I have put my Spirit upon him so that he shall bring judgment to the nations<p> <A name="3"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/42-2.htm#aramaic"><b>2</b></a></span>He shall not cry out and he shall not clamor and he shall not make his voice heard in the street<p> <A name="4"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/42-3.htm#aramaic"><b>3</b></a></span>A fractured reed he shall not break and the lamp that flickers he shall not extinguish. In the truth he shall bring out judgment<p> <A name="5"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/42-4.htm#aramaic"><b>4</b></a></span>It will not go out and it will not flicker until he will set judgment in the earth and the islands shall expect his law<p> <A name="6"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/42-5.htm#aramaic"><b>5</b></a></span>Thus says LORD JEHOVAH God who created the Heavens, and stretched them out and spread out the Earth and everything in it, and he gave breath to the people upon it, and spirit to those who walk in it<p> <A name="7"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/42-6.htm#aramaic"><b>6</b></a></span>I, LORD JEHOVAH, I have called you in righteousness and I held your hand and I have empowered you, and I have given you as a covenant to the people and a light to the nations<p> <A name="8"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/42-7.htm#aramaic"><b>7</b></a></span>That you will open the eyes of the blind and you will bring out the prisoners from imprisonment and those who dwell in darkness from the house of prisoners<p> <A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/42-8.htm#aramaic"><b>8</b></a></span>I AM LORD JEHOVAH, and this is My Name, and my honor I shall not give to another, neither my praise to carved things<p> <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/42-9.htm#aramaic"><b>9</b></a></span>I show new things and former things, behold, they have come, and until they will spring up I have made them to be heard by you<p> <A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/42-10.htm#aramaic"><b>10</b></a></span>The song of Eshaiya: &#8216;Sing to LORD JEHOVAH a new song, his glory from the ends of the Earth. Those going down to the sea in its fullness, and the islands and those who dwell in them<p> <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/42-11.htm#aramaic"><b>11</b></a></span>The wilderness shall rejoice and its towns and meadows will be Qedar, and the dwellers of the cliffs shall sing, and from the tops of the mountains they shall cry out<p> <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/42-12.htm#aramaic"><b>12</b></a></span>And they will give glory to LORD JEHOVAH, and his praises they shall show in the islands!<p> <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/42-13.htm#aramaic"><b>13</b></a></span>LORD JEHOVAH shall come forth as a Giant, and like a warrior he shall provoke zeal. He shall shout and shall be valiant and he shall kill his enemies<p> <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/42-14.htm#aramaic"><b>14</b></a></span>I have been silent from eternity. I shall be silent. I endured as a woman in labor. I shall be speechless and I shall in shock as one<p> <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/42-15.htm#aramaic"><b>15</b></a></span>I shall lay the mountains waste and the hills, and all their strength I shall dry up. I shall make rivers islands and the pools I shall dry up<p> <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/42-16.htm#aramaic"><b>16</b></a></span>I shall lead the blind in the way that they do not know, and I shall make them walk in the paths that they have not known. I shall make darkness light before them and I shall smooth the rugged places. These responses I have made to them and I have not forsaken them<p> <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/42-17.htm#aramaic"><b>17</b></a></span>They shall turn their back and they shall be ashamed in shame, those who trust on carved images, and they were saying to molten images: "You are our gods!"<p> <A name="19"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/42-18.htm#aramaic"><b>18</b></a></span>Hear, deaf men, and perceive and see, blind men!<p> <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/42-19.htm#aramaic"><b>19</b></a></span>Who is blind if not my Servant, and deaf as my Messenger whom I shall send? Who is blind as the Ruler and blind as the Servant of LORD JEHOVAH?<p> <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/42-20.htm#aramaic"><b>20</b></a></span>I beheld much and you do not observe, and I opened ears and you are not hearing<p> <A name="22"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/42-21.htm#aramaic"><b>21</b></a></span>LORD JEHOVAH was pleased because of his righteousness, that he would magnify the Law and glorify it<p> <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/42-22.htm#aramaic"><b>22</b></a></span>And this people is robbed and downtrodden. All the boys are snared and hidden in houses of prisoners. They have been for prey, and there is none who delivers, and downtrodden, and there is none who restores<p> <A name="24"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/42-23.htm#aramaic"><b>23</b></a></span>Who is among you that will hear this, and he will pay attention, and he will listen to something different?<p> <A name="25"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/isaiah/42-24.htm#aramaic"><b>24</b></a></span>Who gave Yaqob for treading under foot and Israel for being plundered?
