and power was given them, <i>even</i> as the scorpions of the earth have power. <A name="5"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/revelation/9-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>And order was given them, not to hurt the grass of the earth, nor any green <i>thing,</i> nor any tree; but only the men, who had not the seal of God on their foreheads. <A name="6"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/revelation/9-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>And to them was given <i>power,</i> not to kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment <i>was</i> like the torment of a scorpion when it striketh a man. <A name="7"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/revelation/9-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it: and they shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.<p> <A name="8"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/revelation/9-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>And the resemblance of the locusts <i>was</i> like horses prepared for war; and on their heads <i>were</i> as it were crowns like gold, and their faces as the faces of men. <A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/revelation/9-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And they had hair like the hair of women, and their teeth were as <i>the teeth</i> of lions. <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/revelation/9-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And they had breast-plates like breast-plates of iron; and the sound of their wings <i>was</i> like the sound of chariots, <i>with</i> many horses running to battle. <A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/revelation/9-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>And they had tails like scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power <i>was</i> to hurt men five months. <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/revelation/9-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And they had a king over them, the angel of the bottomless pit; whose name in Hebrew <i>is</i> Abaddon, and in the Greek <i>tongue</i> Apollyon.<p> <A name="13"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/revelation/9-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span><i>Thus</i> one wo is past, <i>but</i> behold two woes more are coming after.<p> <A name="14"></a><p class="hdg">The Sixth Trumpet<p><span class="reftext"><a href="/revelation/9-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And the sixth angel sounded <i>his</i> trumpet, and I heard a certain voice from the four horns of the golden altar, <i>which is</i> before God, <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/revelation/9-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>saying to the sixth angel, who had the trumpet, Let loose the four angels, that are bound by the great river Euphrates. <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/revelation/9-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And the four angels were let loose; who were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, to kill the third <i>part</i> of men. <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/revelation/9-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>And the number of <i>their</i> armies <i>was</i> two hundred millions: for I heard the number of them. <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/revelation/9-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and those that sat on them, <i>that is,</i> having breast-plates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses <i>were</i> like the heads of lions, and out of their mouths came fire, and smoke, and brimstone. <A name="19"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/revelation/9-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And by these three <i>things,</i> by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which came out of their mouths, the third <i>part</i> of men were killed. <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/revelation/9-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails <i>also;</i> for their tails <i>are</i> like serpents, having heads: and with these <i>likewise</i> they do mischief.<p> <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/revelation/9-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And the rest of the men, who were not killed by these plagues, yet repented not of the works of their hands, <i>so as</i> not to worship demons, and idols of gold, and of silver, and of brass, and of stone, and of wood;
