there<MH369> is<MH369> neither<MH369> adversary<MH7854> nor<MH369> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>misfortune<MH6294, 7451a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/5-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>So behold<MH2009>, I <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>intend<MH559> to build<MH1129> a house<MH1004> for the name<MH8034> of the LORD<MH3068> my God<MH430>, just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> the LORD<MH3068> spoke<MH1696> to David<MH1732> my father<MH1>, saying<MH559>, ‘Your son<MH1121>, whom<MH834> I will put<MH5414> on your throne<MH3678> in<MH8478> your place<MH8478>, he will build<MH1129> the house<MH1004> for My name<MH8034>.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/5-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>Now<MH6258> then, issue<MH6680> orders<MH6680> that they cut<MH3772> cedars<MH730> from Lebanon<MH3844> for me, and my servants<MH5650> will be with your servants<MH5650>; and I will give<MH5414> you wages<MH7939> for your servants<MH5650> in accordance with all<MH3605> that you say<MH559>, for you yourself<MH859> know<MH3045> that there<MH369> is<MH369> no<MH369> one<MH376> among us who knows<MH3045> how<MH3045> to cut<MH3772> timber<MH6086> like the Sidonians<MH6722>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/5-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>When Hiram<MH2438> heard<MH8085> the words<MH1697> of Solomon<MH8010>, he greatly<MH3966> rejoiced<MH8055>; and he said<MH559>, “Blessed<MH1288> be the LORD<MH3068> today<MH3117>, who<MH834> has given<MH5414> to David<MH1732> a wise<MH2450> son<MH1121> over<MH5921> this<MH2088> great<MH7227a> people<MH5971a>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/5-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>So Hiram<MH2438> sent<MH7971> <i>word</i> to Solomon<MH8010>, saying<MH559>, “I have heard<MH8085> <i>the message</i> which<MH834> you sent<MH7971> me; I will do<MH6213a> everything<MH3605> you wish<MH2656> concerning the cedar<MH730> and juniper<MH1265> timber<MH6086>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/5-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>My servants<MH5650> will bring<MH3381> <i>the timbers</i> down<MH3381> from Lebanon<MH3844> to the sea<MH3220>; and I will have them made<MH7760> into rafts<MH1702> <i>to go</i> by sea<MH3220> to the place<MH4725> where<MH834> you <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>direct<MH7971> me, and I will have them broken<MH5310a> up<MH5310a> there<MH8033>, and you will carry<MH5375> <i>them</i> away. Then you shall do<MH6213a> what<MH2656> I wish<MH2656>, by giving<MH5414> food<MH3899> to my household<MH1004>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/5-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>So <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>Hiram<MH2438> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>gave<MH5414> Solomon<MH8010> all<MH3605> that he wished<MH2656> of the cedar<MH730> and juniper<MH1265> timber<MH6086>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/5-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Solomon<MH8010> then gave<MH5414> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>Hiram<MH2438> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>twenty<MH6242> thousand<MH505> kors<MH3734a> of wheat<MH2406> as food<MH4361> for his household<MH1004>, and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>twenty<MH6242> kors<MH3734a> of pure<MH3795> oil<MH8081>; this<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> Solomon<MH8010> would give<MH5414> Hiram<MH2438> year<MH8141> by year<MH8141>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/5-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And the LORD<MH3068> gave<MH5414> wisdom<MH2451> to Solomon<MH8010>, just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> He <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>promised<MH1696> him; and there was peace<MH7965> between<MH996> Hiram<MH2438> and Solomon<MH8010>, and the two<MH8147> of them made<MH3772> a covenant<MH1285>. <p class="hdg">Conscription of Laborers</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/5-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Now King<MH4428> Solomon<MH8010> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>conscripted<MH5927> forced<MH4522> laborers<MH4522> from all<MH3605> Israel<MH3478>; and the forced<MH4522> laborers<MH4522> <i>numbered</i> thirty<MH7970> thousand<MH505> men<MH376>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/5-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Then he sent<MH7971> them to Lebanon<MH3844>, ten<MH6235> thousand<MH505> a month<MH2320> in shifts<MH2487>; they were in Lebanon<MH3844> for a month<MH2320>, <i>and</i> two<MH8147> months<MH2320> at home<MH1004>.
