color=#000000>受清凉甘甜的天山雪水润泽的各族人民，创造过灿烂的古代西域文明。历史悠久的乌鲁木齐，是举世闻名的古“丝绸之路”新北道的必经之路。公元前一世纪，西汉政府设立的西域都护府，曾置戊已校尉在这一带屯田。盛唐时期，为了进一步加强东西方经济文化交流，促进“丝绸之路”新北道的繁荣和发展，公元640年，唐朝政府在乌鲁木齐东北设北庭大都护府，公元1755年，清政府在现乌鲁木齐九家湾明故城筑垒驻兵，并将此地正式定名乌鲁木齐，公元1763年改名为“迪化”。公元1884年，新疆建置行省，乌鲁木齐定为省会，升为“迪化”府。出现了“万家烟火暖云蒸，销尽天山太古冰”的繁荣景象。</FONT>
