the exhaust gases at the end of third stroke in a four stroke I.C.Engine. It is the conversion of a four-stroke cycle to a six-stroke cycle. By taking a four stroke petrol engine of known dimensions, an ideal thermodynamic model is used to analyse and calculate the events of exhaust gas compression and following two strokes of water injection. By changing the exhaust valve closing timing during exhaust stroke and analysing it on various points, an optimum amount of exhaust gas re-compression and amount of water injection can be found for maximizing efficiency and fuel economy. It is achieved by changing the exhaust valve timing and finding an optimum amount of exhaust re-compression, maximizing the net mean effective pressure of the steam expansion stroke (MEPsteam). Specific fuel consumption of the engine also decreases increasing the fuel economy. The valve closing timings for maximum MEPsteam is limited by either 1 bar or dew point temperature of expansion gas or moisture mixture to avoid moisture formation. By modifying the four-stroke Otto or Diesel cycle by adding two water injection stroke has the potential to significantly increase the engine efficiency and fuel economy. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=internal%20combustion%20engine" title="internal combustion engine">internal combustion engine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=engine%20efficiency" title=" engine efficiency"> engine efficiency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=six-stroke%20cycle" title=" six-stroke cycle"> six-stroke cycle</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=water%20injection" title=" water injection"> water injection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=specific%20fuel%20consumption" title=" specific fuel consumption"> specific fuel consumption</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/26461/in-cylinder-exhaust-heat-recovery-of-an-i-c-engine-using-water-injection" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/26461.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">304</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2790</span> Comparative Study of Soliton Collisions in Uniform and Nonuniform Magnetized Plasma</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Renu%20Tomar">Renu Tomar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hitendra%20K.%20Malik"> Hitendra K. The ion acoustic solitary waves have been investigated in details in homogeneous plasmas, inhomogeneous plasmas, and magnetized plasmas. The ion acoustic solitary waves are also found to reflect from a density gradient or boundary present in the plasma after propagating. Another interesting feature of the solitary waves is their collision. In the present work, we carry out analytical calculations for the head-on collision of solitary waves in a magnetized plasma which has dust grains in addition to the ions and electrons. For this, we employ Poincar´e-Lighthill-Kuo (PLK) method. To lowest nonlinear order, the problem of colliding solitary waves leads to KdV (modified KdV) equations and also yields the phase shifts that occur in the interaction. These calculations are accomplished for the uniform and nonuniform plasmas, and the results on the soliton properties are discussed in detail. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=inhomogeneous%20magnetized%20plasma" title="inhomogeneous magnetized plasma">inhomogeneous magnetized plasma</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dust%20charging" title=" dust charging"> dust charging</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=soliton%20collisions" title=" soliton collisions"> soliton collisions</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=magnetized%20plasma" title=" magnetized plasma"> magnetized plasma</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/14740/comparative-study-of-soliton-collisions-in-uniform-and-nonuniform-magnetized-plasma" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/14740.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">470</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2789</span> Performance Analysis of Vapour Compression Refrigeration System with Alternate Refrigerants</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=K.%20Parthiban">K. Currently we are using R134a as refrigerant. It is used in both household and industrial appliances as refrigerant. It has an advantage that the ozone depletion potential is zero i.e. R134a does not affects ozone layer. But its Global warming potential is considerably high. Also the compressor failure occurs frequently. Hence this project deals with how the performance of R134a varies with blended refrigerants such as R416a and R407c. This analysis is based on how much the Co-efficient of Performance (COP) varies with different refrigerants. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=compressor" title="compressor">compressor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=condenser" title=" condenser"> condenser</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=expansion%20valve" title=" expansion valve"> expansion valve</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=evaporator" title=" evaporator"> evaporator</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28551/performance-analysis-of-vapour-compression-refrigeration-system-with-alternate-refrigerants" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28551.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">323</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2788</span> Large Strain Compression-Tension Behavior of AZ31B Rolled Sheet in the Rolling Direction</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=A.%20Yazdanmehr">A. Expanding their application to different material processing methods requires Mg properties at large strains. Several room-temperature processes such as shot and laser peening and hole cold expansion need compressive large strain data. Two methods have been proposed in the literature to obtain the stress-strain curve at high strains: 1) anti-buckling guides and 2) small cubic samples. In this paper, an anti-buckling fixture is used with the help of digital image correlation (DIC) to obtain the compression-tension (C-T) of AZ31B-H24 rolled sheet at large strain values of up to 10.5%. The effect of the anti-bucking fixture on stress-strain curves is evaluated experimentally by comparing the results with those of the compression tests of cubic samples. For testing cubic samples, a new fixture has been designed to increase the accuracy of testing cubic samples with DIC strain measurements. Results show a negligible effect of anti-buckling on stress-strain curves, specifically at high strain values. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=large%20strain" title="large strain">large strain</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=compression-tension" title=" compression-tension"> compression-tension</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=loading-unloading" title=" loading-unloading"> loading-unloading</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mg%20alloys" title=" Mg alloys"> Mg alloys</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/89743/large-strain-compression-tension-behavior-of-az31b-rolled-sheet-in-the-rolling-direction" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/89743.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">238</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2787</span> Two-Step Inversion Method for Multi-mode Surface Waves</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ying%20Zhang">Ying Zhang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Surface waves provide critical constraints about the earth's structure in the crust and upper mantle. However, different modes of Love waves with close group velocities often arrive at a similar time and interfere with each other. This problem is typical for Love waves at intermediate periods that travel through the oceanic lithosphere. Therefore, we developed a two-step inversion approach to separate the waveforms of the fundamental and first higher mode of Love waves. We first solve the phase velocities of the two modes and their amplitude ratios. The misfit function is based on the sum of phase differences among the station pairs. We then solve the absolute amplitudes of the two modes and their initial phases using obtained phase velocities and amplitude ratio. The separated waveforms of each mode from the two-step inversion method can be further used in surface wave tomography to improve model resolution. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=surface%20wave%20inversion" title="surface wave inversion">surface wave inversion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=waveform%20separation" title=" waveform separation"> waveform separation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=love%20waves" title=" love waves"> love waves</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=higher-mode%20interference" title=" higher-mode interference"> higher-mode interference</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/164271/two-step-inversion-method-for-multi-mode-surface-waves" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/164271.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">70</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2786</span> In-Situ Quasistatic Compression and Microstructural Characterization of Aluminium Foams of Different Cell Topology</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20A.%20Islam">M. The compression behavior and micro structural characterization will be presented. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=metal%20foams" title="metal foams">metal foams</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=micro-CT" title=" micro-CT"> micro-CT</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cell%20topology" title=" cell topology"> cell topology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quasistatic%20compression" title=" quasistatic compression"> quasistatic compression</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/11025/in-situ-quasistatic-compression-and-microstructural-characterization-of-aluminium-foams-of-different-cell-topology" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/11025.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">455</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2785</span> Effects of Charge Fluctuating Positive Dust on Linear Dust-Acoustic Waves </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sanjit%20Kumar%20Paul">Sanjit Kumar Paul</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=A.%20A.%20Mamun"> A. It has been shown that the dust charge fluctuation is a source of dissipation and its responsible for the formation of the dust-acoustic waves in such a dusty plasma. The basic features of such dust-acoustic waves have been identified. It has been proposed to design a new laboratory experiment which will be able to identify the basic features of the dust-acoustic waves predicted in this theoretical investigation. <p
