The fact that it left four persons dead and 21 injured is certainly one reason for this. More important, however, is the question whether there should have been any violence at all. The dargah, which was that of a Sufi Saint Rashiuddin Chishti, had to be demolished for an important road-widening project. Notice, according to Mr RK Pathak, Commissioner of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation, had been given to the trustees for its removal but no response was received. According to the Mayor, Mr Sunil Solanki, three meetings had been held with representatives of the minority community to persuade them to shift the dargah and land had been offered. There would have been no violence and police firing had the offer been accepted. Whereas &#8220;it never became an essential part of Sunni religious doctrine,&#8221; continues the encyclopedia, &#8220;Belief in the coming of the Mahdi of the Family of the Prophet became a central aspect of the faith in radical Shi&lsquo;ism,&#8221; where it is also known as the return of the Twelfth Imam.</p> <p>Mahdaviat means &#8220;belief in and efforts to prepare for the Mahdi.&#8221;</p></blockquote> <p> <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20060506205426/http://www.sandeepweb.com/2006/05/02/irans-nut-returns/#more-572">(more&#8230;)</a> </p> </div> <div class="feedback"> <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20060506205426/http://www.sandeepweb.com/2006/05/02/irans-nut-returns/#comments">Comments (0)</a><div class="meta">Filed under: <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20060506205426/http://www.sandeepweb.com/category/terrorism-pakistan/" title="View all posts in Terrorism &amp; Pakistan" rel="category tag">Terrorism &amp; Pakistan</a>, <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20060506205426/http://www.sandeepweb.com/category/weblogs/" title="View all posts in Weblogs" rel="category tag">Weblogs</a>, <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20060506205426/http://www.sandeepweb.com/category/international-politics/" title="View all posts in International Politics" rel="category tag">International Politics</a> by &#8212; Sandeep @ 5:35 pm</div> </div> <!-- <rdf:RDF xmlns:rdf="http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:trackback="http://madskills.com/public/xml/rss/module/trackback/"> <rdf:Description rdf:about="http://www.sandeepweb.com/2006/05/02/irans-nut-returns/" dc:identifier="http://www.sandeepweb.com/2006/05/02/irans-nut-returns/" dc:title="Iran&#8217;s Nut Returns" trackback:ping="http://www.sandeepweb.com/2006/05/02/irans-nut-returns/trackback/" /> </rdf:RDF> --> <div class="date"></div> <h1 id="post-571"><a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20060506205426/http://www.sandeepweb.com/2006/05/02/see-what-we-can-do/" rel="bookmark" title="See What We can Do">See What We can Do</a></h1> <div class="storycontent"> <p>The &#8220;peace process&#8221; is in one word, bunkum. There can be no peace process and no Kashmir-conflict-resolution without Pakistan first changing its bully mindset. Pakistan, no matter which dictator rules it, cannot simply afford to let go of Kashmir. So it stands to reason that there is no peace process to start with. When official announcements of &#8220;peace process&#8221; originates from Pakistan it is merely a smokescreen and when it (repeatedly) comes from home, it is at best an act of habitual cowardice.</p> <p>The latest demonstration of this fact is <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20060506205426/http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/1511865.cms" title="Bloodbath in J&amp;K: Lashkar-e-Taiba Massacres 32 Hindus: TOI " target="_blank">yesterday&#8217;s cowardly terrorist attack</a>. </p> <blockquote><p>In a desperate bid to derail a fledgling peace process, terrorists struck with a numbing carnage two days before a round-table conference on the Kashmir issue was to start. At the end of J&#038;K&#8217;s bloodiest massacre in three years, the toll stood at 32 dead, including a six-year-old, and about a dozen wounded. Late on Sunday evening, a group of 6-10 heavily-armed Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists, some in army combat fatigues, pulled out Hindu villagers from their homes in scattered hamlets in Doda and shot them. They stormed into homes in Kulhand and herded terrified residents of two hamlets in Kulhand area into village headmen&#8217;s homes, saying there was an important announcement. Then they mowed them down with a hail of bullets.</p></blockquote> <p> <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20060506205426/http://www.sandeepweb.com/2006/05/02/see-what-we-can-do/#more-571">(more&#8230;)</a> </p> </div> <div class="feedback"> <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20060506205426/http://www.sandeepweb.com/2006/05/02/see-what-we-can-do/#comments">Comments (1)</a><div class="meta">Filed under: <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20060506205426/http://www.sandeepweb.com/category/commentary/" title="View all posts in Commentary" rel="category tag">Commentary</a>, <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20060506205426/http://www.sandeepweb.com/category/terrorism-pakistan/" title="View all posts in Terrorism &amp; Pakistan" rel="category tag">Terrorism &amp; Pakistan</a>, <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20060506205426/http://www.sandeepweb.com/category/weblogs/" title="View all posts in Weblogs" rel="category tag">Weblogs</a>, <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20060506205426/http://www.sandeepweb.com/category/indian-politics/" title="View all posts in Indian Politics" rel="category tag">Indian Politics</a>, <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20060506205426/http://www.sandeepweb.com/category/international-politics/" title="View all posts in International Politics" rel="category tag">International Politics</a> by &#8212; Sandeep @ 9:56 am</div> </div> <!-- <rdf:RDF xmlns:rdf="http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:trackback="http://madskills.com/public/xml/rss/module/trackback/"> <rdf:Description rdf:about="http://www.sandeepweb.com/2006/05/02/see-what-we-can-do/" dc:identifier="http://www.sandeepweb.com/2006/05/02/see-what-we-can-do/" dc:title="See What We can Do" trackback:ping="http://www.sandeepweb.com/2006/05/02/see-what-we-can-do/trackback/" /> </rdf:RDF> --> <div class="date">May 1, 2006</div> <h1 id="post-570"><a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20060506205426/http://www.sandeepweb.com/2006/05/01/movie-review-escape-from-alcatraz/" rel="bookmark" title="Movie Review: Escape from Alcatraz">Movie Review: Escape from Alcatraz</a></h1> <div class="storycontent"> <p>Pity Hollywood doesn&#8217;t make movies like these any more.
