The man<MH376> was also a valiant<MH2428> warrior<MH1368>, <i>but</i> afflicted<MH6879> with<MH6879> leprosy<MH6879>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/5-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>Now the Arameans<MH758> had gone<MH3318> out<MH3318> in bands<MH1416> and had taken<MH7617> captive<MH7617> a little<MH6996a> girl<MH5291> from the land<MH776> of Israel<MH3478>; and she <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>waited<MH1961> on Naaman&#8217;s<MH5283> wife<MH802>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/5-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>And she said<MH559> to her mistress<MH1404>, &#8220;If<MH305> only<MH305> my master<MH113> were <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>with the prophet<MH5030> who<MH834> is in Samaria<MH8111>! Then<MH227> he would cure<MH622> him of his leprosy<MH6883>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/5-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>And <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>Naaman went<MH935> in<MH935> and told<MH5046> his master<MH113>, saying<MH559>, &#8220;The girl<MH5291> who<MH834> is from the land<MH776> of Israel<MH3478> spoke<MH1696> such<MH2088> and such<MH2088>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/5-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>Then the king<MH4428> of Aram<MH758> said<MH559>, &#8220;Go<MH1980> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>now<MH935>, and I will send<MH7971> a letter<MH5612> to the king<MH4428> of Israel<MH3478>.&#8221; So he departed<MH1980> and took<MH3947> with him ten<MH6235> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>talents<MH3603> of silver<MH3701>, six<MH8337a> thousand<MH505> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span><i>shekels</i> of gold<MH2091>, and ten<MH6235> changes<MH2487> of clothes<MH899b>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/5-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>And he brought<MH935> the letter<MH5612> to the king<MH4428> of Israel<MH3478>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>which said<MH559>, &#8220;And now<MH6258> as this<MH2088> letter<MH5612> comes<MH935> to you, behold<MH2009>, I have sent<MH7971> Naaman<MH5283> my servant<MH5650> to you, so that you may cure<MH622> him of his leprosy<MH6883>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/5-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>But when the king<MH4428> of Israel<MH3478> read<MH7121> the letter<MH5612>, he tore<MH7167> his clothes<MH899b> and said<MH559>, &#8220;Am I God<MH430>, to kill<MH4191> and to keep<MH2421a> alive<MH2421a>, that this<MH2088> man is sending<MH7971> <i>word</i> to me to cure<MH622> a man<MH376> of his leprosy<MH6883>? But consider<MH3045> now<MH4994>, and see<MH7200> how<MH3588> he is seeking<MH579> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>a<MH579> quarrel<MH579> against me.&#8221; <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/5-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Now it happened<MH1961>, when Elisha<MH477> the man<MH376> of God<MH430> heard<MH8085> that the king<MH4428> of Israel<MH3478> had torn<MH7167> his clothes<MH899b>, that he sent<MH7971> <i>word</i> to the king<MH4428>, saying<MH559>, &#8220;Why<MH4100> did you tear<MH7167> your clothes<MH899b>? Just<MH4994> have him come<MH935> to me, and he shall learn<MH3045> that there<MH3426> is<MH3426> a prophet<MH5030> in Israel<MH3478>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/5-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>So Naaman<MH5283> came<MH935> with his horses<MH5483b> and his chariots<MH7393>, and stood<MH5975> at the doorway<MH6607> of Elisha&#8217;s<MH477> house<MH1004>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/5-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>And Elisha<MH477> sent<MH7971> a messenger<MH4397> to him, saying<MH559>, &#8220;Go<MH1980> and wash<MH7364> in the Jordan<MH3383> seven<MH7651> times<MH6471>, and your flesh<MH1320> will be restored<MH7725> to you and <i>you will</i> be<MH2891> clean<MH2891>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/5-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>But Naaman<MH5283> was<MH7107> furious<MH7107> and went<MH1980> away, and he said<MH559>, &#8220;Behold<MH2009>, I <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>thought<MH559>, &#8216;He will certainly<MH3318> come<MH3318> out<MH3318> to me, and stand<MH5975> and call<MH7121> on the name<MH8034> of the LORD<MH3068> his God<MH430>, and wave<MH5130> his hand<MH3027> over<MH413> the site<MH4725> and cure<MH622> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>leprosy<MH6879>.&#8217; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/5-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Are <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>Abanah<MH71> and Pharpar<MH6554>, the rivers<MH5104> of Damascus<MH1834>, not better<MH2896a> than<MH4480> all<MH3605> the waters<MH4325> of Israel<MH3478>? Could I not wash<MH7364> in them and be<MH2891> clean<MH2891>?&#8221; So he turned<MH6437> and went<MH1980> away in a rage<MH2534>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/5-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Then his servants<MH5650> approached<MH5066> and spoke<MH1696> to him, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>saying<MH559>, &#8220;My father<MH1>, had the prophet<MH5030> told<MH1696> you <i>to do some</i> great<MH1419> thing<MH1697>, would you not have done<MH6213a> <i>it?</i> How<MH637> much<MH637, 3588> more<MH637, 3588> <i>then,</i> when<MH3588> he says<MH559> to you, &#8216;Wash<MH7364>, and be<MH2891> clean<MH2891>&#8217;?&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/5-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>So he went<MH3381> down<MH3381> and dipped<MH2881> <i>himself</i> in the Jordan<MH3383> seven<MH7651> times<MH6471>, in accordance with the word<MH1697> of the man<MH376> of God<MH430>; and his flesh<MH1320> was restored<MH7725> like the flesh<MH1320> of a little<MH6996b> child<MH5288>, and he was<MH2891> clean<MH2891>. <p class="hdg">Gehazi&#8217;s Greed</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/5-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>Then he returned<MH7725> to the man<MH376> of God<MH430> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>with all<MH3605> his company<MH4264>, and came<MH935> and stood<MH5975> before<MH6440> him. And he said<MH559>, &#8220;Behold<MH2009> now<MH4994>, I know<MH3045> that there<MH369> is<MH369> no<MH369> God<MH430> in all<MH3605> the earth<MH776>, except<MH3588, 518> in Israel<MH3478>; so please<MH4994> accept<MH3947> a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>gift<MH1293> from your servant<MH5650> now<MH6258>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/5-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>But he said<MH559>, &#8220;As <i>surely as</i> the LORD<MH3068> lives<MH2416a>, before<MH6440> whom<MH834> I stand<MH5975>, I will accept<MH3947> nothing<MH518>.&#8221; And he urged<MH6484> him to accept<MH3947> <i>it,</i> but he refused<MH3985>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/5-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>Then Naaman<MH5283> said<MH559>, &#8220;If not, please<MH4994> let your servant<MH5650> be given<MH5414> two<MH6776> mules&#8217;<MH6505> load<MH4853a> of earth<MH127>; for your servant<MH5650> will no<MH3808> longer<MH5750> offer<MH6213a> a burnt<MH5930a> offering<MH5930a> nor<MH3808> a sacrifice<MH2077> to other<MH312> gods<MH430>, but to the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/5-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>Regarding this<MH2088> matter<MH1697> may the LORD<MH3068> forgive<MH5545> your servant<MH5650>: when my master<MH113> goes<MH935> into the house<MH1004> of Rimmon<MH7417a> to worship<MH2331c> there<MH8033>, and he leans<MH8172> on my hand<MH3027> and I bow<MH2331c> down<MH2331c> in the house<MH1004> of Rimmon<MH7417a>, when I bow<MH2331c> down<MH2331c> in the house<MH1004> of Rimmon<MH7417a>, may the LORD<MH3068> please<MH4994> forgive<MH5545> your servant<MH5650> in this<MH2088> matter<MH1697>.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/5-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>He said<MH559> to him, &#8220;Go<MH1980> in peace<MH7965>.&#8221; So he went<MH1980> some<MH3530> distance<MH3530, 776> from him. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/5-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>But Gehazi<MH1522>, the servant<MH5288> of Elisha<MH477> the man<MH376> of God<MH430>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>thought<MH559>, &#8220;Behold<MH2009>, my master<MH113> has spared<MH2820> this<MH2088> Naaman<MH5283> the Aramean<MH761>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>by not accepting<MH3947> from his hand<MH3027> what<MH834> he brought<MH935>. As the LORD<MH3068> lives<MH2416a>, I will run<MH7323> after<MH310> him and take<MH3947> something<MH3972> from him.&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/5-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>So Gehazi<MH1522> pursued<MH7291> Naaman<MH5283>. When Naaman<MH5283> saw<MH7200> <i>someone</i> running<MH7323> after<MH310> him, he came<MH5307> down<MH5307> from the chariot<MH4818> to meet<MH7122> him and said<MH559>, &#8220;<i>Is everything</i> well<MH7965>?&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/5-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>And he said<MH559>, &#8220;<i>Everything is</i> well<MH7965>. My master<MH113> has sent<MH7971> me, saying<MH559>, &#8216;Behold<MH2009>, just<MH2088> now<MH6258> two<MH8147> young<MH5288> men<MH5288> of the sons<MH1121> of the prophets<MH5030> have come<MH935> to me from the hill<MH2022> country<MH2022> of Ephraim<MH669>. Please<MH4994> give<MH5414> them a talent<MH3603> of silver<MH3701> and two<MH8147> changes<MH2487> of clothes<MH899b>.&#8217;&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/5-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>Naaman<MH5283> said<MH559>, &#8220;Be<MH2974> sure<MH2974> to take<MH3947> two talents<MH3603>.&#8221; And he urged<MH6555> him, and tied<MH6696a> up<MH6696a> two talents<MH3603> of silver<MH3701> in two<MH8147> bags<MH2754> with two<MH8147> changes<MH2487> of clothes<MH899b>, and gave<MH5414> <i>them</i> to two<MH8147> of his servants<MH5288>; and they carried<MH5375> <i>them</i> before<MH6440> him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/5-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>When he came<MH935> to the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>hill<MH6076a>, he took<MH3947> them from their hand<MH3027> and deposited<MH6485> them in the house<MH1004>, and he sent<MH7971> the men<MH376> away<MH7971>, and they departed<MH1980>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/5-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>But he went<MH935> in<MH935> and stood<MH5975> before<MH413> his master<MH113>. And Elisha<MH477> said<MH559> to him, &#8220;Where<MH575> have you been, Gehazi<MH1522>?&#8221; And he said<MH559>, &#8220;Your servant<MH5650> went<MH1980> nowhere<MH3808, 575>.&#8221; <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/2_kings/5-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>Then he said<MH559> to him, &#8220;Did my heart<MH3820> not go<MH1980> <i>with you,</i> when<MH3512c> the man<MH376> turned<MH2015> from his chariot<MH4818> to meet<MH7122> you?
