nieuwsbrief</div></div> <h1 class="entry-title">Hivos en de Nederlandse politiek</h1> <div class="entry-date has-date-hidden">1 november 2019</div> <p class="has-aws-introduction-font-size">We werken wereldwijd samen met moedige mensen die zich verzetten tegen discriminatie, ongelijkheid en machtsmisbruik. Of het nu de klimaatactivist is in Ecuador die vecht voor het behoud van de Amazone of de LHBTIQ+ gemeenschap in Kenia die strijdt voor gelijkheid.</p> <p>Wij zien het als onze taak om hun verhalen en ideeën onder de aandacht te brengen van regeringen, bedrijven en internationale organisaties. Dat doen we ook in Nederland. Pleitbezorgen heet dat. Want beslissingen die de politiek hier neemt, kunnen wereldwijd effect hebben. Vaak spreken we met leden van de Eerste en Tweede Kamer, maar laten we ook van ons horen bij ministeries. Hierbij richten we ons voornamelijk op het Nederlands buitenlandbeleid. Juist het beschermen van mensenrechten en het bevorderen van betekenisvolle deelname van vrouwen en LHBTIQ+ personen aan besluitvorming is nodig voor <a href="https://hivos.org/opinion/hivos-nine-point-plan-for-a-feminist-foreign-policy-for-the-netherlands/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">een vrije, eerlijke en duurzame wereld</a>.</p> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Kunnen activisten nog op Nederland rekenen?</strong></h2> <p>De afgelopen jaren is er veel bezuinigd op ontwikkelingssamenwerking. De huidige coalitie gaat <a href="https://hivos.nl/bezuinigen-op-ontwikkelingssamenwerking-is-kapitaalvernietiging/">nog eens 2,4 miljard korten op dit budget</a> vanaf 2027. Dat heeft direct effect op het werk van onze partners. Zij lopen voorop in het aanpakken van grensoverschrijdende uitdagingen, zoals de gevolgen van de klimaatcrisis of de internationale anti-rechtenbeweging die vooral de vrijheden van meisjes, vrouwen en LHBTIQ+ personen bedreigt. Voor die laatste groep is de <a href="https://hivos.nl/mensenrechten-in-gevaar-door-bezuinigingen/">Nederlandse steun onmisbaar</a> – een derde van het wereldwijde budget voor LHBTIQ+ projecten komt van Nederland.</p> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Thema: Gendergelijkwaardigheid, diversiteit en inclusie</strong></h2> <p>Zonder gelijkwaardigheid, diversiteit en inclusie bestaat er geen vrije en rechtvaardige samenleving. Daarom strijden wij voor gelijke rechten en gelijkwaardige kansen voor alle mensen, ongeacht genderidentiteit- en expressie, geslacht, seksuele oriëntatie, etniciteit, leeftijd, beperkingen, religie of culturele achtergrond.</p> <p>Dat doen we niet alleen in landen waar ongelijkheid het grootst is. Ook in Nederland moeten we waakzaam blijven. Hoewel wettelijk al veel goed is geregeld, zijn we er namelijk <a href="https://www.rainbow-europe.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><u>nog niet</u></a>. Discriminatie en uitsluiting komen hier nog té vaak voor. Foto: Makmende Media</figcaption></figure> <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Actualiteit</h3> <p>We werken samen met het <a href="https://hivos.nl/brede-steun-in-de-tweede-kamer-voor-mondiale-gezondheid-en-seksuele-rechten/">Meerpartijen Initiatief (MPI) voor mondiale gezondheid en seksuele en reproductieve gezondheid en rechten</a> (SRGR). Het MPI richt zich op het aanjagen en monitoren van de Nederlandse internationale inzet binnen de Kamer op thema’s als SRGR en hiv/aids. Door <a href="https://hivos.nl/jongeren-aan-het-woord-over-hun-seksuele-rechten/">kennis en expertise</a> te genereren proberen we ervoor te zorgen dat deze onderwerpen brede politieke aandacht behouden.</p> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Thema: Klimaatrechtvaardigheid</strong></h2> <p>Lage- en middeninkomenslanden dragen het minst bij aan de klimaatcrisis, maar plukken daar nu wel de wrange vruchten van. Hoge-inkomenslanden als Nederland hebben dan ook een grotere verantwoordelijkheid als het gaat om het aanpakken van dit <a href="https://hivos.nl/klimaatrechtvaardigheid/"><u>mondiale probleem</u></a>. Wij zouden lage-inkomenslanden moeten ondersteunen bij het omgaan met en tegengaan van klimaatverandering. Wij roepen de overheid daarom op om aan haar eerlijke deel van internationale klimaatfinanciering te voldoen. Tevens zou Nederland zich moeten inzetten om de toegang van lokale gemeenschappen tot klimaatfinanciering te vergoten, met speciale aandacht voor vrouwen en gemarginaliseerd groepen.</p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Actualiteit</h3> <p>Eind november 2024 brachten we activisten, filmmakers en onze donateurs samen tijdens het Tomorrow klimaatfestivals. <a href="https://hivos.nl/cinetree-en-hivos-lanceren-online-klimaatfilmfestival/">Samen met Cinetree</a> brachten we daar inspirerende, hoopvolle verhalen over een betere <em>tomorrow. </em>Wij hebben ons daarnaast aangesloten bij het burgerinitiatief <a href="https://hivos.nl/burgerbeweging-dient-burgerinitiatief-voor-afscheid-van-fossiel-in/">Afscheid van Fossiel</a>, dat begin december is ingediend bij de Tweede Kamer. Ook organiseren we in januari een bijeenkomst over klimaatactivisten in de Amazone. </p> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Thema: Afnemende ruimte voor kritische burgers</strong></h2> <p>Of zij nu opkomen voor klimaatrechtvaardigheid of de rechten van jonge meisjes en vrouwen, de ruimte die mensenrechtenverdedigers en hun organisaties hebben om hun werk te doen staat wereldwijd onder druk.</p> <p>Wij dringen er daarom bij de overheid en Nederlandse ambassades op aan om deze trend te keren. Slechts <a href="https://monitor.civicus.org/quickfacts/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><u>drie procent</u></a> van de wereldbevolking leeft in een land waar fundamentele rechten worden beschermd en gerespecteerd. Helaas zien wij té vaak dat onze overheid zich laat leiden door eigen economische- en veiligheidsbelangen, terwijl Nederland er ook bij gebaat is om te investeren in open samenlevingen wereldwijd.</p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Actualiteit</h3> <p>Naast de ruimte die Nederland kan faciliteren voor kritische burgers wereldwijd, zowel online als offline, maakt Hivos zich ook hard voor de ruimte die burgers in Nederland hebben. Hier zien wij steeds vaker een inperking van het demonstratierecht. Daarom hebben we ook de brief voor het <a href="https://www.greenpeace.org/nl/algemeen/60172/stop-de-uitholling-van-het-demonstratierecht/">recht op protest</a> ondersteund. </p> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Samenwerkingen</h2> <p>Binnen Nederland werken wij onder andere samen via de branchevereniging <a href="https://www.partos.nl/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><u>Partos </u></a>en het <a href="https://www.breedmensenrechtenoverleg.nl/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><u>Breed Mensenrechten Overleg</u></a>, een samenwerkingsverband van in Nederland gevestigde mensenrechten- en ontwikkelingsorganisaties. Deze tweejaarlijkse prijs wordt door de leden van het Breed Mensenrechten Overleg toegekend aan de ambassade die zich het meest proactief, concreet en effectief heeft ingezet voor de verdediging en
