This will ensure that your saved searches and watched drugs are personal to you. </p> <p>For customer services and access related queries for the database, please email <a href="mailto:support@taylorfrancis.com">support@taylorfrancis.com</a></p> <hr> <h5><a name="offsite" title="offsite"></a>Using the database off site</h5> <p>If you are using <i><b>Litt's Drug Eruption & Reaction Database</b></i> through your academic and/or healthcare setting's subscription you can register to access the data when you are off site, either on your home or other computer, or on your smartphone or tablet.</p> <p>To register for remote access, you must be on site and within your institution's IP range.</p> <p>Go to <a href="/mobile_registration">http://www.drugeruptiondata.com/mobile_registration</a> and fill out and submit the form.</p> <p>When you are off site, go to <a href="http://drugeruptiondata.com/">http://drugeruptiondata.com/</a> and log in using the details you created during remote access registration.</p> <p>Your registration for remote access will last for six months. After your remote access ends, you will need to re-register for remote access when you are on site and within your institution's IP range.</p> <hr> <h5><a name="smartphone" title="smartphone"></a>Accessing the database on your smartphone or tablet</h5> <p>The <i><b>Litt's Drug Eruption & Reaction Database</b></i> is available as an app for smartphones and tablets. The mobile version gives fast access to all of the main features of the database but does not include the 'Compare drugs' functionality. It is available in both IOS and Android formats - subscribers can download it FREE from the App Store or Google Play</p> <p>Once you have downloaded and installed the app on your smartphone or tablet, you will need to login with your user name and password. Just close the screen when you have completed your search and you will be automatically logged in the next time the app is opened.</p> <p>N.B. If you are using <i><b>Litt's Drug Eruption & Reaction Database</b></i> through your academic and/or healthcare setting's subscription and wish to access via your smartphone or tablet when you are not on site, you must first register to access the data remotely. You must be on site and within your institution's IP range when you register. your registration for remote access will last for six months. After your remote access ends, you will need to re-register for remote access on site and from within your institution's IP range.</p> <hr> <h5><a name="howitcanhelp" title="howitcanhelp"></a>How can the database help with practice?</h5> <p>1. Find the clinical reports associated with that particular reaction; click on the abstract; and see how others managed the condition. EXAMPLE: A patient prescribed an ACE inhibitor (enalapril) presented with erythroderma: the report from 2006 by Antonov treated a similar patient by allopurinol, then switching to methotrexate.</p> <p>2. Compare the reaction profile of the drug the patient has been prescribed with another in the same class of drug.<br> EXAMPLE: A patient prescribed a beta-blocker (propranolol) presented with cold extremities. Following the procedure in (1) above, the report from 2013 by Hermans suggests stopping or reducing the dose. If that does not work, compare the reaction profile of propranolol with that of atenolol and consider changing to atenolol, which has lower attested rates in the Skin category.</p> <p>3. Search multiple drugs a patient has been prescribed to see which might be causing a problem reaction.<br> EXAMPLE: An elderly patient prescribed amlodipine, aspirin, atorvastatin, enalapril, and metoprolol presented with alopecia, bullous pemphigoid, gynecomastia, hepatotoxicity, and photosensitivity. Adding these drugs and reactions in the Search Multiple Drugs function shows that enalapril alone has been attested to cause all these reactions, so an alternative ACE inhibitor could be considered.</p> <hr> <h5><a name="searchoverview" title="searchoverview"></a>Search overview</h5> <p>Once you have logged in you can search information by choosing the relevant search category option from the drop-down list and typing a term into the search box. There are five main search categories in the drop-down list:</p> <p><strong>i)</strong> Drug name <br> <strong>ii)</strong> Adverse reaction <br> <strong>iii)</strong> Drug class <br> <strong>iv)</strong> Herbals and supplements <br> <strong>v)</strong> Drug company </p> <p>Once you have picked the search category and entered a search term, press 'GO', this will bring up the results corresponding to your query. Clicking on any name in this sub-list will give you full details of the relevant search term.</p> <p><strong>i)</strong> Searching for Drug Name brings up generic (including synonyms) and/or trade name drugs, which if clicked on, reveal the entire drug profile for that drug.</p> <p><strong>ii)</strong> Searching for an Adverse Reaction brings up drug reactions and eruptions. When a reaction is clicked on, this brings up a page where there may be a description of the reaction/eruption in question along with images (if any) of that reaction. From this page, you will also be able to bring up a list of all drugs that are known to cause that particular reaction. <br>   <br> <strong>iii)</strong> Searching for a Drug Class will bring up the names of drug classes which, when clicked on, will list the drugs on the database that belong to that class of drugs, and where available a list of reactions and references applicable to all drugs in that particular class. The individual drug profiles for the drugs within the drug class can be viewed by clicking on them individually to bring up the relevant profile. By selecting the tick box to the right of the drug name, up to four drugs can be selected for comparison, using the Compare drugs feature.</p> <div> </div> <p><strong>iv)</strong> Herbals and Supplements, too, are profiled on this database. Searching for Herbals brings up a listing of the relevant herbals, which if clicked on, reveal the entire profile for that herbal product.</p> <div> </div> <p><strong>v)</strong> If you search for a Drug Company, and click on the company name from the list of results, you will then be presented with a list of drugs where the trade named products are manufactured or owned by that company. From the listing of the drugs thus belonging to a company, you can click through to the corresponding drug profile.</p> <p><strong>TIPS</strong>: <br> <br> Active links on the site are highlighted by an underline as the cursor moves over them. Clicking on these will lead to other areas of the site. At the top of each drug profile is the option to compare the relevant drug with any other drug on the site.</p> <hr> <h5><a name="understanding" title="understanding"></a>Understanding the drug data</h5> <p><strong>DRUG PROFILE</strong> </p> <p>The bulk of the data on this database is contained within the detailed description of drugs and their associated adverse reactions. These are listed together on the drug profile pages. </p> <p>On any such drug profile page: </p> <ul> <li>The generic drug name is at the top.</li> <li>The most common trade (brand) name(s) are listed alphabetically (with the manufacturer in brackets). </li> <li>This is followed by the indications, the class to which the drug belongs, and the half-life (where known). </li> <li>The potentially hazardous interactions section lists hazardous interactions between the chosen drug and other prescription and over-the-counter drugs. Clicking on a drug listed within the 'interactions' section will reveal full details of that drug. </li> <li>The pregnancy category for the drug follows, if applicable. </li> <li>Special warnings and clinically relevant notes (including black box warnings, if applicable) are also included for each drug profile. </li> <li>At the top of each drug profile is the option to compare the relevant drug with any other drug on the site.</li> </ul> <p>The above information about any drug will then be followed by a list of Drug Reactions. </p> <p><a name="searchinc" title="searchinc"></a><strong>DRUG PROFILE SYMBOLS</strong></p> <p>These are new elements that have been added to the site to improve the reporting of drug-reactions.<br> </p> <p><strong>Incidence</strong></p> <p><span class="incidence" style="background-color:#000; color:white; margin-left:0em;"><1%</span> <span class="incidence" style="background-color:#0c0; color:black; margin-left:0em;">1–5%</span> <span class="incidence" style="background-color:#00f; color:white; margin-left:0em;">5–10%</span> <span class="incidence" style="background-color:#ff0; color:black; margin-left:0em;">10–15%</span> <span class="incidence" style="background-color:#f90; color:black; margin-left:0em;">15–20%</span> <span class="incidence" style="background-color:red; color:white; margin-left:0em;">20–30%</span> <span class="incidence" style="background-color:red; color:white; margin-left:0em;">>30%</span> </p> <p><a name="searchwar" title="searchlog"></a>Percentages or percentage ranges in colored boxes after a reaction indicate the incidence or prevalence of the listed reactions. These are essentially vague and should be viewed in the context of the detailed references. The key to the color coding for these percentage values is available on the right hand side of the screen.<br> </p> <p><strong>Warnings in other populations</strong></p> <div id="symbols-icons"> <p><img class="symbol-icon" width="27px" height="26px" alt="Breastfeeding" src="/img/person-breastfeeding.svg"><span style="padding-left:0.5em;">Breast feeding</span></p> <p><img class="symbol-icon" width="27px" height="26px" alt="Geriatric" src="/img/person-cane.svg"><span style="padding-left:0.5em;">Geriatric</span></p> <p><img class="symbol-icon" width="27px" height="26px" alt="Pediatric" src="/img/baby.svg"><span style="padding-left:0.5em;">Pediatric</span></p> </div> <p>Logos depicted and described in the symbol key to the right of the page represent warnings in special populations.  These may appear at the top of the drug profile to apply to the whole drug as per prescribing information or FDA labels.  The logos can also appear next to a reference if the reaction has been noted specifically in that population within that study.<a name="searchfla" title="searchfla"></a> ‘Geriatric’ applies to any patient over the age of 75; ‘Pediatric’ applies to those aged 18 and under.</p> <p><strong>Seriousness</strong></p> <p><i class="fa fa-flag" style="color:#ffeb3b; text-shadow: 0px 0px 1px black;" title="Hospitalization possible"></i><span style="padding-left:0.5em;">Hospitalization possible</span><br><i class="fa fa-flag" style="color:orange;" title="Life threatening"></i><span style="padding-left:0.5em;">Life threatening</span><br><i class="fa fa-flag" style="color:red;" title="Fatal"></i><span style="padding-left:0.5em;">Fatal</span><br></p> <p>Flags at the side of a reference or reaction indicate the severity of the reaction observed.  The flags can apply to the reaction to the drug being viewed, or to a reference (study) in which the seriousness is noted. </p> <p><strong>FDA PREGNANCY CATEGORY</strong></p> <p>A new labeling rule (effective June 30, 2015) has been introduced by the US FDA which expands the information required in the prescribing information relating to Pregnancy, Lactation and Females and Males of Reproductive Potential. This information applies to new drugs and will be phased in gradually for prescription drugs approved on or after June 30, 2001. A brief general summary statement reflecting the risk for pregnant women is included in each new drug profile; however, health care providers are advised to check the individual drug label for full information.</p><p>The former FDA-assigned pregnancy categories as used in the Drug Formulary are as follows:</p> <p><strong>Category A</strong><br> Adequate and well-controlled studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in the first trimester of pregnancy (and there is no evidence of risk in later trimesters).<br> <br> <strong>Category B</strong><br> Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women.<br> <br> <strong>Category C</strong><br> Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.<br> <br> <strong>Category D</strong><br> There is positive evidence of human fetal risk based on adverse reaction data from investigational or marketing experience or studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.<br> <br> <strong>Category X</strong><br> Studies in animals or humans have demonstrated fetal abnormalities and/or there is positive evidence of human fetal risk based on adverse reaction data from investigational or marketing experience, and the risks involved in use of the drug in pregnant women clearly outweigh potential benefits.</p> <p><strong>DRUG REACTIONS</strong></p> <p>Reactions listed within any drug profile are those adverse reactions and cutaneous eruptions that could arise as a result of the particular generic drug. These reactions are classified into the following categories:</p> <p>Please note that the list of reactions has been changed so that reactions after skin, hair, nails and mucosal are now in alphabetical order, i.e.</p> <ul class="generic"> <li>Skin</li> <li>Hair</li> <li>Nails</li> <li>Mucosal</li> <li>Cardiovascular</li> <li>Central Nervous System</li> <li>Endocrine/Metabolic</li> <li>Gastrointestinal/Hepatic</li> <li>Genitourinary</li> <li>Hematologic</li> <li>Local</li> <li>Neuromuscular/Skeletal</li> <li>Ocular</li> <li>Otic</li> <li>Renal</li> <li>Respiratory</li> <li>Other</li> </ul> <p>Clicking on any of the reactions will take you to a page that may contain a brief description and, sometimes, images of that particular reaction pattern. From this page, you can bring up a list of all drugs that are known to cause that reaction. </p> <p>There are occasions when there are very few adverse reactions to a specific drug. These drugs are still included in the database since there is often a positive significance in negative findings. </p> <p><strong>DRUG REVIEW ARTICLE</strong></p> <p>A green tab at the end of a drug profile indicates that there is a review or safety evaluation of this drug in the Taylor & Francis journal <em>Expert Opinion on Drug Safety.</em> Clicking on this tab will open the Summary page for the relevant article. Drugs which have recently been reviewed include:</p><ul class="generic"><li>Adalimumab</li><li>Beclomethasone</li><li>Dinutuximab</li><li>Emicizumab</li><li>Osimertinib</li><li>Rucaparib</li></ul> <hr> <h5><a name="references" title="references"></a>References and links to PubMed/Medline</h5> <p>This database has over 125,000 links to references - both research papers and reviews. References are listed on drug-profile pages and serve as peer-reviewed evidence for reporting a certain adverse reaction to that drug. Where there are more than one, the most recent citation appears at the top of the list. </p> <p>As a departure from conventional style, reference listings are formatted in the following order: </p> <ul> <li>The year appears first, in parentheses.</li> <li>Last name and initial(s) of the principal author follows. A plus sign after the author's name denotes one or more co-authors. </li> <li>Journal name (standard abbreviation where possible) is in italics.</li> <li>Volume number and the first page of the article come next. </li> <li>Books, when cited, include the publisher and page number. </li> <li>Internet articles and other sources, when cited, give as much information as is available to us. </li> </ul> <p>Click on the date and/or author to link out to the Abstract of that paper on PubMed/Medline, which will open in a new window. </p> <p>Review articles are highlighted as such at the end of the reference. </p> <p><strong>Other notes</strong> <br> <br> Percentages or percentage ranges in colored boxes after a reaction indicate the incidence or prevalence of the listed reactions. Simply enter the names of the drugs and the reaction(s) you wish to research into the search fields, or select them from the drop-down lists provided.</p> <p>The database will then display each selected drug together with the reaction (where available) in the relevant profile. The number of citations for an adverse reaction is presented in square brackets following each reaction.</p> <p>The displayed results show which drugs have ALL the selected reactions reported and those which only have SOME of them. Simply select the class and the reaction(s) you wish to search from the drop-down lists provided.</p> <p>The database will then display a table of all the drugs within the class with Yes or No in each reaction column.
