for I will appear<MH7200> in the cloud<MH6051> over<MH5921> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>atoning<MH3727> cover<MH3727>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>Aaron<MH175> shall enter<MH935> the Holy<MH6944> Place<MH6944> with this<MH2088>: with a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>bull<MH6499, 1121, 1241> as a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>sin<MH2403b> offering<MH2403b> and a ram<MH352a> as a burnt<MH5930a> offering<MH5930a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>He shall put<MH3847> on<MH3847> the holy<MH6944> linen<MH906> tunic<MH3801>, and the linen<MH906> undergarments<MH4370> shall be next<MH5921> to his <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>body<MH1320>, and he shall be wrapped<MH2296> about<MH2296> the<MH2296> waist<MH2296> with the linen<MH906> sash<MH73> and the linen<MH906> turban<MH4701> wound<MH6801> around<MH6801> <i>his forehead</i> (these<MH1992a> are holy<MH6944> garments<MH899b>). He shall bathe<MH7364> his <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>body<MH1320> in water<MH4325> and put<MH3847> them on<MH3847>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>And he shall take<MH3947> from the congregation<MH5712> of the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> two<MH8147> male<MH8163b> goats<MH5795> as a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>sin<MH2403b> offering<MH2403b>, and one<MH259> ram<MH352a> as a burnt<MH5930a> offering<MH5930a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>Then Aaron<MH175> shall offer<MH7126> the bull<MH6499> as the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>sin<MH2403b> offering<MH2403b>, which<MH834> is for himself, so that he may make<MH3722a> atonement<MH3722a> for himself and for his household<MH1004>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>He shall then take<MH3947> the two<MH8147> goats<MH8163b> and present<MH5975> them before<MH6440> the LORD<MH3068> at the doorway<MH6607> of the tent<MH168> of meeting<MH4150>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Aaron<MH175> shall cast<MH5414> lots<MH1486> for the two<MH8147> goats<MH8163b>, one<MH259> lot<MH1486> for the LORD<MH3068> and the other<MH259> lot<MH1486> for <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>scapegoat<MH5799>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Then Aaron<MH175> shall offer<MH7126> the goat<MH5795> on which<MH834> the lot<MH1486> for the LORD<MH3068> fell<MH5927>, and make<MH6213a> it a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>sin<MH2403b> offering<MH2403b>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>But the goat<MH5795> on which<MH834> the lot<MH1486> for <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>scapegoat<MH5799> fell<MH5927> shall be presented<MH5975> alive<MH2416a> before<MH6440> the LORD<MH3068>, to make<MH3722a> atonement<MH3722a> upon it, to send<MH7971> it into the wilderness<MH4057b> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>as the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>scapegoat<MH5799>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>“Then Aaron<MH175> shall offer<MH7126> the bull<MH6499> of the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>sin<MH2403b> offering<MH2403b> which<MH834> is for himself and make<MH3722a> atonement<MH3722a> for himself and for his household<MH1004>, and he shall slaughter<MH7819> the bull<MH6499> of the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>sin<MH2403b> offering<MH2403b> which<MH834> is for himself. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>He shall take<MH3947> a firepan<MH4289> full<MH4393> of coals<MH1513> of fire<MH784> from upon the altar<MH4196> before<MH4480, 6440> the LORD<MH3068> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>two handfuls<MH4393, 2651> of finely<MH1851> ground<MH1851> sweet<MH5561> incense<MH7004>, and bring<MH935> <i>it</i> inside<MH4480, 1004> the veil<MH6532>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>He shall put<MH5414> the incense<MH7004> on the fire<MH784> before<MH6440> the LORD<MH3068>, so that the cloud<MH6051> of incense<MH7004> may cover<MH3680> the atoning<MH3727> cover<MH3727> that is on <i>the ark of</i> the testimony<MH5715>, otherwise<MH3808> he will die<MH4191>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Moreover, he shall take<MH3947> some<MH4480> of the blood<MH1818> of the bull<MH6499> and sprinkle<MH5137a> <i>it</i> with his finger<MH676> on the atoning<MH3727> cover<MH3727> on the east<MH6924b> <i>side;</i> also in front<MH6440> of the atoning<MH3727> cover<MH3727> he shall sprinkle<MH5137a> some<MH4480> of the blood<MH1818> with his finger<MH676> seven<MH7651> times<MH6471>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>“Then he shall slaughter<MH7819> the goat<MH5795> of the sin<MH2403b> offering<MH2403b>, which<MH834> is for the people<MH5971a>, and bring<MH935> its blood<MH1818> inside<MH413, 4480, 1004> the veil<MH6532> and do<MH6213a> with its blood<MH1818> as he did<MH6213a> with the blood<MH1818> of the bull<MH6499>, and sprinkle<MH5137a> it on the atoning<MH3727> cover<MH3727> and in front<MH6440> of the atoning<MH3727> cover<MH3727>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>He shall make<MH3722a> atonement<MH3722a> for the Holy<MH6944> Place<MH6944>, because<MH4480> of the impurities<MH2932a> of the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> and because<MH4480> of their unlawful<MH6588> acts<MH6588> regarding all<MH3605> their sins<MH2403b>; and he shall do<MH6213a> so<MH3651> for the tent<MH168> of meeting<MH4150> which remains<MH7931> with them in the midst<MH8432> of their impurities<MH2932a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>When he goes<MH935> in<MH935> to make<MH3722a> atonement<MH3722a> in the Holy<MH6944> Place<MH6944>, no<MH3808> one<MH120> shall be in the tent<MH168> of meeting<MH4150> until<MH5704> he comes<MH3318> out<MH3318>, so that he may make<MH3722a> atonement<MH3722a> for himself and for his household<MH1004>, and for all<MH3605> the assembly<MH6951> of Israel<MH3478>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>Then he shall go<MH3318> out<MH3318> to the altar<MH4196> that is before<MH6440> the LORD<MH3068> and make<MH3722a> atonement<MH3722a> for it; he shall take<MH3947> some<MH4480> of the blood<MH1818> from the bull<MH6499> and <i>some</i> of the blood<MH1818> from the goat<MH5795>, and put<MH5414> it on the horns<MH7161> of the altar<MH4196> on all<MH5439> sides<MH5439>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>With his finger<MH676> he shall sprinkle<MH5137a> some<MH4480> of the blood<MH1818> on it seven<MH7651> times<MH6471> and cleanse<MH2891> it, and consecrate<MH6942> it from the impurities<MH2932a> of the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>“When he finishes<MH3615> atoning<MH3722a> for the Holy<MH6944> Place<MH6944> and the tent<MH168> of meeting<MH4150> and the altar<MH4196>, he shall offer<MH7126> the live<MH2416a> goat<MH5795>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>Then Aaron<MH175> shall lay<MH5564> both<MH8147> of his hands<MH3027> on the head<MH7218> of the live<MH2416a> goat<MH5795>, and confess<MH3034> over<MH5921> it all<MH3605> the wrongdoings<MH5771> of the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> and all<MH3605> their unlawful<MH6588> acts<MH6588> regarding all<MH3605> their sins<MH2403b>; and he shall place<MH5414> them on the head<MH7218> of the goat<MH5795> and send<MH7971> <i>it</i> away<MH7971> into the wilderness<MH4057b> by the hand<MH3027> of a man<MH376> who <i>stands</i> ready<MH6261>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>Then the goat<MH5795> shall carry<MH5375> on itself all<MH3605> their wrongdoings<MH5771> to an <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>isolated<MH1509> territory<MH776>; he shall release<MH7971> the goat<MH8163b> in the wilderness<MH4057b>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>“Then Aaron<MH175> shall come<MH935> into the tent<MH168> of meeting<MH4150> and take<MH6584> off<MH6584> the linen<MH906> garments<MH899b> which<MH834> he put<MH3847> on<MH3847> when he went<MH935> into the Holy<MH6944> Place<MH6944>, and shall leave<MH5117> them there<MH8033>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>And he shall bathe<MH7364> his <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[u]</a></span>body<MH1320> with water<MH4325> in a holy<MH6918> place<MH4725> and put<MH3847> on<MH3847> his clothes<MH899b>, and come<MH3318> out<MH3318> and offer<MH6213a> his burnt<MH5930a> offering<MH5930a> and the burnt<MH5930a> offering<MH5930a> of the people<MH5971a>, and make<MH3722a> atonement<MH3722a> for himself and for the people<MH5971a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>Then he shall offer<MH6999> up<MH6999> in<MH6999> smoke<MH6999> the fat<MH2459> of the sin<MH2403b> offering<MH2403b> on the altar<MH4196>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>The one who released<MH7971> the goat<MH8163b> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[v]</a></span>as the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[w]</a></span>scapegoat<MH5799> shall wash<MH3526> his clothes<MH899b> and bathe<MH7364> his <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[x]</a></span>body<MH1320> with water<MH4325>; then afterward<MH310, 3651> he shall come<MH935> into the camp<MH4264>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>But the bull<MH6499> of the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[y]</a></span>sin<MH2403b> offering<MH2403b> and the goat<MH8163b> of the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[z]</a></span>sin<MH2403b> offering<MH2403b>, whose<MH834> blood<MH1818> was brought<MH935> in<MH935> to make<MH3722a> atonement<MH3722a> in the Holy<MH6944> Place<MH6944>, shall be taken<MH3318> outside<MH413, 4480, 2351> the camp<MH4264>, and they shall burn<MH8313> their hides<MH5785>, their flesh<MH1320>, and their refuse<MH6569> in the fire<MH784>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Then the one who burns<MH8313> them shall wash<MH3526> his clothes<MH899b> and bathe<MH7364> his body<MH1320> with water<MH4325>; and afterward<MH310, 3651> he shall come<MH935> into the camp<MH4264>. <p class="hdg">An Annual Atonement</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>“<i>This</i> shall be a permanent<MH5769> statute<MH2708> for you: in the seventh<MH7637> month<MH2320>, on the tenth<MH6218> day of the month<MH2320>, you shall humble<MH6031a> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[aa]</a></span>yourselves<MH5315> and not do<MH6213a> any<MH3605> work<MH4399>, whether the native<MH249>, or the stranger<MH1616> who resides<MH1481a> among<MH8432> you; <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>for it is on this<MH2088> day<MH3117> that <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[ab]</a></span>atonement<MH3722a> shall be made<MH3722a> for you to cleanse<MH2891> you; you will be<MH2891> clean<MH2891> from all<MH3605> your sins<MH2403b> before<MH6440> the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>It is to be a Sabbath<MH7676> of solemn<MH7677> rest<MH7677> for you, so that you may humble<MH6031a> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[ac]</a></span>yourselves<MH5315>; it is a permanent<MH5769> statute<MH2708>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>So the priest<MH3548> who<MH834> is anointed<MH4886> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[ad]</a></span>ordained<MH4390, 3027> to serve<MH3547> as<MH3547> priest<MH3547> in<MH8478> his father’s<MH1> place<MH8478> shall make<MH3722a> atonement<MH3722a>: he shall put<MH3847> on<MH3847> the linen<MH906> garments<MH899b>, the holy<MH6944> garments<MH899b>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/16-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>and make<MH3722a> atonement<MH3722a> for the holy<MH6944> sanctuary<MH4720>, and he shall make<MH3722a> atonement<MH3722a> for the tent<MH168> of meeting<MH4150> and for the altar<MH4196>.
