<span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>and from<MG2081> inside<MG2081> he answers<MG611> and says<MG3004>, ‘Do not bother<MG2873, 3930> me; the door<MG2374> has already<MG2235> been shut<MG2808> and my children<MG3813> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>and I are in bed<MG2845>; I cannot<MG1410, 3756> get<MG450> up<MG450> and give<MG1325> you <i>anything.</i>’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>I tell<MG3004> you, even<MG2532> if<MG1487> he will not get<MG450> up<MG450> and give<MG1325> him <i>anything just</i> because<MG1223> he is his friend<MG5384>, yet<MG1065> because<MG1223> of his <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>shamelessness<MG335> he will get<MG1453> up<MG1453> and give<MG1325> him as much<MG3745> as he needs<MG5535>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>“So<MG2532> I say<MG3004> to you, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>ask<MG154>, and it will be given<MG1325> to you; <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>seek<MG2212>, and you will find<MG2147>; <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>knock<MG2925>, and it will be opened<MG455> to you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>For everyone<MG3956> who asks<MG154> receives<MG2983>, and the one who seeks<MG2212> finds<MG2147>, and to the one who knocks<MG2925>, it will be opened<MG455>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>which<MG5101> one<MG5101> of you fathers<MG3962> will his son<MG5207> ask<MG154> for a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>fish<MG2486>, and instead<MG473> of<MG473> a fish<MG2486>, he will give<MG1929> him a snake<MG3789>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Or<MG2228> he will even<MG2532> ask<MG154> for an egg<MG5609>, <i>and his father</i> will give<MG1929> him a scorpion<MG4651>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>So<MG3767> if<MG1487> you, <i>despite</i> being<MG5225> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>evil<MG4190>, know<MG3609a> how<MG3609a> to give<MG1325> good<MG18> gifts<MG1390> to your children<MG5043>, how<MG4214> much<MG4214> more<MG3123> will <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>your heavenly<MG1537, 3772> Father<MG3962> give<MG1325> the Holy<MG40> Spirit<MG4151> to those<MG3588> who ask<MG154> Him?” <p class="hdg">Pharisees’ Blasphemy</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And He was casting<MG1544b> out<MG1544b> a mute<MG2974> demon<MG1140>; when the demon<MG1140> had gone<MG1831> out<MG1831>, the man<MG2974> who was <i>previously</i> unable<MG2974> to<MG2974> speak<MG2974> talked<MG2980>, and the crowds<MG3793> were<MG2296> amazed<MG2296>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>But some<MG5100> of them said<MG3004>, “He casts<MG1544b> out<MG1544b> the demons<MG1140> by Beelzebul<MG954>, the ruler<MG758> of the demons<MG1140>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Others<MG2087>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>to test<MG3985> <i>Him,</i> were demanding<MG2212> of Him a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>sign<MG4592> from heaven<MG3772>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>But He knew<MG3609a> their thoughts<MG1270> and said<MG3004> to them, “Every<MG3956> kingdom<MG932> divided<MG1266> against<MG1909> itself<MG1438> is laid<MG2049> waste<MG2049>; and a house<MG3624> <i>divided</i> against<MG1909> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>itself<MG3624> falls<MG4098>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And if<MG1487> Satan<MG4567> also<MG2532> has been divided<MG1266> against<MG1909> himself<MG1438>, how<MG4459> will his kingdom<MG932> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>stand<MG2476>? For you claim<MG3004> that I cast<MG1544b> out<MG1544b> the demons<MG1140> by Beelzebul<MG954>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Yet<MG1161> if<MG1487> by Beelzebul<MG954> I cast<MG1544b> out<MG1544b> the demons<MG1140>, by whom<MG5101> do your sons<MG5207> cast<MG1544b> <i>them</i> out<MG1544b>? Therefore<MG1223, 3778>, they will be your judges<MG2923>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>But if<MG1487> I cast<MG1544b> out<MG1544b> the demons<MG1140> by <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>the finger<MG1147> of God<MG2316>, then<MG686> the kingdom<MG932> of God<MG2316> has come<MG5348> upon you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>When<MG3752> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[u]</a></span>a strong<MG2478> <i>man,</i> fully<MG2528> armed<MG2528>, guards<MG5442> his own<MG1438> house<MG833>, his possessions<MG5225> are <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[v]</a></span>secure<MG1722, 1515>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>But when<MG1875> <i>someone</i> stronger<MG2478> than he attacks<MG1904> him and overpowers<MG3528> him, <i>that man</i> takes<MG142> away<MG142> his armor<MG3833> on which<MG3739> he had relied<MG3982> and distributes<MG1239> his plunder<MG4661>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>The one who is not with Me is against<MG2596> Me; and the one who does not gather<MG4863> with Me scatters<MG4650>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>“When<MG3752> the unclean<MG169> spirit<MG4151> comes<MG1831> out<MG1831> of <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[w]</a></span>a person<MG444>, it passes<MG1330> through<MG1223> waterless<MG504> places<MG5117> seeking<MG2212> rest<MG372>, and not finding<MG2147> <i>any,</i> it then<MG5119> says<MG3004>, ‘I will return<MG5290> to my house<MG3624> from<MG3606> which<MG3606> I came<MG1831>.’ <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>And when it comes<MG2064>, it finds<MG2147> it swept<MG4563> and put<MG2885> in<MG2885> order<MG2885>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>Then<MG5119> it goes<MG4198> and brings<MG3880> along<MG3880> seven<MG2033> other<MG2087> spirits<MG4151> more<MG4190> evil<MG4190> than itself<MG1438>, and they come<MG1525> in<MG1525> and live<MG2730> there<MG1563>; and the last<MG2078> <i>condition</i> of that person<MG444> becomes<MG1096> worse<MG5501> than the first<MG4413>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>While<MG1722> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[x]</a></span>Jesus was saying<MG3004> these<MG3778> things<MG3778>, one<MG5100> of the women<MG1135> in the crowd<MG3793> raised<MG1869> her voice<MG5456> and said<MG3004> to Him, “Blessed<MG3107> is the womb<MG2836> that carried<MG941> You, and the breasts<MG3149> at which<MG3739> You nursed<MG2337>!” <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>But He said<MG3004>, “On the contrary<MG3303a, 3767>, blessed<MG3107> are those<MG3588> who hear<MG191> the word<MG3056> of God<MG2316> and follow<MG5442> it.” <p class="hdg">The Sign of Jonah</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> as the crowds<MG3793> were increasing<MG1865>, He began<MG757> to say<MG3004>, “This<MG3778> generation<MG1074> is a wicked<MG4190> generation<MG1074>; it demands<MG2212> a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[y]</a></span>sign<MG4592>, and <i>so</i> no<MG3756> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[z]</a></span>sign<MG4592> will be given<MG1325> to it except<MG1487, 3361> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[aa]</a></span>sign<MG4592> of Jonah<MG2495>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>For just<MG2531a> as<MG2531a> Jonah<MG2495> became<MG1096> a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[ab]</a></span>sign<MG4592> to the Ninevites<MG3536>, so<MG3779> will the Son<MG5207> of Man<MG444> be to this<MG3778> generation<MG1074>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>The Queen<MG938> of the South<MG3558> will rise<MG1453> up<MG1453> with the men<MG435> of this<MG3778> generation<MG1074> at the judgment<MG2920> and condemn<MG2632> them, because<MG3754> she came<MG2064> from the ends<MG4009> of the earth<MG1093> to listen<MG191> to the wisdom<MG4678> of Solomon<MG4672>; and behold<MG2400>, <i>something</i> greater<MG4183> than Solomon<MG4672> is here<MG5602>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>The men<MG435> of Nineveh<MG3536> will stand<MG450> up<MG450> with this<MG3778> generation<MG1074> at the judgment<MG2920> and condemn<MG2632> it, because<MG3754> they repented<MG3340> at the preaching<MG2782> of Jonah<MG2495>; and behold<MG2400>, <i>something</i> greater<MG4183> than Jonah<MG2495> is here<MG5602>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>“No<MG3762> one<MG3762> lights<MG681> a lamp<MG3088> and puts<MG5087> <i>it away</i> in a cellar<MG2926> nor<MG3761> under<MG5259> a basket<MG3426>, but on the lampstand<MG3087>, so<MG2443> that<MG2443> those<MG3588> who enter<MG1531> may see<MG991> the light<MG5338>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>Your eye<MG3788> is the lamp<MG3088> of your body<MG4983>; when<MG3752> your eye<MG3788> is <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[ac]</a></span>clear<MG573>, your whole<MG3650> body<MG4983> also<MG2532> is full<MG5460> of<MG5460> light<MG5460>; but when<MG1875> it is <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[ad]</a></span>bad<MG4190>, your body<MG4983> also<MG2532> is full<MG4652> of<MG4652> darkness<MG4652>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>So<MG3767> watch<MG4648> out<MG4648> that the light<MG5457> in you is not darkness<MG4655>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>Therefore<MG3767> if<MG1487> your whole<MG3650> body<MG4983> is full<MG5460> of<MG5460> light<MG5460>, without<MG3361, 2192> any<MG5100> dark<MG4652> part<MG3313>, it will be wholly<MG3650> illuminated<MG5460>, as when<MG3752> the lamp<MG3088> illuminates<MG5461> you with its light<MG796>.” <p class="hdg">Woes upon the Pharisees</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>Now<MG1161> when<MG1722> He had spoken<MG2980>, a Pharisee<MG5330> *asked<MG2065> Him to have<MG709> lunch<MG709> with him; and He went<MG1525> in<MG1525> and reclined<MG377> <i>at the table.</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>When the Pharisee<MG5330> saw<MG3708> <i>this,</i> he was<MG2296> surprised<MG2296> that <i>Jesus</i> had not first<MG4413> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[ae]</a></span>ceremonially<MG907> washed<MG907> before<MG4253> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[af]</a></span>meal<MG712>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-39.htm"><b>39</b></a></span>But the Lord<MG2962> said<MG3004> to him, “Now<MG3568> you Pharisees<MG5330> clean<MG2511> the outside<MG1855> of the cup<MG4221> and of the dish<MG4094>; but your inside<MG2081> is full<MG1073> of greed<MG724> and wickedness<MG4189>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-40.htm"><b>40</b></a></span>You foolish<MG878> ones<MG878>, did He who made<MG4160> the outside<MG1855> not make<MG4160> the inside<MG2081> also<MG2532>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-41.htm"><b>41</b></a></span>But give<MG1325> that which is<MG1751> within<MG1751> as a charitable<MG1654> gift<MG1654>, and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[ag]</a></span>then<MG2400> all<MG3956> things<MG3956> are clean<MG2513> for you. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-42.htm"><b>42</b></a></span>“But woe<MG3759> to you Pharisees<MG5330>! For you pay<MG586b> tithes<MG586b> of mint<MG2238>, rue<MG4076>, and every<MG3956> <i>kind of</i> garden<MG3001> herb<MG3001>, and <i>yet</i> you <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[ah]</a></span>ignore<MG3928> justice<MG2920> and the love<MG26> of God<MG2316>; but these<MG3778> are the things<MG3778> you should<MG1163> have done<MG4160> without<MG3361> neglecting<MG3935> the others<MG2548>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-43.htm"><b>43</b></a></span>Woe<MG3759> to you Pharisees<MG5330>! For you love<MG25> the seat<MG4410> of<MG4410> honor<MG4410> in the synagogues<MG4864> and personal<MG783> greetings<MG783> in the marketplaces<MG58>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-44.htm"><b>44</b></a></span>Woe<MG3759> to you! For you are like<MG5613> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[ai]</a></span>unseen<MG82> tombs<MG3419>, and the people<MG444> who walk<MG4043> over<MG1883> <i>them</i> are unaware<MG3756, 3609a> <i>of it.</i>” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-45.htm"><b>45</b></a></span>One<MG5100> of the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[aj]</a></span>lawyers<MG3544> *said<MG3004> to Him in<MG611> reply<MG611>, “Teacher<MG1320>, when You say<MG3004> these<MG3778> things<MG3778>, You insult<MG5195> us too<MG2532>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-46.htm"><b>46</b></a></span>But He said<MG3004>, “Woe<MG3759> to you lawyers<MG3544> as<MG2532> well<MG2532>! For you load<MG5412> people<MG444> with burdens<MG5413> that are hard<MG1419> to<MG1419> bear<MG1419>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[ak]</a></span>while<MG2532> you yourselves<MG846> will not even <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[al]</a></span>touch<MG4379> the burdens<MG5413> with one<MG1520> of your fingers<MG1147>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/luke/11-47.htm"><b>47</b></a></span>Woe<MG3759> to you!
