Firstly, what was the first piece of music you bought as a youngun. Whether it was a 7" single, a cassingle, or even a CD Single, it has to be something you actually went out and brought yourself, not something that nanna gave you for your birthday or Xmas.<br>Second one was what retro stuff are you listening to at the moment. "Girl Crazy" by Hot Chocolate. I brought it at a market for a $1 to impress some girl I was after, and I was 12 years old at the time.<br>But I do class buying Michael Jackson's "Thriller" when I was 13 on cassette from K-Mart as my first official purchase.<br>-----------------------------------------------------------------------------<br>I am currently going through the "Now That's What I Call Music" collection from the UK. Rockmelons - It's Not Over Til It's Over & Prince - My Name Is Prince. Unfortunately that night I went to a party down the road & some meanie pinched them outta my jacket pocket, I never found them.<br><br>2) I remember working at the Casula mall for awhile, And I remember buying Pearl Jam - Go on CD single & Supergroove's You Gotta Know. I went back to the Court Tavern in Campbelltown where my dad was drinking after work & for some strange reason I left the CD's with my dad. Unfortunately he did not remember to pick them up & bring them home to me.<br><br>3) My first official purchase was at K-Mart in Hurstville, Sydney. That night me & my g/f were going to see Forrest Gump. I walked past the CD section & bought Zombie by The Cranberries.<br><br>I'm currently archiving 1992/93 (i.e Top 100 of the year & Singles that went Top 10) & anything that gets posted pre 1989 that went Top 10. My first cassingle I bought (well, I got my mum to buy for me) was "You're History" by Shakespeares Sister. The first cassette I actually bought was Eurythmics "We Too Are One". By the time I grew an interest in collecting music, vinyl was long gone, but cassettes were the thing. Ha, I have so many cassettes in a box at my parent's home somewhere in the garage. I have most of them in mp3 now, thank god for the digital age! I'm pretty sure the Kylie CD is still in my collection, although CDs used to get sold then re-bought so often. First 7" was Alf "Stuck On Earth" and first cassingle "Like A Prayer".<br><br>As for the retro stuff, I have every major record compilation since 1970, and major CD compilation since Summer '87. The best source of retro gems there is!!! And so much better than the "retro gems" the radio plays today. I'm so glad I started collecting them as a youngster. I try and play one every few days. So far I've done A to E in the alphabet and I'm only missing three songs:<br>Cheetah - Walking In The Rain (1978)<br>Dukes Of Earlwood feat. Armondo Hurley - Duke Of Earl (1988)<br>Euphoria - Do For You (1992)<br><br>It's funny that James mentioned that Duke Of Earl was one of the first singles he owned. I doubt there would be too many copies of the 1988 version around these days.<br><br>In response to thread subject of old music that I'm listening to, here are a list of 10 songs I've rediscovered so far that all made the top five in the 80's (one from each year).
