<t><p class="indent1">They <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>became<MH7185, 6203> stubborn<MH7185, 6203> and would not listen<MH8085> to Your commandments<MH4687>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/nehemiah/9-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>“They refused<MH3985> to listen<MH8085>, <t><p class="indent1">And did not remember<MH2142> Your wondrous<MH6381> deeds<MH6381> which<MH834> You performed<MH6213a> among<MH5973> them; <t><p class="indent1">So they became<MH7185, 6203> stubborn<MH7185, 6203> and appointed<MH5414> a leader<MH7218> to return<MH7725> to their slavery<MH5659> in <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>Egypt<MH4714>. <t><p class="indent1">But You are a God<MH433> of forgiveness<MH5547>, <t><p class="indent1">Gracious<MH2587> and compassionate<MH7349>, <t><p class="indent1">Slow<MH750> to anger<MH639> and abounding<MH7227a> in <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>mercy<MH2617a>; <t><p class="indent1">Their clothes<MH8008> did not wear<MH1086> out<MH1086>, nor<MH3808> did their feet<MH7272> swell<MH1216> up. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/nehemiah/9-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>“You also gave<MH5414> them kingdoms<MH4467> and peoples<MH5971a>, <t><p class="indent1">And allotted<MH2505a> <i>them</i> to them as a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>boundary<MH6285>. <t><p class="indent1">They took<MH3423> possession<MH3423> of the land<MH776> of Sihon<MH5511> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>the king<MH4428> of Heshbon<MH2809> <t><p class="indent1">And the land<MH776> of Og<MH5747> the king<MH4428> of Bashan<MH1316>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/nehemiah/9-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>“You made<MH7235a> their sons<MH1121> <i>as</i> numerous<MH7235a> as the stars<MH3556> of heaven<MH8064>, <t><p class="indent1">And You brought<MH935> them into the land<MH776> <t><p class="indent1">Which<MH834> You had told<MH559> their fathers<MH1> to enter<MH935> and possess<MH3423>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/nehemiah/9-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>“So their sons<MH1121> entered<MH935> and took<MH3423> possession<MH3423> of the land<MH776>. <t><p class="indent1">And You subdued<MH3665> before<MH6440> them the inhabitants<MH3427> of the land<MH776>, the Canaanites<MH3669a>, <t><p class="indent1">And You handed<MH5414, 3027> them over<MH514> to them, with their kings<MH4428> and the peoples<MH5971a> of the land<MH776>, <t><p class="indent1">To do<MH6213a> with them <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>as they desired<MH7522>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/nehemiah/9-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>“They captured<MH3920> fortified<MH1219> cities<MH5892b> and a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>fertile<MH8082a> land<MH127>. <t><p class="indent1">They took<MH3423> possession<MH3423> of houses<MH1004> full<MH4392> of every<MH3605> good<MH2898> thing<MH2898>, <t><p class="indent1">Carved<MH2672> out<MH2672> cisterns<MH953a>, vineyards<MH3754>, olive<MH2132> groves<MH2132>, <t><p class="indent1">Fruit<MH3978> trees<MH6086> in abundance<MH7230>. <t><p class="indent1">So they ate<MH398>, were filled<MH7646> and put<MH8080> on<MH8080> fat<MH8080>, <t><p class="indent1">And lived<MH5727> luxuriously<MH5727> in Your great<MH1419> goodness<MH2898>. <poetry><p class="paragraph"><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/nehemiah/9-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>“But they became<MH4784> rebellious<MH4784> and revolted<MH4775> against You, <t><p class="indent1">And threw<MH7993> Your Law<MH8451> behind<MH310> their backs<MH1458> <t><p class="indent1">And killed<MH2026> Your prophets<MH5030> who<MH834> had admonished<MH5749b> them <t><p class="indent1">In order to bring<MH7725> them back<MH7725> to You, <t><p class="indent1">And they committed<MH6213a> great<MH1419> blasphemies<MH5007b>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/nehemiah/9-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>“Therefore You handed<MH5414, 3027> them over<MH5414> to their enemies<MH6862c> who oppressed<MH6887a> them, <t><p class="indent1">But when they cried<MH6817> out<MH6817> to You in the time<MH6256> of their distress<MH6869a>, <t><p class="indent1">You heard<MH8085> from heaven<MH8064>, and according to Your great<MH7227a> compassion<MH7356> <t><p class="indent1">You gave<MH5414> them <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>people<MH3467> who saved<MH3467> them from the hand<MH3027> of their enemies<MH6862c>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/nehemiah/9-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>“But as soon as they had<MH5117> rest<MH5117>, they did<MH6213a> evil<MH7451b> again<MH7725> before<MH6440> You; <t><p class="indent1">Therefore You abandoned<MH5800a> them to the hand<MH3027> of their enemies<MH340>, so that they ruled<MH7287a> over them. <t><p class="indent1">When they cried<MH2199> out<MH2199> again<MH7725> to You, You heard<MH8085> from heaven<MH8064>, <t><p class="indent1">And many<MH7227a> times<MH6256> You rescued<MH5337> them according to Your compassion<MH7356>, <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/nehemiah/9-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>And admonished<MH5749b> them in order to turn<MH7725> them back<MH7725> to Your Law<MH8451>. <t><p class="indent1">Yet they acted<MH2102> arrogantly<MH2102> and did not listen<MH8085> to Your commandments<MH4687> but sinned<MH2398> against Your ordinances<MH4941>, <t><p class="indent1">Which<MH834>, <i>if</i> a person<MH120> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>follows<MH6213a> them, then he will live<MH2421a> by them. <t><p class="indent1">And they <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>turned<MH5414> a stubborn<MH5637> shoulder<MH3802> and stiffened<MH7185> their neck<MH6203>, and would not listen<MH8085>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/nehemiah/9-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>“However, You remained<MH4900> patient<MH4900> with them for many<MH7227a> years<MH8141>, <t><p class="indent1">And admonished<MH5749b> them by Your Spirit<MH7307> through<MH3027> Your prophets<MH5030>, <t><p class="indent1">Yet they would not listen<MH238>. <t><p class="indent1">Therefore You handed<MH5414, 3027> them over<MH5414> to the peoples<MH5971a> of the lands<MH776>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/nehemiah/9-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>“Nevertheless, in Your great<MH7227a> compassion<MH7356> You did not make<MH6213a> an end<MH3617> of them or abandon<MH5800a> them, <t><p class="indent1">For You are a gracious<MH2587> and compassionate<MH7349> God<MH410>. <poetry><p class="paragraph"><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/nehemiah/9-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>“Now<MH6258> then, our God<MH430>, the great<MH1419>, the mighty<MH1368>, and the awesome<MH3372a> God<MH410>, who keeps<MH8104> <i>His</i> covenant<MH1285> and faithfulness<MH2617a>, <t><p class="indent1">Do not let all<MH3605> the hardship<MH8513> seem<MH4591> insignificant<MH4591> before<MH6440> You, <t><p class="indent1">Which<MH834> has happened<MH4672> to<MH4672> us, our kings<MH4428>, our leaders<MH8269>, our priests<MH3548>, our prophets<MH5030>, our fathers<MH1>, and to all<MH3605> Your people<MH5971a>, <t><p class="indent1">From the days<MH3117> of the kings<MH4428> of Assyria<MH804b> to this<MH2088> day<MH3117>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/nehemiah/9-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>“However, You are righteous<MH6662> in everything<MH3605> that has happened<MH935> to us;
