But as Alan emphasized, “Planning and communication are really the two most essential ways to stay in budget and minimize disruptions — and it is our responsibility as licensed contractors to ensure that the families we work with are given that consideration.”</p><p id="h1570614-p5" class="permalinkable">Suzi further explained that waiting as a strategy to save money is never advisable. “The most important thing to remember is that postponing or delaying your remodeling is not strategic planning. In fact, you are wasting your time if you get bids with the intention of waiting till after the summer because prices will change,” said Suzi. “And you are going to spend more money by waiting. People think it’s cheaper in the winter, but material costs, wages, oil and gas prices go up, not down — so determining the most cost-efficient time season is not about the weather or supply-demand chain. The best season is now.”</p><p id="h1570614-p6" class="permalinkable">Both advised strongly that if you are considering a remodel, remember the planning and permitting time involved as well. “You still have time for that tropical deck,” said Suzi, “but if what you have in mind is a bigger project like a kitchen remodel or room addition, you are running out of time if you want to get the best
