Fairfax Manor Inclined Railroad (1913-1930) in Marin County (California). It was an inclined railway with only one carriage and a counterweight. The carriage was rolling on the external pair of rails while the counterweight used the internal pair of rails. So… the counterweight was flat and passed under the carriage at the middle point.</p> <h2><em>Nouvelle photo du Fairfax Manor Incline</em></h2> <p><em>Exceptionnelle et donc rare photo du Fairfax Manor Inclined Railroad (1913-1930) dans le Comté de Marin (Californie).</em><br /> <em> Ce fut un funiculaire, aujourd’hui complètement disparu, à quatre rails avec une seule cabine et un contrepoids.</em><br /> <em> La cabine roulait sur la paire de rails extérieurs alors que le contrepoids utilisait les rails intérieurs.</em><br /> <em> Le contrepoids était donc plat et passait sous Incline (1906)</figcaption></figure> <p style="text-align: left;">This is the <strong>new powerhouse of the Mount Lowe Incline</strong> at the top of the Echo Mountain (California, USA).<br />It was built in 1906 after the 1905 big fire which destroyed almost all the buildings on Echo Mountain.<br />Note the rails and the cables which enters downstairs to the winding machinery in the center of the building.<br />Note on the roof the big searchlight and just below you can see the incline operator which also operates the searchlight (see photo below). I am wondering if the incline operator is exactly on the same plane as the incline!<br />Note, between the two incline workers, you can see part of an electric car waiting for passengers from the incline.<br />Note behind the powerhouse two other electric cars on the Alpine Division track which goes to the Alpine Tavern at the top of the Mount Lowe. On the background, behind the roof of the powerhouse, you can also see the famous Circular Bridge!<br /><em>Il s’agit de la <strong>gare supérieure du funiculaire du Mount Lowe</strong> (Californie, USA) qui abrite la salle des machines.</em><br /><em>Elle a été entièrement reconstruite en 1906 après le terrible incendie de 1905 qui ravagea pratiquement tous les bâtiments sur l’Echo Mountain.</em><br /><em>A noter, devant le bâtiment, les rails du funiculaire ainsi que les câbles qui rentrent dans le bâtiment pour aller vers la machinerie située au sous-sol.</em><br /><em>A noter, sur le toit du bâtiment, le grand projecteur de poursuite et juste dessous vous pouvez apercevoir l’opérateur du funiculaire qui est aussi celui du projecteur (voir l’agrandissement ci-dessous). Je me demande si l’opérateur se trouve exactement dans le même plan que celui du plan incliné!</em><br /><em>Entre les deux mécaniciens, sous l’entrée du bâtiment, vous apercevez également une voiture électrique qui attend les passagers venant du funiculaire pour les transporter sur la section Alpine du chemin de fer. The authorities have taken the decision to shut down the funicular for security reasons. Abnormal wear of the flanged wheels has been detected and more precisely the part of the wheel which serves to guide on the side of the rail-head. The origin of the wear remains to be determined but in the meantime the funicular is again stopped. <br />Recall that already in 2001, the Angels Flight was closed for 9 years after a serious accident that killed one passenger and injured eight others.</p> <p><em><strong>Angels Flight – Encore arrêté !</strong></em></p> <p><em>Décidément, les ennuis continuent pour l’Angels Flight, le funiculaire du centre de Los Angeles. Les autorités viennent de prendre la décision de l’arrêter pour des raisons de sécurité. Une usure anormale des roues vient d’être détectée et plus précisément une usure des boudins, la partie de la roue qui sert au guidage sur la partie latérale du champignon des rails. L’origine de l’usure reste encore à être déterminée mais en attendant le funiculaire est une nouvelle fois immobilisé.</em><br /><em> Rappelons que, déjà en 2001, l’Angels Flight avait été fermé Hill overlooking San Fernando Valley above Mulholland Drive and is only accessible by a funicular.<br />It was bought in 2000 by German publisher Benedikt Taschen which made the house renovation and
