immune systems. Healthy persons infected with <em>Salmonella</em> often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. Healthy persons infected with <em>Salmonella</em> often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with <em>Salmonella</em> can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.</p> <p>The recalled "Snackies" were distributed nationwide in retail stores and through mail orders.</p> <p>The product comes in a 5 ounce, clear plastic package marked with lot # 666666 on the top and with an expiration date of 12/12/99 stamped on the side.</p> <p>No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.</p> <p>The potential for contamination was noted after routine testing by the company revealed the presence of <em>Salmonella</em> in some 5 ounce packages of "Snackies."</p> <p>Production of the product has been suspended while FDA and the company continue their investigation as to the source of the problem.</p> <p>Consumers who have purchased 5 ounce packages of "Snackies" are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
