">Social Psychiatry</li> <li class="list-group-item keyw" data-key="Psychiatry" data-desc="It is the study and treatment of mental illness, emotional disturbances and abnormal behavior. Psychiatry is one of the oldest medical specialties but is also one of the most exciting frontiers of medicine. Recent advances in the neurosciences have led to new technologies in the diagnosis and treatment of many of these illnesses. Psychiatrists use a variety of treatments, including psychotherapy, medication and other treatments.<br /><br />Psychiatry is the medical science that studies and treats mental illness and mental maladjustment. Psychiatrists treat mental disorders; psychologists study mental activities, whether healthy or disordered. ">Psychiatry</li> <li class="list-group-item keyw" data-key="Psychiatry Diseases" data-desc="It includes depression, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder, affect millions of people around the world. Recent studies are helping scientists identify factors that increase the risk of developing a psychiatric disorder, including a person's genetic makeup and exposure to early life stress or brain trauma. Researchers are also finding structural differences in brains of people with some psychiatric disorders. Without intervention, they can have devastating effects and interfere with daily life.">Psychiatry Diseases</li> <li class="list-group-item keyw" data-key="Psycho Trauma" data-desc="Psychological trauma is a type of damage to the psyche that occurs as a result of a traumatic event. A traumatic event involves a singular experience or enduring event or events that completely overwhelm the individual's ability to cope or integrate the ideas and emotions involved with that experience. It is a type of damage to the psyche that occurs as a result of a severely distressing event.<br /><br />Psychological trauma is the unique individual experience of an event or enduring conditions, in which: The individual's ability to integrate his/her emotional experience is overwhelmed.a traumatic event or situation creates psychological trauma when it overwhelms the individual's ability to cope, and leaves that person fearing death, annihilation, mutilation, or psychosis. The individual may feel emotionally, cognitively, and physically overwhelmed. The circumstances of the event commonly include abuse of power, betrayal of trust, entrapment, helplessness, pain, confusion, and/or loss. ">Psycho Trauma</li> <li class="list-group-item keyw" data-key="Posttraumatic Stress" data-desc="Post-traumatic stress (PTS) is a mental health condition that's triggered by a terrifying event - either experiencing it or witnessing it. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event. It develops after a terrifying ordeal that involved physical harm or the threat of physical harm. The person who develops PTS may have been the one who was harmed, the harm may have happened to a loved one, or the person may have witnessed a harmful event that happened to loved ones or strangers.">Posttraumatic Stress</li> <li class="list-group-item keyw" data-key="Psychiatric Symptoms" data-desc="Psychiatric Symptoms includes Changes in Emotion and Motivation - Depression, anxiety, irritability, suspiciousness, blunted, flat or inappropriate emotion, change in appetite, reduced energy and motivation. Changes in Thinking and Perception - Difficulties with concentration or attention, sense of alteration of self, others or the outside world (e.g. feeling that self or others have changed or are acting differently in some way), strange ideas, unusual perceptual experiences (such as a reduction or greater intensity of smell, sound or color), delusions, hallucinations. Changes in Behavior Sleep disturbance, social isolation or withdrawal, reduced ability to carry out work or other roles.">Psychiatric Symptoms</li> <li class="list-group-item keyw" data-key="Psychiatric Treatment" data-desc="The combined treatment of psychiatric medication and psychotherapy has become the most common mode of psychiatric treatment in current practice, but current practice also includes widely ranging variety of other modalities. Treatment may be delivered on an inpatient or outpatient basis, depending on the severity of functional impairment or on other aspects of the disorder in question. Neurocognitive disorders including delirium, mild cognitive impairment and dementia are characterized by decline from a previously attained level of cognitive functioning. These disorders have diverse clinical characteristics and aetiologies, with Alzheimer disease, cerebrovascular disease, Lewy body disease, frontotemporal degeneration, traumatic brain injury, infections, and alcohol abuse representing common causes.">Neurocognative Disorders (NCDs)</li> <li class="list-group-item keyw" data-key="Depression" data-desc="Depression is assessed as a mood disorder. It's going to be described as feelings of sadness, loss, or anger that interfere with a person's everyday activities. It's important to understand that feeling down sometimes may be a normal a part of life. Sad and upsetting events happen to everyone. Depression is taken into account a significant medical condition which will worsen without proper treatment. Those that seek treatment often see improvements in symptoms in only a couple of weeks. For some people, the death of a beloved can cause major depression. Depression is among the foremost treatable of mental disorders. Between 80% and 90% of individuals with depression eventually respond well to treatment. Most patients gain some relief from their symptoms.">Depression</li> <li class="list-group-item keyw" data-key="Mental Illness" data-desc='Mental illness is the degree of mental prosperity or a nonappearance of dysfunctional behavior. It is the condition of somebody who is "working at a good degree of passionate and conduct modification". From the points of view of positive brain science or of comprehensive quality, emotional well-being may incorporate a persons capacity to appreciate life and to make a harmony between life exercises and endeavors to accomplish mental strength. As indicated by the World Health Organization, psychological well-being incorporates "abstract prosperity, saw self-adequacy, self-governance, skill, between generational reliance, and self-realization of one s scholarly and enthusiastic potential, among others".'>Mental Illness</li> <li class="list-group-item keyw" data-key="Neurological disorder" data-desc="A neurological disorder is any disorder of the nervous system. Structural, biochemical or electrical abnormalities in the brain, spinal cord or other nerves can result in a range of symptoms. Examples of symptoms include paralysis, muscle weakness, poor coordination, loss of sensation, seizures, confusion, pain, tauopathies, and altered levels of consciousness. There are many recognized neurological disorders, some relatively common, but many rare. They may be assessed by neurological examination, and studied and treated within the specialties of neurology and clinical neuropsychology.">Neurological disorder</li> <li class="list-group-item keyw" data-key="Neurology" data-desc="Neurology is a branch of medical science that is concerned with disorders and diseases of the nervous system. The term neurology comes from a combination of two words - \"neuron\" meaning nerve and "logia" meaning \"the study of\". There are around a hundred billion neurons in the brain, capable of generating their own impulses and of receiving and transmitting impulses from neighbouring cells. Neurology involves the study of: • The central nervous system, the peripheral nervous system and the autonomic nervous system. • Structural and functional disorders of the nervous system ranging from birth defects through to degenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease.">Neurology</li> <li class="list-group-item keyw" data-key="Alzheimer's disease" data-desc="Alzheimer's is the most common cause of dementia, a general term for memory loss and other cognitive abilities serious enough to interfere with daily life. Alzheimer's disease accounts for 60%-80% of dementia cases. Alzheimer's is not a normal part of aging. The greatest known risk factor is increasing age, and the majority of people with Alzheimer's are 65 and older. Alzheimer's disease is considered to be younger-onset Alzheimer's if it affects a person under 65. Younger-onset can also be referred to as early-onset Alzheimer's. People with younger-onset Alzheimer's can be in the early, middle or late stage of the disease.">Alzheimer's disease</li> <li class="list-group-item keyw" data-key="Parkinson's disease" data-desc="Parkinson's disease is a progressive disorder that affects the nervous system and the parts of the body controlled by the nerves. Symptoms start slowly. The first symptom may be a barely noticeable tremor in just one hand. Tremors are common, but the disorder may also cause stiffness or slowing of movement.">Parkinson's disease</li> </ul> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="col-md-6 mobile-padding pb-3"> <div class="boeder_block content"> <h1 class="headcl mb-3"> President's Message </h1> <h2>President's Message, AFPMH</h2> <p>It is a great pleasure for me to take over the presidency of the AFPMH from our Philippines counterpart. The Federation is now based in Indonesia from 2015 until 2016. Since its birth in 1981, AFPMH has achieved many successes in networking and exchanging knowledge and information. This is achieved through our meeting in the biennial congress and regular online publication of the ASEAN Journal of Psychiatry, which is the official journal of the Federation. From its five original member countries of ASEAN (Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia and Philippines), the Federation has, over the years, increased the participation from other ASEAN countries, which now includes the Indochina region. Recently, during the 14th ASEAN Congress of the AFPMH held in Radisson Blu, Cebu Philippines from 13th to 14th of November 2014, Cambodia which was officially included earlier as our new federation member has continuously become an active member of the federation.</p> <p>ASEAN Journal of Psychiatry was established in 1991 and has since been receiving a steady increase in number of articles from the ASEAN region. Recently, we received publication not only from ASEAN region, but also from Asian region such as Japan, China, India and Iran; Europe including Spain and United Kingdom, New Zealand and other countries. Notably, the journal, a peer-reviewed six-monthly publication, has been reaching its readers regularly since 2007 through its open access online publication (www.aseanjournalofpsychiatry.org). Through this journal, we share and learn from the work of many researchers from the different countries on a variety of mental health and psychiatric issues. Through the journal also, we get to know new people in our large community of mental health professionals. I believe information on mental health issues in ASEAN countries should be provided by ASEAN people. ASEAN Journal of Psychiatry is a good tool to achieve this purpose. Together, we are stronger to pave a new way in disseminating information and updates in managing and improving our people's mental health, blended with the unique multi-ethnic variety and different tradition across this South East Asia region.</p> <p>The journal has excelled in ensuring regular online publication since 2007.  It is worthwhile to note that the AFPMH committee has rightly agreed during the last committee meeting in 13th ASEAN Congress to let Malaysia continue the editorship of the journal in an effort to maintain the journal stability and ensure its future growth. Therefore, the two-yearly rotation of editorship among the member countries has stopped since 2009. To date, up to 26th December 2014, the editorial team has done a good job by adding six databases in the Journal, namely: Mycite, Open-J-Gate, Google Scholar, EBSCO, PsychoInfo and Index Medicus (Western-Pacific Region Index Medicus). So far, we have a strong leadership under our dedicated editor-in-chief, Professor Hatta Sidi from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Under his leadership, we have a strong international Advisory Board Members and recently, many international figures in Psychiatry has been appointed as our Advisory Board Member team.</p> <p>Lastly, I wish to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Professor Hatta Sidi, Professor Srijit Das, Professor Marhani Midin and Associate Professor Nik Ruzyanei Nik Jaafar from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for their outstanding work and for agreeing to continue their duty as the editorial board member from 2014 to 2016.
