However, Snapshot is not immune to all the problems that arise from competing transactions and therefore no serialization warranty exists. We propose in this paper a technique to obtain data consistency with Snapshot by using some special triggers that we named Daemon Triggers. Besides keeping the benefits of the Snapshot isolation, the technique is specially useful for those database systems that do not have an isolation level that ensures serializability, like Firebird and Oracle. We describe all the anomalies that might arise when using the Snapshot isolation and show how to preclude them with Daemon Triggers. Based on the methodology presented here, it is also proposed the creation of a new isolation level: Daemon Snapshot. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=data%20consistency" title="data consistency">data consistency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=serialization" title=" serialization"> serialization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=snapshot" title=" snapshot"> snapshot</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=isolation" title=" isolation"> isolation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/10560/ensuring-consistency-under-the-snapshot-isolation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/10560.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">329</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">84</span> Analysis of the Savings Behaviour of Rice Farmers in Tiaong, Quezon, Philippines</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Angelika%20Kris%20D.%20Dalangin">Angelika Kris D. Quicoy</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Rice farming is a major source of livelihood and employment in the Philippines, but it requires a substantial amount of capital. Capital may come from income (farm, non-farm, and off-farm), savings and credit. However, rice farmers suffer from lack of capital due to high costs of inputs and low productivity. Capital insufficiency, coupled with low productivity, hindered them to meet their basic household and production needs. Hence, they resorted to borrowing money, mostly from informal lenders who charge very high interest rates. As another source of capital, savings can help rice farmers meet their basic needs for both the household and the farm. However, information is inadequate whether the farmers save or not, as well as, why they do not depend on savings to augment their lack of capital. Thus, it is worth analyzing how rice farmers saved. The study revealed, using the actual savings which is the difference between the household income and expenditure, that about three-fourths (72%) of the total number of farmers interviewed are savers. However, when they were asked whether they are savers or not, more than half of them considered themselves as non-savers. This gap shows that there are many farmers who think that they do not have savings at all; hence they continue to borrow money and do not depend on savings to augment their lack of capital. The study also identified the forms of savings, saving motives, and savings utilization among rice farmers. Results revealed that, for the past 12 months, most of the farmers saved cash at home for liquidity purposes while others deposited cash in banks and/or saved their money in the form of livestock. Among the most important reasons of farmers for saving are for daily household expenses, for building a house, for emergency purposes, for retirement, and for their next production. Furthermore, the study assessed the factors affecting the rice farmers’ savings behaviour using logistic regression. Results showed that the factors found to be significant were presence of non-farm income, per capita net farm income, and per capita household expense. The presence of non-farm income and per capita net farm income positively affects the farmers’ savings behaviour. On the other hand, per capita household expenses have negative effect. The effect, however, of per capita net farm income and household expenses is very negligible because of the very small chance that the farmer is a saver. Generally, income and expenditure were proved to be significant factors that affect the savings behaviour of the rice farmers. However, most farmers could not save regularly due to low farm income and high household and farm expenditures. Thus, it is highly recommended that government should develop programs or implement policies that will create more jobs for the farmers and their family members. In addition, programs and policies should be implemented to increase farm productivity and income. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=agricultural%20economics" title="agricultural economics">agricultural economics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=agricultural%20finance" title=" agricultural finance"> agricultural finance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=binary%20logistic%20regression" title=" binary logistic regression"> binary logistic regression</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=logit" title=" logit"> logit</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Philippines" title=" Philippines"> Philippines</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Quezon" title=" Quezon"> Quezon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rice%20farmers" title=" rice farmers"> rice farmers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=savings" title=" savings"> savings</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=savings%20behaviour" title=" savings behaviour"> savings behaviour</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/101521/analysis-of-the-savings-behaviour-of-rice-farmers-in-tiaong-quezon-philippines" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/101521.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">228</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">83</span> Finite Element Modeling of the Mechanical Behavior of Municipal Solid Waste Incineration Bottom Ash with the Mohr-Coulomb Model</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Le%20Ngoc%20Hung">Le Ngoc Hung</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abriak%20Nor%20Edine"> Abriak Nor Edine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Binetruy%20Christophe"> Binetruy Christophe</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Benzerzour%20Mahfoud"> Benzerzour Mahfoud</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shahrour%20Isam"> Shahrour Isam</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Patrice%20Rivard"> Patrice Rivard</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Bottom ash from Municipal Solid Waste Incineration (MSWI) can be viewed as a typical granular material because these industrial by-products result from the incineration of various domestic wastes. MSWI bottom ashes are mainly used in road engineering in substitution of the traditional natural aggregates. As the characterization of their mechanical behavior is essential in order to use them, specific studies have been led over the past few years. In the first part of this paper, the mechanical behavior of MSWI bottom ash is studied with triaxial tests. After analysis of the experiment results, the simulation of triaxial tests is carried out by using the software package CESAR-LCPC. As the first approach in modeling of this new class material, the Mohr-Coulomb model was chosen to describe the evolution of material under the influence of external mechanical actions. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bottom%20ash" title="bottom ash">bottom ash</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=granular%20material" title=" granular material"> granular material</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=triaxial%20test" title=" triaxial test"> triaxial test</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mechanical%20behavior" title=" mechanical behavior"> mechanical behavior</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=simulation" title=" simulation"> simulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohr-Coulomb%20model" title=" Mohr-Coulomb model"> Mohr-Coulomb model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CESAR-LCPC" title=" CESAR-LCPC"> CESAR-LCPC</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/36317/finite-element-modeling-of-the-mechanical-behavior-of-municipal-solid-waste-incineration-bottom-ash-with-the-mohr-coulomb-model" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/36317.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">310</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">82</span> Scaling out Sustainable Land Use Systems in Colombia: Some Insights and Implications from Two Regional Case Studies </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Martha%20Lilia%20Del%20Rio%20Duque">Martha Lilia Del Rio Duque</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Michelle%20Bonatti"> Michelle Bonatti</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Katharina%20Loehr"> Katharina Loehr</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marcos%20Lana"> Marcos Lana</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tatiana%20Rodriguez"> Tatiana Rodriguez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Stefan%20Sieber"> Stefan Sieber</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Nowadays, most agricultural practices can reduce the ability of ecosystems to provide goods and services. To enhance environmentally friendly food production and to maximize social and economic benefits, sustainable land use systems (SLUS) are one of the most critical strategies increasingly/strongly promoted by donors organizations, international agencies, and policymakers. This process involves the question of how SLUS can be scaled out also large-scale landscapes and not merely isolated experiments. As SLUS are context-specific strategies, diffusion and replication of successful SLUS in Colombia required the identification of main factors that facilitate this scaling out process. We applied a case study approach to investigate the scaling out process of SLUS in cocoa and livestock sector within peacebuilding territories in Colombia, specifically, in Cesar and Caqueta region. These two regions are contrasting, but both have a current trend of increasing land degradation. Presently in Colombia, Caqueta is one of the most deforested departments, and Cesar has some most degraded soils. Following a qualitative research approach, 19 semi-structured interviews and 2 focus groups were conducted with agroforestry experts in both regions to analyze (1) what does it mean a sustainable land use system in Cocoa/Livestock, specifically in Caqueta or Cesar and (2) to identify the key elements at the level of the following dimensions: biophysical, economic and profitability, market, social, policy and institutions that can explain how and why SLUS are replicated and spread among more producers. The Interviews were coded and analyzed using MAXQDA to identify, analyze and report patterns (themes) within data. As the results show, key themes, among which: premium market, solid regional markets and price stability, water availability and management, generational renewal, land use knowledge and diversification, producer organization and certifications are crucial to understand how the SLUS can have an impact across large-scale landscapes and how the scaling out process can be set up best in order to be successful across different contexts. The analysis further reveals which key factors might affect SLUS efficiency. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=agroforestry" title="agroforestry">agroforestry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cocoa%20sector" title=" cocoa sector"> cocoa sector</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Colombia" title=" Colombia"> Colombia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=livestock%20sector" title=" livestock sector"> livestock sector</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sustainable%20land%20use%20system" title=" sustainable land use system"> sustainable land use system</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/129873/scaling-out-sustainable-land-use-systems-in-colombia-some-insights-and-implications-from-two-regional-case-studies" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/129873.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">160</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">81</span> Educase–Intelligent System for Pedagogical Advising Using Case-Based Reasoning</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elionai%20Moura">Elionai Moura</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jos%C3%A9%20A.%20Cunha"> José A. However, the major issue is the validation of the results. The present work shows a Particle Image Velocimetry PIV flow visualization technique in complex biological structures, particularly in intracranial aneurysms. A methodology to reconstruct and generate a transparent model has been developed, as well as visualization and particle tracking techniques. The generated transparent models allow visualizing the flow patterns with a regular camera using the visualization techniques. The final goal is to use visualization as a tool to provide more information on the treatment and surgery decisions in aneurysms. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aneurysms" title="aneurysms">aneurysms</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PIV" title=" PIV"> PIV</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flow%20visualization" title=" flow visualization"> flow visualization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=particle%20tracking" title=" particle tracking"> particle tracking</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/165909/flow-visualization-in-biological-complex-geometries-for-personalized-medicine" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/165909.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">90</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">76</span> Experimental Networks Synchronization of Chua’s Circuit in Different Topologies</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Manuel%20Meranza-Castillon">Manuel Meranza-Castillon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rolando%20Diaz-Castillo"> Rolando Diaz-Castillo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Adrian%20Arellano-Delgado"> Adrian Arellano-Delgado</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cesar%20Cruz-Hernandez"> Cesar Cruz-Hernandez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rosa%20Martha%20Lopez-Gutierrez"> Rosa Martha Lopez-Gutierrez</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this work, we deal with experimental network synchronization of chaotic nodes with different topologies. All measurements were obtained from 20 healthy well trained healthy adults (age 19.5 ± 0.8 yrs, body mass 63.4 ± 1.5 kg, height: 1.65 ± 0.05 m). Subjects had to perform isometric ramp contractions in knee flexion with the force gradually increasing from 0 to 40% of the maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) in a 20s period. The root mean square (RMS) amplitude of sEMG signals obtained from the biceps femoris (caput longum) were calculated at four different strength levels (10, 20, 30, and 40% MVC) from the ramp isometric contractions (5s during the 20s task %MVC). The main results were a more pronounced increase non-linear in sEMG-RMS amplitude for the muscles. The protocol described here may provide a useful index for measuring of strength neuromuscular fatigue. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biosignal" title="biosignal">biosignal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=surface%20electromyography" title=" surface electromyography"> surface electromyography</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ramp%20contractions" title=" ramp contractions"> ramp contractions</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=strength" title=" strength"> strength</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32275/relation-of-electromyography-strength-and-fatigue-during-ramp-isometric-contractions" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32275.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">483</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">71</span> Raising High School English Teachers&#039; Awareness of World Englishes</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Julio%20Cesar%20Torres%20Rocha">Julio Cesar Torres Rocha</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The present study is a three-stage action research that aims at raising EFL teachers’ awareness of World Englishes (WE) within a critical perspective of inquiry. The results of the study showed that there was a clear change of conception, at the theoretical level, in teachers’ papers. However, WE was regarded as future possibility for action. On the one hand, all of the participants said the module changed their conception of other varieties of English different from British and American ones. For the general learning setting of unsupervised learning tasks, there are non-trivial learning problems where uniform convergence does not hold. We present here the task of learning centers of mass with an extra feature that “activates” some of the coordinates over the unit ball in a Hilbert space. We show that the learning problem is learnable under a stable RLM rule. We introduce a family of distributions over the domain space with some mild restrictions for which the sample complexity of uniform convergence for these problems must grow logarithmically with the dimension of the Hilbert space. If we take this dimension to infinity, we obtain a learnable problem for which the uniform convergence property fails for a vast family of distributions. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=statistical%20learning%20theory" title="statistical learning theory">statistical learning theory</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=learnability" title=" learnability"> learnability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=uniform%20convergence" title=" uniform convergence"> uniform convergence</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stability" title=" stability"> stability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=regularized%20loss%20minimization" title=" regularized loss minimization"> regularized loss minimization</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/151038/a-family-of-distributions-on-learnable-problems-without-uniform-convergence" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/151038.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">129</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">69</span> Collective Movement between Two Lego EV3 Mobile Robots</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Luis%20Fernando%20Pinedo-Lomeli">Luis Fernando Pinedo-Lomeli</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rosa%20Martha%20Lopez-Gutierrez"> Rosa Martha Lopez-Gutierrez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jose%20Antonio%20Michel-Macarty"> Jose Antonio Michel-Macarty</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cesar%20Cruz-Hernandez"> Cesar Cruz-Hernandez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Liliana%20Cardoza-Avenda%C3%B1o"> Liliana Cardoza-Avendaño</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Humberto%20Cruz-Hernandez"> Humberto Cruz-Hernandez</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Robots are working in industry and services performing repetitive or dangerous tasks, however, when flexible movement capabilities and complex tasks are required, the use of many robots is needed. To get an efficient supply chain model, several functions should be considered to get a complete simulation of several operational units. We consider a linear programming model to help farmers to decide if it is convenient to choose what area should be planted for three kinds of export fruits considering their future investment. We consider area, investment, water, productivity minimal unit, and harvest restrictions to develop a monthly based model to compute the average income in five years. Also, conditions on the field as area, water availability, and initial investment are required. Using the Chilean costs and dollar-peso exchange rate, we can simulate several scenarios to understand the possible risks associated to this market. Also, this tool help to support decisions for government and individual farmers. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mixed%20integer%20problem" title="mixed integer problem">mixed integer problem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fresh%20fruit%20production" title=" fresh fruit production"> fresh fruit production</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=support%20decision%20model" title=" support decision model"> support decision model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=agricultural%20and%20biosystems%20engineering" title=" agricultural and biosystems engineering"> agricultural and biosystems engineering</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/26591/optimization-model-for-support-decision-for-maximizing-production-of-mixed-fresh-fruit-farms" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/26591.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">438</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">64</span> Peak Floor Response for Buildings with Flexible Base</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Luciano%20Roberto%20Fernandez-Sola">Luciano Roberto Fernandez-Sola</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cesar%20Augusto%20Arredondo-Velez"> Cesar Augusto Arredondo-Velez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Miguel%20Angel%20Jaimes-Tellez"> Miguel Angel Jaimes-Tellez</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper explores the modifications on peak acceleration, velocity and displacement profiles over the structure due to dynamic soil-structure interaction (DSSI). A shear beam model is used for the structure. Soil-foundation flexibility (inertial interaction) is considered by a set of springs and dashpots at the structure base. Kinematic interaction is considered using transfer functions. Impedance functions are computed using simplified expressions for rigid foundations. The research studies the influence of the slenderness ratio on the value of the peak floor response. It is shown that the modifications of peak floor responses are not the same for acceleration, velocity and displacement. This is opposite to the hypothesis used by methods included in several building codes. Results show that modifications produced by DSSI on different response quantities are not equal. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=peak%20floor%20intensities" title="peak floor intensities">peak floor intensities</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dynamic%20soil-structure%20interaction" title=" dynamic soil-structure interaction"> dynamic soil-structure interaction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=buildings%20with%20flexible%20base" title=" buildings with flexible base"> buildings with flexible base</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=kinematic%20and%20inertial%20interaction" title=" kinematic and inertial interaction"> kinematic and inertial interaction</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/65705/peak-floor-response-for-buildings-with-flexible-base" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/65705.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">450</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">63</span> Continuous Improvement in Emerging Economies: Insights from a Multi-Case Analysis</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Luis%20A.%20Paipa-Galeano">Luis A. The study analyzes the empirical evidence and compares it to the literature review to provide insights for companies looking to increase their maturity level in this area. The five success factors identified are the availability of resources, commitment and support from management, participation of employees in identifying tasks to improve, clear and realistic objectives for continuous improvement, and the existence of a leader or responsible for continuous improvement. The major barriers to success are a lack of alignment between the organization’s strategic objectives and continuous improvement objectives, a lack of motivation in the team, and resistance to change. The paper concludes with recommendations for companies to reduce the risk of improvement failure and increase their maturity level in continuous improvement. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=emerging%20economies" title="emerging economies">emerging economies</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kaizen" title=" Kaizen"> Kaizen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=continuous%20improvement%20sustainability" title=" continuous improvement sustainability"> continuous improvement sustainability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=maturity%20model" title=" maturity model"> maturity model</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/181887/continuous-improvement-in-emerging-economies-insights-from-a-multi-case-analysis" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/181887.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">73</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">62</span> Bibliometric Analysis of the Research Progress on Graphene Inks from 2008 to 2018</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jean%20C.%20A.%20Sousa">Jean C. In the processes of oil obtaining and refining, it is common to find problems such as spills on seabed and high energy consumption in processing. In order to quickly and efficiently attack these problems, the use of adsorbents has taken on great importance due to its ease of implementation, as well as the possibility of their regeneration to be reused. In this work, the use of two types of adsorbents is proposed: the first is a natural adsorbent such as aloe vera or nopal, which were lyophilized and hydrophobized to achieve a selectivity in oil adsorption in oil / water mixtures. The second is a mixed iron/nickel oxide, which is specially designed to adsorb the asphaltenes in the heavy fractions of the oil; in addition, this type of adsorbents presents catalytic properties that manage to decompose the heavier fractions of the petroleum in light hydrocarbons, descending thus the energy required for the oil refining process. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nanomaterials" title="nanomaterials">nanomaterials</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=oil%20spills" title=" oil spills"> oil spills</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=remediation" title=" remediation"> remediation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=natural%20adsorbents" title=" natural adsorbents"> natural adsorbents</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mixed%20oxides" title=" mixed oxides"> mixed oxides</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/72269/mixed-natural-adsorbents-and-oxides-for-oil-remediation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/72269.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">241</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">60</span> Comparison of Classical Computer Vision vs. Convolutional Neural Networks Approaches for Weed Mapping in Aerial Images</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Paulo%20Cesar%20Pereira%20Junior">Paulo Cesar Pereira Junior</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alexandre%20Monteiro"> Alexandre Monteiro</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rafael%20da%20Luz%20Ribeiro"> Rafael da Luz Ribeiro</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Antonio%20Carlos%20Sobieranski"> Antonio Carlos Sobieranski</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aldo%20von%20Wangenheim"> Aldo von Wangenheim</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, we present a comparison between convolutional neural networks and classical computer vision approaches, for the specific precision agriculture problem of weed mapping on sugarcane fields aerial images. The goal of this study was to investigate the effect of initial moisture content (MC) on the batch biodrying of pulp and paper secondary sludge, using rice husks as bulking agents. Three initial MCs were studied (54, 65, and 74% w.b.) in closed batch laboratory-scale reactors under adiabatic conditions and with a constant air-flow rate (0.65 l min-1 kg-1 wet solid). The initial MC of the mixture of secondary sludge and rice husks showed a significant effect on the biodrying process. Using initial moisture content between 54-65% w.b., the solid moisture content was reduce up to 37 % w.b. in ten days, getting calorific values between 8000-9000 kJ kg-1. It was concluded that a decreasing of initial MC improves the drying rate and decreases the solid volatile consumption, therefore, the optimization of biodrying should consider this parameter. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biodrying" title="biodrying">biodrying</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=secondary%20sludge" title=" secondary sludge"> secondary sludge</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=initial%20moisture%20content" title=" initial moisture content"> initial moisture content</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pulp%20and%20paper%20industry" title=" pulp and paper industry"> pulp and paper industry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rice%20husk" title=" rice husk "> rice husk </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/18173/batch-biodrying-of-pulp-and-paper-secondary-sludge-influence-of-initial-moisture-content-on-the-process" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/18173.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">509</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">58</span> Solvent Extraction in Ionic Liquids: Structuration and Aggregation Effects on Extraction Mechanisms</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sandrine%20Dourdain">Sandrine Dourdain</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cesar%20Lopez"> Cesar Lopez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tamir%20Sukhbaatar"> Tamir Sukhbaatar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Guilhem%20Arrachart"> Guilhem Arrachart</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Stephane%20Pellet-Rostaing"> Stephane Pellet-Rostaing</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A promising challenge in solvent extraction is to replace the conventional organic solvents, with ionic liquids (IL). Depending on the extraction systems, these new solvents show better efficiency than the conventional ones. Although some assumptions based on ions exchanges have been proposed in the literature, these properties are not predictable because the involved mechanisms are still poorly understood. It is well established that the mechanisms underlying solvent extraction processes are based not only on the molecular chelation of the extractant molecules but also on their ability to form supra-molecular aggregates due to their amphiphilic nature. It is therefore essential to evaluate how IL affects the aggregation properties of the extractant molecules. Our aim is to evaluate the influence of IL structure and polarity on solvent extraction mechanisms, by looking at the aggregation of the extractant molecules in IL. We compare extractant systems that are well characterized in common solvents and show thanks to SAXS and SANS measurements, that in the absence of IL ion exchange mechanisms, extraction properties are related to aggregation. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=solvent%20extraction%20in%20Ionic%20liquid" title="solvent extraction in Ionic liquid">solvent extraction in Ionic liquid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aggregation" title=" aggregation"> aggregation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ionic%20liquids%20structure" title=" Ionic liquids structure"> Ionic liquids structure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SAXS" title=" SAXS"> SAXS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SANS" title=" SANS"> SANS</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/107612/solvent-extraction-in-ionic-liquids-structuration-and-aggregation-effects-on-extraction-mechanisms" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/107612.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">155</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">57</span> Wireless Sensor Networks for Water Quality Monitoring: Prototype Design</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cesar%20Eduardo%20Hern%C3%A1ndez%20Curiel">Cesar Eduardo Hernández Curiel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Victor%20Hugo%20Ben%C3%ADtez%20Baltazar"> Victor Hugo Benítez Baltazar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jes%C3%BAs%20Horacio%20Pacheco%20Ram%C3%ADrez"> Jesús Horacio Pacheco Ramírez</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper is devoted to present the advances in the design of a prototype that is able to supervise the complex behavior of water quality parameters such as pH and temperature, via a real-time monitoring system. The current water quality tests that are performed in government water quality institutions in Mexico are carried out in problematic locations and they require taking manual samples. The water samples are then taken to the institution laboratory for examination. In order to automate this process, a water quality monitoring system based on wireless sensor networks is proposed. The system consists of a sensor node which contains one pH sensor, one temperature sensor, a microcontroller, and a ZigBee radio, and a base station composed by a ZigBee radio and a PC. The progress in this investigation shows the development of a water quality monitoring system. Due to recent events that affected water quality in Mexico, the main motivation of this study is to address water quality monitoring systems, so in the near future, a more robust, affordable, and reliable system can be deployed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pH%20measurement" title="pH measurement">pH measurement</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=water%20quality%20monitoring" title=" water quality monitoring"> water quality monitoring</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wireless%20sensor%20networks" title=" wireless sensor networks"> wireless sensor networks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ZigBee" title=" ZigBee"> ZigBee</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43281/wireless-sensor-networks-for-water-quality-monitoring-prototype-design" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/43281.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">404</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">56</span> Evaluation of Water Quality on the Strength of Simple Concrete: Case Study of Wells in Jipijapa, Manabí, Ecuador</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Julio%20Cesar%20Pino%20Tarrag%C3%B3">Julio Cesar Pino Tarragó</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dunia%20Lisbet%20Dom%C3%ADnguez%20G%C3%A1lvez"> Dunia Lisbet Domínguez Gálvez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Luis%20Alfonso%20Moreno%20Ponce"> Luis Alfonso Moreno Ponce</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jhony%20Julio%20Regalado%20Jalca"> Jhony Julio Regalado Jalca</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study examines the impact of three distinct types of water on the compressive strength of plain concrete, focusing on samples from wells in Jipijapa, Manabí, Ecuador: Joa water, characterized by high sulfur content; Chade 1 water, with low sulfur content; and Chade 2 water, which is highly brackish. Compressive strength tests were conducted at 7, 14, and 28 days to assess the influence of these water types on the structural integrity of the concrete. The results indicate that both brackish and sulfur-rich water significantly reduces concrete strength, while Chade 1 water, though initially enhancing strength, displays variability in long-term performance. These outcomes underscore the importance of optimizing construction practices in regions like Jipijapa, where potable water is scarce, by exploring sustainable alternatives for using non-potable water, thereby conserving limited water resources. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=compressive%20strength" title="compressive strength">compressive strength</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=plain%20concrete" title=" plain concrete"> plain concrete</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sulfur%20water" title=" sulfur water"> sulfur water</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=brackish%20water" title=" brackish water"> brackish water</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=water%20quality" title=" water quality"> water quality</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/189221/evaluation-of-water-quality-on-the-strength-of-simple-concrete-case-study-of-wells-in-jipijapa-manabi-ecuador" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/189221.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">35</span> </span> </div> </div> <ul class="pagination"> <li class="page-item disabled"><span class="page-link">&lsaquo;</span></li> <li class="page-item active"><span class="page-link">1</span></li> <li class="page-item"><a class="page-link" href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cesar%20B.%20Quicoy&amp;page=2">2</a></li> <li class="page-item"><a class="page-link" href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cesar%20B.%20Quicoy&amp;page=3">3</a></li> <li class="page-item"><a class="page-link" href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cesar%20B.%20Quicoy&amp;page=2" rel="next">&rsaquo;</a></li> </ul> </div> </main> <footer> <div id="infolinks" class="pt-3 pb-2"> <div class="container"> <div style="background-color:#f5f5f5;" class="p-3"> <div class="row"> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> About <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support">About Us</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support#legal-information">Legal</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/WASET-16th-foundational-anniversary.pdf">WASET celebrates its 16th foundational anniversary</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Account <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile">My Account</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Explore <li><a href="https://waset.org/disciplines">Disciplines</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/conferences">Conferences</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/conference-programs">Conference Program</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/committees">Committees</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org">Publications</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Research <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts">Abstracts</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org">Periodicals</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org/archive">Archive</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Open Science <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Science-Philosophy.pdf">Open Science Philosophy</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Science-Award.pdf">Open Science Award</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Society-Open-Science-and-Open-Innovation.pdf">Open Innovation</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Postdoctoral-Fellowship-Award.pdf">Postdoctoral Fellowship Award</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Scholarly-Research-Review.pdf">Scholarly Research Review</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Support <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support">Support</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile/messages/create">Contact Us</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile/messages/create">Report Abuse</a></li> </ul> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="container text-center"> <hr style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:.3rem;"> <a href="https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/" target="_blank" class="text-muted small">Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License</a> <div id="copy" class="mt-2">&copy;
