It is often associated with humility, patience, and a spirit of peace. In the biblical context, gentleness is a fruit of the Spirit, reflecting the nature of Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit in a believer's life.

Biblical References:
Gentleness is frequently mentioned in the Scriptures as a virtue to be cultivated by believers. In Galatians 5:22-23, it is listed as one of the fruits of the Spirit: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law."

The Apostle Paul emphasizes the importance of gentleness in the life of a Christian leader. In 1 Timothy 3:3, he instructs that an overseer must not be violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, and free from the love of money. Similarly, in Titus 3:2, believers are encouraged "to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone."

Christ as the Model of Gentleness:
Jesus Christ is the ultimate example of gentleness. In Matthew 11:29, He invites His followers to learn from Him, saying, "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." His approach to sinners, the marginalized, and even His disciples was marked by a gentle spirit, demonstrating compassion and understanding.

Gentleness in Relationships:
Gentleness is crucial in maintaining healthy and loving relationships. Ephesians 4:2 urges believers to "be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love." This quality helps in resolving conflicts, fostering unity, and building up the body of Christ.

Gentleness in Witnessing and Correction:
When sharing the gospel or correcting others, gentleness is essential. 1 Peter 3:15 advises believers to defend their faith with gentleness and respect: "But in your hearts sanctify Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give a defense to everyone who asks you the reason for the hope that you have. But respond with gentleness and respect." Similarly, Galatians 6:1 instructs those who are spiritual to restore a person caught in sin with a spirit of gentleness.

The Power of Gentleness:
Though often perceived as weakness, gentleness is a powerful force. Proverbs 15:1 states, "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." Gentleness can diffuse tension, promote healing, and reflect the love of Christ to a watching world.

Cultivating Gentleness:
Believers are called to actively pursue gentleness as part of their spiritual growth. Colossians 3:12 encourages Christians to "clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience." This involves a conscious effort to allow the Holy Spirit to transform one's heart and actions, aligning them with the character of Christ.
Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary
(n.) The quality or state of being gentle, well-born, mild, benevolent, docile, etc.; gentility; softness of manners, disposition, etc.; mildness.
International Standard Bible Encyclopedia
GENTLENESS
jen'-t'-l-nes (`anah; epieikeia, chrestotes): In 2 Samuel 22:36 `anah, "to bend low," "to condescend," is translated "gentleness," "Thy gentleness hath made me great," the Revised Version, margin "or condescension"; so also Psalm 18:35, where the word is `anwah "humility," "gentleness," or "condescension."
