Arial;">The UCI World Cycling Centre in Aigle, Switzerland, is the home of cycling worldwide and a unique training hub for athletes coming from developing countries. With the objective of assisting as many National Federations as possible, satellites centres are gradually being established around the world with the aim of offering the same path to elite success.  </span> </p> <p> <strong><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"> </span></strong><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"> </span> </p> <p> <strong><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">WORLD CYCLING CENTRE – SOUTH AFRICA</span></strong><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"> </span> </p> <p> <span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">Based at an altitude of 1400m in the South African city of Potchefstroom, the World Cycling Centre Africa (WCC Africa) is the continental hub for cycling in Africa. </span> </p> <p> <span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">Working in collaboration with the UCI and the African Cycling Confederation, the mission of the WCC Africa is to develop and improve the level of cycle racing across the continent and to prepare African riders for international competition. Since it opened in 2005, hundreds of athletes from nearly 30 different National Federations have trained at the satellite centre. </span> </p> <p> <span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">The WCC Africa hosts training camps for athletes, coaches and national teams in Potchefstroom and is also involved in the organisation of talent identification programmes in different African countries. Particularly promising young athletes are often selected to continue training at the UCI’s World Cycling Centre in Aigle, Switzerland. </span> </p> <p> <span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">As well as physical training, riders are taught certain life skills necessary for future professional athletes. These include nutrition, meal preparation and administrative tasks such as visa applications. </span> </p> <p> <span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">Former WCC Africa trainees have won medals at African Continental Championships and UCI World Cups. Some represented their countries at the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympic Games, and several have moved on to join professional teams including Eritrean riders Daniel Teklehaimanot and Merhawi Kudus. It opened in April 2002 thanks to collaboration between the Japan Olympic Committee, the Japan Keirin Association, the Japan Cycling Federation and the Union Cycliste Internationale. Since then it has hosted nearly 800 athletes from 22 National Federations. The satellite centre hosts training camps to nurture promising young athletes and to assist the development of cycling in Asia. </span> </p> <p> <span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">Former WCC Japan trainee Lee Wai Sze (Hong Kong) won a bronze medal in the keirin at the 2012 London Olympic Games. The purpose of the UCI WCC is to develop cycling activities worldwide via athlete training, talent identification, coach education, mechanics training and examinations for Sport Directors and Riders’ Agents. An important tool in helping achieve this mission is the creation of UCI WCC satellite centres on all the continents in order to offer athletes everywhere the same pathway to success. </p> <p> UCI World Cycling Centre Korea Satellite </p> <p> The UCI World Cycling Centre’s Korea Satellite (UCI WCC-KS) opened in 2013.  </p> <p> Adhering to the core value of the 5Cs (Commitment, Challenge, Collaboration, Change, and Communication), it creates a positive environment that gives all its trainee athletes an equal opportunity to realise their full potential.   </p> <p> Both the track cycling and road cycling programmes at the UCI WCC-KS are free of charge for participants. Coaches and riders from developing countries benefit from top quality instructors, professional UCI coaching lectures, scientific training equipment, tailored training programmes and the opportunity to gain race experience. </p> <p> All this is possible thanks to the support of the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Korean Olympic Committee, the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, the Union Cycliste Internationale, the UCI World Cycling Centre, and the Korea Cycling Federation. </p> <p> Since its establishment, 145 participants (50 coaches and 95 riders) from 22 different countries have participated in UCI WCC-KS training programmes. Among the participants, Nguyen Thi That (Vietnam) won a silver medal in the 2014 Incheon Asian Games and Yuttana Mano (Thailand) won a silver medal in the 2015 UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships.
