INSTRUCTIONS </a> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="col-md-9 long-left-padding"> <h3>Presenter Instructions</h3> <h4 id="oral_sessions" class="tall-header">Oral Sessions</h4> <ul> <li>Oral talks will use their own laptop. The projectors will be setup for 16:9 format, 1280x720 native and will accept other resolutions (including 4:3 formats such as 1024x768) and rescale for display.</li> <li>The projectors will have native HDMI connectors and converters for VGA.</li> <li>Oral talks are given 12 minutes. Additional 2 minutes are allocated for questions by the session chairs, switching between speakers and introducing the next speaker. You will be asked to leave the podium once your time is up. Please make sure you do not exceed the given time limit.</li> <li>Each oral presenter will also present their work as a poster. Your poster is scheduled for the interactive session following the oral session of your paper. This is a good opportunity to expose the work further and get extra feedback from the CVPR attendees.</li> <li>Oral presenters should be present at the podium (in the correct room) at least 10 minutes before the start of the session and should introduce themselves to the session chairs as soon as they arrive. </li> <li>You can find your session <a class="hyperlinks" href="/program/main_conference"><b>here</b></a>.</li> <li>Your talk will be recorded. You accepted or rejected release with your copyright form. If you did not give permission to record your talk, please let the Program Chairs know. <li>If you require any special assistance during to get to the podium or during your talk, please let the session chair know of this before the session or email the Program Chairs.</li> <li>Oral speakers should test their own laptops with the projector before the session, to avoid any technical difficulties.</li> </ul> <h4 id="spotloght_sessions" class="tall-header">Spotlight Presentation</h4> <ul> <li> For your spotlight presentations this year, there is only one format: MP4 video of the slides with resolution of 1280x720 HP preferred. This will enable us to load all talks onto the same laptop without any configuration/format issues while allowing presenters to use whatever graphics/video tools they choose to generate the presentation. Presentations should be limited to 3 minutes and 55 seconds with the next speaker's video starting automatically at the 4-minute mark. The videos will be combined into one large video that will play each in turn; there will be no presenter control and the next presentation will just start. If your video is longer than 3:55 it will be truncated. If your video is not in the proper format, it will be converted as best as our automated tool will do and probably of lower quality and could even be solid black. </li> <li> The session chairs will not be introducing each spotlight, therefore, please ensure your video starts with a title slide. When presenting introduce yourself. There will be no time allotted for "questions" after each spotlight. As usual, any projected Text/Math should use at least 24 point font (and ideally should be >32pt) as smaller fonts will not be readable in a room with 2000+ people. </li> <li> In addition to your oral presentation, please remember to prepare a poster for your paper which will be presented in the interactive session following your spotlight.  </li> </ul> <h5>Short oral Video/Slide Presentation formatting </h5> <ul> <li>Spotlight slides need to be converted to video. You will talk during the video just as you would with the slides. The difference is that the timing will be automatic and consistent. This should be used as a visual aid to your live presentation, i.e., you will be talking in front of this video as it plays projected on the main screen. Note that the audio channel from your submitted video will NOT be used unless you make a special request. There will be a speaker's monitor on the stage, so you can see what is being projected without turning to look at the screen. You will be allowed to bring up notes for the talk, e.g., a tablet/laptop with your presentation notes for local viewing. This format of presentation will allow you to practice your talk with the exact timing needed for the rapid short oral session. You can also add a narration and post it on Youtube or your webpage. </li> <li> The video should be at exactly 3 min and 55 sec long (no more, no less). It should start with a title slide which you can extend in timing to fit the exact 3:55. The video MUST be .MP4 (Mpeg4), HD resolution (720p preferred), with H264 encoding (This is the default codec for almost all MP4 encoders). It should NOT be an AVI file or a MOV but a proper MP4 (and don't just rename it). You might use Youtube or FFMPEG to convert formats. </li> <li> If you prepare your presentation using PowerPoint you can time your slides and save the presentation as a WMV video directly from PowerPoint. Some instructions on how to do this can be found <a class="hyperlinks" href="https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Turn-your-presentation-into-a-video-c140551f-cb37-4818-b5d4-3e30815c3e83" target="_blank">here</a>. You will then need to convert the WMV video into MP4 (e.g. via Youtube or FFMPEG). </li> <li> Alternatively, there are many free screen capture programs that directly produce proper MP4: <ul> <li><a href="http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html" target="_blank">VLC</a> which works on all platforms.</li> <li><a href="https://obsproject.com/" target="_blank">OBS</a> for windows, mac or linux. </li> <li>For windows 10 there is the <a class="hyperlinks" href="http://betanews.com/2015/07/19/windows-10-secret-screen-recording-tool/" target="_blank">built-in recorder</a>.</li> <li>For windows there is also <a class="hyperlinks" href="http://tinytake.com" target="_blank">TinyTake</a>.</li> <li>For Mac there is the built in QuickTime (which will need to be exported as MP4 as the default is MOV). </li> <li>If you only have video recorders producing other formats, e.g. avi , Youtube may be able to convert for you. If not try <a class="hyperlinks" href="https://ffmpeg.org/" target="_blank"> FFMPEG </a> (<font face="Courier New, Courier, monospace">ffmpeg -i source_video.avi input -acodec aac -ab 128kb -vcodec mpeg4 -b 8000kb -mbd 2 -flags +4mv +trell -aic 2 -cmp 2 -subcmp 2 -s 1280x720 -title X PAPERNUMBER.mp4</font>). </li> <li>One can even use FFMPEG to create a video from slides, but screen recording is far easier.</li> </ul> </li> </ul> <h5>Instructions on how to submit your Spotlight presentation</h5> <font color="red"> <p><b>Late spotlight video submissions!</b></p> <p>Spotlight video submission deadline <b>WAS</b> Monday, June 11th at 9:00 AM, Mountain Daylight Time (MDT). We strongly encourage you to submit your video spotlight presentations within the next few hours. By failing to do so, you will put yourself at a very high risk of missing your spotlight presentation.</p> </font> <ol> <li> Create your spotlight presentation file (.MP4 file as explained above), named PAPERNUMBER.mp4 where PAPERNUMBER is your CVPR paper number. </li> <li> Between May 25 and June 11 you can go to <font color="blue"><a class="hyperlinks" href="http://cvpr.vast.uccs.edu" target="_blank">http://cvpr.vast.uccs.edu</a></font>. </li> <li>Click on upload.</li> <li>"Enter your paper number and title. </li> <li>Click on "Upload" to upload the ".MP4" file.</li> <li>Note that the deadline for this is <b>9 AM (yes morning) Mountain Daylight Time (MDT), Monday June 11</b>. There will be no extensions.</li> <li>Check that the author received an email confirmation of the successful upload (may take 10 - 15 minutes).</li> </ol> </li> </ul> <h4 id="poster_sessions" class="tall-header">Poster Sessions</h4> <ul> <li>Each poster is assigned a specific poster location in the exhibition hall in the form of [Letter Number] (e.g., [D17]). The letter indicates the row and the number the location within the row (see <a class="hyperlinks" target="_blank" href="https://iebms.heiexpo.com/iebms/oep/oep_p5_floorplan.aspx?oc=16&ct=OEP&eventid=5019&fullscreen=Y">the Floor Plan</a>). Poster locations will be specified in the conference pocket guide next to the paper's title [pocket guide coming soon]. The location of these posters will also be provided on the CVPR app as well. Check with the volunteers or the registration desk if you cannot find your poster board. </li> <li> The physical dimensions of the poster stands that will be available this year are 8 feet wide by 4 feet high. Please review the <a class="hyperlinks" href="/files/cvpr18_poster_template_n.pptx" target="_blank">CVPR18 poster template</a> for more details on how to prepare your poster. You do not need to use this template, but please read the instructions carefully and prepare your posters accordingly. </li> <li> Poster presenters are asked to install their posters during breakfast (between 7:30 and 9:00). All posters will be up all day, but you need to be at your poster during your assigned session. Please remove posters promptly at the conclusion of each afternoon poster session. </li> </ul> <h5>Poster printing:</h5>  <ul> <li><a class="hyperlinks" href="https://www.alphagraphics.com/centers/salt-lake-city-utah-us026.html" target="_blank">Alpha Graphics</a> is our recommended printer for posters in Salt Lake City. </li> <li>You can upload your file <a class="hyperlinks" href="https://www.alphagraphics.com/centers/salt-lake-city-utah-us026/send-file.html" target="_blank">Send a File</a>.</li> <li>Please reference CVPR and Brent Matosich.</li> <li>We have two different options for the pricing.</li> <ol> <li>36# matte poster paper. You are looking at $75.00 each on these at 48" x 96".</li> <li>Luster photo paper. You are looking at $125.00 each on these at 48" x 96".</li> </ol> <li>The poster printer is only open Monday – Friday 8AM – 6PM CT.</li> <li>Note when you need it delivered by. They need at least 36 hours for production. If you need something rushed – they can produce it for an upcharge.</li> <li>Once order is received, you will get a payment link. Production will not start until payment is received.</li> <li>You will be able to pick up your poster in the registration area onsite at the convention center. The review process for all papers was double-blind. Each paper was reviewed by at least three reviewers. The review process included a chance for authors to provide a rebuttal to address issues raised by the reviewers. Reviewers had the opportunity to read the authors' rebuttal and change their initial review scores. The final accept/reject decisions for each paper were made by a triplet of three area chairs who consider the paper, the rebuttal, and the reviewers' scores and comments. In the end, 29% of the papers were accepted.</p> <p>After the acceptance decisions were made, the presentation mode of each paper has determined based on the area chairs' recommendations (poster, spotlight, or oral). All accepted papers, regardless of presentation mode, appear in the proceedings as full-length papers.
