declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>, &#8220;I will be the God<MH430> of all<MH3605> the families<MH4940> of Israel<MH3478>, and they shall be My people<MH5971a>.&#8221; <poetry><p class="paragraph"><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/31-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068> says<MH559>: <p class="indent1stline">&#8220;The people<MH5971a> who<MH8300> survived<MH8300> the sword<MH2719> <t><p class="indent1">Found<MH4672> grace<MH2580> in the wilderness<MH4057b>&#8212; <t><p class="indent1">Israel<MH3478>, when it went<MH1980> to find<MH7280b> its rest<MH7280b>.&#8221; <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/31-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>The LORD<MH3068> appeared<MH7200> to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>him <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>long<MH7350> ago<MH7350>, <i>saying,</i> <t><p class="indent1">&#8220;I have loved<MH157> you with an everlasting<MH5769> love<MH160>; <t><p class="indent1">Proclaim<MH8085>, give<MH1984b> praise<MH1984b>, and say<MH559>, <t><p class="indent1">&#8216;LORD<MH3068>, save<MH3467> Your people<MH5971a>, <t><p class="indent1">The remnant<MH7611> of Israel<MH3478>!&#8217; <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/31-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>&#8220;Behold<MH2009>, I am bringing<MH935> them from the north<MH6828> country<MH776>, <t><p class="indent1">And I will gather<MH6908> them from the remote<MH3411> parts<MH3411> of the earth<MH776>, <t><p class="indent1">Among them those who are blind<MH5787> and those who limp<MH6455>, <t><p class="indent1">The pregnant<MH2030> woman<MH2030> and she who is in<MH3205> labor<MH3205>, together<MH3164a>; <t><p class="indent1">They will return<MH7725> here<MH2008> as a great<MH1419> assembly<MH6951>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/31-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>&#8220;They will come<MH935> with weeping<MH1065>, <t><p class="indent1">And by pleading<MH8469> I will bring<MH2986> them; <t><p class="indent1">I will lead<MH1980> them by streams<MH5158a> of waters<MH4325>, <t><p class="indent1">On a straight<MH3477> path<MH1870> on which they will not stumble<MH3782>; <t><p class="indent1">For I am<MH1961> a father<MH1> to Israel<MH3478>, <t><p class="indent1">And Ephraim<MH669> is My firstborn<MH1060>.&#8221; <poetry><p class="paragraph"><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/31-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Hear<MH8085> the word<MH1697> of the LORD<MH3068>, you nations<MH1471>, <t><p class="indent1">And declare<MH5046> <i>it</i> in the coastlands<MH339> far<MH4801> away<MH4801>, <t><p class="indent1">And say<MH559>, &#8220;He who scattered<MH2219> Israel<MH3478> will gather<MH6908> him, <t><p class="indent1">And He will keep<MH8104> him as a shepherd<MH7462a> <i>keeps</i> his flock<MH5739>.&#8221; <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/31-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>For the LORD<MH3068> has ransomed<MH6299> Jacob<MH3290> <t><p class="indent1">And redeemed<MH1350> him from the hand<MH3027> of him who was stronger<MH2389> than<MH4480> he. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/31-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>&#8220;They will come<MH935> and shout<MH7442> for<MH7442> joy<MH7442> on the height<MH4791> of Zion<MH6726>, <t><p class="indent1">And they will be radiant<MH5102b> over<MH413> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>bounty<MH2898> of the LORD<MH3068>&#8212; <t><p class="indent1">She refuses<MH3985> to be comforted<MH5162> for her children<MH1121>, <t><p class="indent1">Because<MH3588> they are no<MH369> more<MH369>.&#8221; <A><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/31-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068> says<MH559>: <p class="indent1stline">&#8220;Restrain<MH4513> your voice<MH6963> from weeping<MH1065> <t><p class="indent1">And your eyes<MH5869> from tears<MH1832>; <t><p class="indent1">For your work<MH6468> will be rewarded<MH7939>,&#8221; declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>, <p class="indent1stline">&#8220;And they will return<MH7725> from the land<MH776> of the enemy<MH340>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/31-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>&#8220;There<MH3426> is<MH3426> hope<MH8615b> for your future<MH319>,&#8221; <t><p class="indent1">Direct<MH7896> your <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>mind<MH3820> to the highway<MH4546>, <t><p class="indent1">The way<MH1870> by which you went<MH1980>. <t><p class="indent1">Return<MH7725>, O virgin<MH1330> of Israel<MH3478>, <t><p class="indent1">Return<MH7725> to these<MH428> your cities<MH5892b>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/31-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>&#8220;How<MH4970> long<MH5704, 4970> will you waver<MH2559>, <t><p class="indent1">You rebellious<MH7728> daughter<MH1323>? <t><p class="indent1">For the LORD<MH3068> has created<MH1254a> a new<MH2319> thing<MH2319> on the earth<MH776>: <p class="indent1stline">A woman<MH5347> will shelter<MH5437> a man<MH1397>.&#8221; <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/31-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635>, the God<MH430> of Israel<MH3478> says<MH559>: &#8220;Once again<MH5750> they will speak<MH559> this<MH2088> word<MH1697> in the land<MH776> of Judah<MH3063> and in its cities<MH5892b> when I restore<MH7725> their fortunes<MH7622>, <t><p class="indent1">&#8216;The LORD<MH3068> bless<MH1288> you, O place<MH5116a> of righteousness<MH6664>, <t><p class="indent1">O holy<MH6944> hill<MH2022>!&#8217; <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/31-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>At this<MH2088> I awoke<MH7019a> and looked<MH7200>, and my sleep<MH8142> had been pleasant<MH6149> to me. <p class="hdg">A New Covenant</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/31-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>&#8220;Behold<MH2009>, days<MH3117> are coming<MH935>,&#8221; declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>, &#8220;when I will sow<MH2232> the house<MH1004> of Israel<MH3478> and the house<MH1004> of Judah<MH3063> with the seed<MH2233> of mankind<MH120> and the seed<MH2233> of animals<MH929>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/31-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>And just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> I have watched<MH8245> over<MH5921> them to uproot<MH5428> <i>them,</i> tear<MH5422> <i>them</i> down<MH5422>, ruin<MH2040>, destroy<MH6>, and bring<MH7489a> disaster<MH7489a> <i>on them,</i> so<MH3651> I will watch<MH8245> over<MH5921> them to build<MH1129> and to plant<MH5193> <i>them,</i>&#8221; declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/31-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>&#8220;In those<MH1992a> days<MH3117> they will no<MH3808> longer<MH5750> say<MH559>, <t><p class="indent1">&#8216;The fathers<MH1> have eaten<MH398> sour<MH1155> grapes<MH1155>, <t><p class="indent1"><span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>But <i>it is</i> the children&#8217;s<MH1121> teeth<MH8127> <i>that</i> have become<MH6949a> blunt<MH6949a>.&#8217; declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>, &#8220;when I will make<MH3772> a new<MH2319> covenant<MH1285> with the house<MH1004> of Israel<MH3478> and the house<MH1004> of Judah<MH3063>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/31-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>not like the covenant<MH1285> which<MH834> I made<MH3772> with their fathers<MH1> on the day<MH3117> I took<MH2388> them by the hand<MH3027> to bring<MH3318> them out<MH3318> of the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714>, My covenant<MH1285> which<MH834> they broke<MH6565a>, although I was<MH1166> a<MH1166> husband<MH1166> to them,&#8221; declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/31-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>&#8220;For this<MH2088> is the covenant<MH1285> which<MH834> I will make<MH3772> with the house<MH1004> of Israel<MH3478> after<MH310> those<MH1992a> days<MH3117>,&#8221; declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>: &#8220;I will put<MH5414> My law<MH8451> within<MH7130> them and write<MH3789> it on their heart<MH3820>; and I will be their God<MH430>, and they shall be My people<MH5971a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/31-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>They will not teach<MH3925> again<MH5750>, each<MH376> one<MH376> his neighbor<MH7453> and each<MH376> one<MH376> his brother<MH251>, saying<MH559>, &#8216;Know<MH3045> the LORD<MH3068>,&#8217; for they will all<MH3605> know<MH3045> Me, from the least<MH6996a> of them to the greatest<MH1419> of them,&#8221; declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>, &#8220;for I will forgive<MH5545> their wrongdoing<MH5771>, and their sin<MH2403b> I will no<MH3808> longer<MH5750> remember<MH2142>.&#8221; <t><p class="indent1">The LORD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635> is His name<MH8034>: <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/31-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>&#8220;If<MH518> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>this<MH428> fixed<MH2706> order<MH2706> departs<MH4185> <t><p class="indent1">From Me,&#8221; declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>, <p class="indent1stline">&#8220;Then the descendants<MH2233> of Israel<MH3478> also<MH1571> will cease<MH7673a> <t><p class="indent1">To be<MH1961> a nation<MH1471> before<MH6440> Me <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>forever<MH3605, 3117>.&#8221;
