Local volunteers are on the ground in 191 countries ready to save lives at a moment’s notice.</p><p>Thanks to the generosity of our donors, in 2022-2023:</p><ul><li><strong>260,000+ people</strong> in Canada were supported by the Red Cross after disasters, including wildfires, floods, and severe storms.</li><li><strong>12,000+ Canadians</strong> trained in disaster preparedness training.</li><li><strong>291 Indigenous communities and organizations</strong> supported by our Indigenous Help Desk.</li><li><strong>457,000+ individuals</strong> were trained on opioid poisoning emergencies and 10,233 naloxone kits were distributed.</li><li><strong>1,206 participants in 37 Indigenous communities/organizations</strong> joined in the Indigenous Injury Prevention Safety Program. The program reached 23 new communities and two new provinces/territories.</li><li><strong>22,000+ relief items</strong> were sent from Canada as aid following the earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria.</li><li><strong>$127+ million</strong> in financial contributions to global Red Cross Crescent efforts.</li></ul><p>All of this work would not be possible without our <strong>637,088 donors and partners – including 97,392 monthly supporters.</strong></p><p> </p><h3><a id="Health Equipment Loan Program" name="Health Equipment Loan Program">Health Equipment Loan Program</a></h3><p><a href="/how-we-help/community-health-services-in-canada/health-equipment-loan-program" target="_blank">The Health Equipment Loan Program</a> (HELP) provides health equipment to individuals recovering from illness or injury, empowering them to live with independence and dignity. </p><p>HELP is a volunteer-supported, community-based service made possible through the support of, provincial governments, health authorities, donations of used equipment, donor contributions, and the efforts of thousands of volunteers and professional staff. Canadian Red Cross Health Equipment Loan Programs operate in <a href="/in-your-community/british-columbia-and-yukon/health-equipment-loans" target="_blank">British Columbia</a>, <a href="/in-your-community/alberta/health-equipment-loans" target="_blank">Alberta</a>, <a href="/in-your-community/new-brunswick/health-equipment-loans" target="_blank">New Brunswick</a>, <a href="/in-your-community/prince-edward-island/health-equipment-loans" target="_blank">Prince Edward Island</a>, <a href="/in-your-community/nova-scotia/health-equipment-loans" target="_blank">Nova Scotia</a>, <a href="/in-your-community/newfoundland-and-labrador/health-equipment-loans" target="_blank">Newfoundland and Labrador</a>, and <a href="/in-your-community/british-columbia-and-yukon/health-equipment-loans" target="_blank">Yukon</a> </p><h4>The Basic Health Equipment Loan Program</h4><p><a href="/in-your-community/british-columbia-and-yukon/health-equipment-loans/basic-short-term-program" target="_blank">This program</a> involves equipment needed for three months or less. It assists people recovering from injury, illness or mobility issues. It allows people to return home from hospital earlier and supports individuals in palliative care who wish to spend their final days in the comfort of their own home. </p><h4>Community Health Equipment Services</h4><p>The Canadian Red Cross operates several equipment programs including:</p><ul><li><strong>The <a href="/in-your-community/british-columbia-and-yukon/health-equipment-loans/long-term-program" target="_blank">Long Term Loans</a> Program </strong>which provides home health and mobility equipment like wheelchairs and bathing aids to individuals with chronic but stable conditions in B.C.’s Lower Mainland for as long as the equipment is needed.   </li><li><strong>The Bed Loan Program</strong> which provides loans of home-use electric hospital beds to eligible Atlantic Canadians for as long as needed. Bed delivery, pick up, and installation by a technician is provided in Nova Scotia and some parts of PEI,and Newfoundland and Labrador. In New Brunswick, eligible clients can pick up the units at a local service centre.</li><li><strong>The <a href="/in-your-community/british-columbia-and-yukon/health-equipment-loans/advanced-short-term-program" target="_blank">Advanced Short Term Loans</a> Program</strong> which augments the short-term loan program by providing delivery and technician installation of advanced equipment such as beds and lifts in British Columbia.</li><li><strong>The HELP – Specialized Equipment Program</strong> which provides customized mobility aids and specialized mattresses to Nova Scotians residing in Long- Term Care facilities and to eligible seniors living in New Brunswick.</li><li><strong>The HELP – Community Health Equipment Loans Program</strong> which provides three-month loans of home health and mobility equipment to residents of PEI, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador.
