The concept of command and leadership is a recurring theme in the Bible, reflecting God's order and authority. This structure is seen throughout Israel's history, from Moses and Joshua to the kings and prophets.
was Eleazar son of Dodo the Ahohite
Eleazar is identified as the son of Dodo, which helps to distinguish him from other individuals with the same name. The mention of his lineage emphasizes the importance of family heritage in biblical times. The term "Ahohite" likely refers to his clan or family group, possibly linked to the descendants of Ahoah, a descendant of Benjamin. This connection to the tribe of Benjamin is significant, as it highlights the diverse tribal representation in David's army.
one of the three mighty men
Eleazar is noted as one of the "three mighty men," a title given to the most elite warriors in David's forces. These men were renowned for their bravery and exceptional feats in battle. The "three mighty men" are often compared to the "thirty," a larger group of valiant warriors. This distinction underscores the extraordinary valor and skill of Eleazar and his companions.
