the name of one, Khanna, and the name of the other, Pannana, and Pannana had children and Khanna had no children<p> <A name="4"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/1-3.htm#aramaic"><b>3</b></a></span>And that man was going up from his town from time to time to worship and to sacrifice to LORD JEHOVAH of Hosts in Shilo, and there were two sons of Eli there, Khaphni and Phinkhas, Priests to LORD JEHOVAH <A name="5"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/1-4.htm#aramaic"><b>4</b></a></span>And the day came and Halqanah offered and he gave to Pannana his wife, and to all of her sons and her daughters he gave portions <A name="6"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/1-5.htm#aramaic"><b>5</b></a></span>And to Khanna he gave one double portion, because he loved Khanna, and LORD JEHOVAH had shut her womb <A name="7"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/1-6.htm#aramaic"><b>6</b></a></span>And his rival wife was provoking her also to anger, so that she would grieve her because LORD JEHOVAH had shut in the face of her womb <A name="8"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/1-7.htm#aramaic"><b>7</b></a></span>And thus Pannana was doing every year by year in the time that she was going up to the house of LORD JEHOVAH, so she was provoking her, and Khanna wept and she was not eating <A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/1-8.htm#aramaic"><b>8</b></a></span>And Halqanah her husband said to her: “Khanna, why are you weeping, and why have you not been eating, and why is your heart sad? Behold, I am better for you than ten sons”<p> <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/1-9.htm#aramaic"><b>9</b></a></span>And Khanna arose after she had eaten in Shilo and after she had drunk, and she went up to the house of LORD JEHOVAH, and Eli the Priest was sitting on a seat by the door post of the temple of LORD JEHOVAH <A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/1-10.htm#aramaic"><b>10</b></a></span>And her soul was bitter and she was praying before LORD JEHOVAH, and was weeping greatly <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/1-11.htm#aramaic"><b>11</b></a></span>And she vowed a vow and she said: “LORD JEHOVAH of Hosts, if surely you shall look on the obedience of your Maid Servant and you will remember and not forget your Maid Servant, and you will give to your Maid Servant a son, I shall give him to LORD JEHOVAH all the days of his life, and a razor shall not go up on his head”<p> <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/1-12.htm#aramaic"><b>12</b></a></span>And it was that when she continued to pray before LORD JEHOVAH and Eli was watching her mouth <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/1-13.htm#aramaic"><b>13</b></a></span>And Hannah was speaking in her heart only, and her lips were moving and her voice was not heard, Eli considered her as drunk <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/1-14.htm#aramaic"><b>14</b></a></span>And Eli said to her: “How long will you be drunk? Put away your wine from you!” <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/1-15.htm#aramaic"><b>15</b></a></span>Khanna answered and she said to him: “No, my Lord! I am a woman distressed of spirit, and wine and strong drink I have not drunk, and I have poured out my soul before LORD JEHOVAH! <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/1-16.htm#aramaic"><b>16</b></a></span>Do not consider your Maid Servant before you a daughter of sin, because I have spoken from an abundance of my adversity and of my passion until now!” <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/1-17.htm#aramaic"><b>17</b></a></span>And Eli answered and said to her: “Go in peace, and the God of Israel will grant your request that you have asked from him” <A name="19"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/1-18.htm#aramaic"><b>18</b></a></span>And she said: “May your MaidServant find favor in your eyes.” And the woman went her way and her soul did not trouble her again<p> <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/1-19.htm#aramaic"><b>19</b></a></span>And they arose at dawn and they bowed before LORD JEHOVAH and they returned and they went to their house at Ramtha. And Halqanah had sexual relations with Khanna his wife, and LORD JEHOVAH remembered her <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/1-20.htm#aramaic"><b>20</b></a></span>And it happened at the time of days, and Khanna conceived and she bore a son, and she called his name Shemueil, because she requested him from LORD JEHOVAH<p> <A name="22"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/1-21.htm#aramaic"><b>21</b></a></span>And the man Halqanah came up and all his household to sacrifice to LORD JEHOVAH a sacrifice of the days of his vow <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/1-22.htm#aramaic"><b>22</b></a></span>And Hannah did not go up because she said to her husband: “Until the boy is weaned, and I will bring him and he will appear before LORD JEHOVAH and he shall dwell there forever” <A name="24"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/parallel/1_samuel/1-23.htm#aramaic"><b>23</b></a></span>And Halqanah her husband said to her: “Do according to what is excellent in your eyes.
