<a href="/matthew/13-4.htm">4</a>and as he sowed<MG4687>, some<MG3739, 3303a> seeds fell<MG4098> beside<MG3844> the road<MG3598>, and the birds<MG4071> came<MG2064> and ate<MG2719> them up<MG2719>. <a href="/matthew/13-5.htm">5</a>Others<MG243> fell<MG4098> on the rocky<MG4075> places, where<MG3699> they did not have<MG2192> much<MG4183> soil<MG1093>; and because<MG1223> they had<MG2192> no<MG3361> root<MG4491>, they withered<MG3583> away<MG3583>. <a href="/matthew/13-7.htm">7</a>Others<MG243> fell<MG4098> <a href="#fn">[a]</a>among<MG1909> the thorns<MG173>, and the thorns<MG173> came<MG305> up<MG305> and choked<MG638> them out. <a href="/matthew/13-8.htm">8</a>But others<MG243> fell<MG4098> on the good<MG2570> soil<MG1093> and yielded<MG1325> a crop<MG2590>, some<MG3739, 3303a> a hundred<MG1540>, some<MG3739> sixty<MG1835>, and some<MG3739> thirty<MG5144b> times as much. <a href="/matthew/13-9.htm">9</a>The one who has<MG2192> ears<MG3775>, <a href="#fn">[b]</a>let him hear<MG191>.” An Explanation for Parables<a href="/matthew/13-10.htm">10</a>And the disciples<MG3101> came<MG4334> up<MG4334> and said<MG3004> to Him, “Why<MG1223, 5101> do You speak<MG2980> to them in parables<MG3850b>?” <a href="/matthew/13-11.htm">11</a>And <a href="#fn">[c]</a>Jesus answered<MG611> them, “To you it has been granted<MG1325> to know<MG1097> the mysteries<MG3466> of the kingdom<MG932> of heaven<MG3772>, but to them it has not been granted<MG1325>. <a href="/matthew/13-12.htm">12</a>For whoever<MG3748> has<MG2192>, to him more shall be given<MG1325>, and he will have<MG4052> an<MG4052> abundance<MG4052>; but whoever<MG3748> does not have<MG2192>, even<MG2532> what<MG3739> he has<MG2192> shall be taken<MG142> away<MG142> from him. <a href="/matthew/13-13.htm">13</a>Therefore<MG1223, 3778> I speak<MG2980> to them in parables<MG3850b>; because<MG3754> while seeing<MG991> they do not see<MG991>, and while hearing<MG191> they do not hear<MG191>, nor<MG3761> do they understand<MG4920>. <a href="/matthew/13-14.htm">14</a>And <a href="#fn">[d]</a>in their case the prophecy<MG4394> of Isaiah<MG2268> is being fulfilled<MG378>, which says<MG3004>, <t>‘<a href="#fn">[e]</a>YOU SHALL KEEP<MG189> ON LISTENING<MG191>, <a href="#fn">[f]</a>BUT SHALL NOT UNDERSTAND<MG4920>; <t>AND <a href="#fn">[g]</a>YOU SHALL KEEP<MG991> ON LOOKING<MG991>, <a href="#fn">[h]</a>BUT SHALL NOT PERCEIVE<MG3708>; <poetry><a href="/matthew/13-15.htm">15</a>FOR THE HEART<MG2588> OF THIS<MG3778> PEOPLE<MG2992> HAS BECOME<MG3975> DULL<MG3975>, <t>WITH THEIR EARS<MG3775> THEY SCARCELY<MG917> HEAR<MG191>, <t>AND THEY HAVE CLOSED<MG2576> THEIR EYES<MG3788>, <t>OTHERWISE<MG3379> THEY MIGHT SEE<MG3708> WITH THEIR EYES<MG3788>, <t>HEAR<MG191> WITH THEIR EARS<MG3775>, <t>UNDERSTAND<MG4920> WITH THEIR HEART<MG2588>, AND RETURN<MG1994>, <t>AND I WOULD HEAL<MG2390> THEM.’ <A><a href="/matthew/13-16.htm">16</a>But blessed<MG3107> are your eyes<MG3788>, because<MG3754> they see<MG991>; and your ears<MG3775>, because<MG3754> they hear<MG191>. <a href="/matthew/13-17.htm">17</a>For truly<MG281> I say<MG3004> to you that many<MG4183> prophets<MG4396> and righteous<MG1342> people<MG1342> longed<MG1937> to see<MG3708> what<MG3739> you see<MG991>, and did not see<MG3708> it, and to hear<MG191> what<MG3739> you hear<MG191>, and did not hear<MG191> it. The Sower Explained<a href="/matthew/13-18.htm">18</a>“Listen<MG191> then<MG3767> to the parable<MG3850b> of the sower<MG4687>. <a href="/matthew/13-19.htm">19</a>When anyone<MG3956> hears<MG191> the <a href="#fn">[i]</a>word<MG3056> of the kingdom<MG932> and does not understand<MG4920> it, the evil<MG4190> one comes<MG2064> and snatches<MG726> away<MG726> what<MG3588> has been sown<MG4687> in his heart<MG2588>. This<MG3778> is the one sown<MG4687> with seed beside<MG3844> the road<MG3598>. <a href="/matthew/13-20.htm">20</a>The one sown<MG4687> with seed on the rocky<MG4075> places, this<MG3778> is the one who hears<MG191> the word<MG3056> and immediately<MG2117> receives<MG2983> it with joy<MG5479>; <a href="/matthew/13-21.htm">21</a>yet<MG1161> he has<MG2192> no<MG3756> firm root<MG4491> in himself<MG1438>, but is only temporary<MG4340>, and when affliction<MG2347> or<MG2228> persecution<MG1375> occurs<MG1096> because<MG1223> of the <a href="#fn">[j]</a>word<MG3056>, immediately<MG2117> he <a href="#fn">[k]</a>falls<MG4624> away<MG4624>. <a href="/matthew/13-22.htm">22</a>And the one sown<MG4687> with seed among<MG1519> the thorns<MG173>, this<MG3778> is the one who hears<MG191> the word<MG3056>, and the anxiety<MG3308> of the <a href="#fn">[l]</a>world<MG165> and the deceitfulness<MG539> of wealth<MG4149> choke<MG4846> the word<MG3056>, and it <a href="#fn">[m]</a>becomes<MG1096> unfruitful<MG175>. <a href="/matthew/13-23.htm">23</a>But the one sown<MG4687> with seed on the good<MG2570> soil<MG1093>, this<MG3778> is the one who hears<MG191> the word<MG3056> and understands<MG4920> it, who<MG3739> indeed<MG1211> bears<MG2592> fruit<MG2592> and produces<MG4160>, some<MG3739, 3303a> a hundred<MG1540>, some<MG3739> sixty<MG1835>, and some<MG3739> thirty<MG5144b> times as much.” Weeds among Wheat<a href="/matthew/13-24.htm">24</a>Jesus presented<MG3908> another<MG243> parable<MG3850b> to them, saying<MG3004>, “The kingdom<MG932> of heaven<MG3772> <a href="#fn">[n]</a>is<MG3666> like<MG3666> a man<MG444> who sowed<MG4687> good<MG2570> seed<MG4690> in his field<MG68>. <a href="/matthew/13-25.htm">25</a>But while<MG1722> his men<MG444> were sleeping<MG2518>, his enemy<MG2190> came<MG2064> and sowed<MG1986b> <a href="#fn">[o]</a>weeds<MG2215> among<MG303, 3319> the wheat<MG4621>, and left<MG565>. <a href="/matthew/13-26.htm">26</a>And when<MG3753> the <a href="#fn">[p]</a>wheat<MG5528> sprouted<MG985> and produced<MG4160> grain<MG2590>, then<MG5119> the weeds<MG2215> also<MG2532> became<MG5316> evident<MG5316>. <a href="/matthew/13-27.htm">27</a>And the slaves<MG1401> of the landowner<MG3617> came<MG4334> and said<MG3004> to him, ‘Sir<MG2962>, did you not sow<MG4687> good<MG2570> seed<MG4690> in your field<MG68>? <a href="#fn">[q]</a>How<MG4159> then<MG3767> does it have<MG2192> weeds<MG2215>?’ <a href="/matthew/13-28.htm">28</a>And he said<MG5346> to them, ‘<a href="#fn">[r]</a>An enemy<MG2190, 444> has done<MG4160> this<MG3778>!’ The slaves<MG1401> *said<MG3004> to him, ‘Do you want<MG2309> us, then<MG3767>, to go<MG565> and gather<MG4816> them up<MG4816>?’ <a href="/matthew/13-29.htm">29</a>But he *said<MG5346>, ‘No<MG3756>; while you are gathering<MG4816> up<MG4816> the weeds<MG2215>, you may uproot<MG1610> the wheat<MG4621> with them. <a href="/matthew/13-30.htm">30</a>Allow<MG863> both<MG297> to grow<MG4885> together<MG4885> until<MG2193> the harvest<MG2326>; and at the time<MG2540> of the harvest<MG2326> I will say<MG3004> to the reapers<MG2327>, “First<MG4413> gather<MG4816> up<MG4816> the weeds<MG2215> and bind<MG1210> them in bundles<MG1197> to burn<MG2618> them; but gather<MG4863> the wheat<MG4621> into my barn<MG596>.”’” The Mustard Seed<a href="/matthew/13-31.htm">31</a>He presented<MG3908> another<MG243> parable<MG3850b> to them, saying<MG3004>, “The kingdom<MG932> of heaven<MG3772> is like<MG3664> a mustard<MG4615> seed<MG2848>, which<MG3739> a person<MG444> took<MG2983> and sowed<MG4687> in his field<MG68>; <a href="/matthew/13-32.htm">32</a>and this<MG3739> is smaller<MG3398> than all<MG3956> the other seeds<MG4690>, but when<MG3752> it is fully grown<MG837>, it is larger<MG3173> than the garden<MG3001> plants<MG3001> and becomes<MG1096> a tree<MG1186>, so<MG5620> that<MG5620> THE BIRDS<MG4071> OF THE SKY<MG3772> come<MG2064> and NEST<MG2681> IN ITS BRANCHES<MG2798>.” The Leaven<a href="/matthew/13-33.htm">33</a>He spoke<MG2980> another<MG243> parable<MG3850b> to them: “The kingdom<MG932> of heaven<MG3772> is like<MG3664> <a href="#fn">[s]</a>leaven<MG2219>, which<MG3739> a woman<MG1135> took<MG2983> and hid<MG1470> in three<MG5140> <a href="#fn">[t]</a>sata<MG4568> of flour<MG224> until<MG2193> it was all<MG3650> leavened<MG2220>.” <a href="/matthew/13-34.htm">34</a>All<MG3956> these<MG3778> things<MG3778> Jesus<MG2424> spoke<MG2980> to the crowds<MG3793> in parables<MG3850b>, and He did not speak<MG2980> anything<MG3762> to them without<MG5565> a parable<MG3850b>. <a href="/matthew/13-35.htm">35</a>This was so<MG3704> that<MG3704> what<MG3588> was spoken<MG3004> through<MG1223> the prophet<MG4396> would be <a href="#fn">[u]</a>fulfilled<MG4137>: “I WILL OPEN<MG455> MY MOUTH<MG4750> IN PARABLES<MG3850b>; <t>I WILL PROCLAIM<MG2044> THINGS<MG2928> HIDDEN<MG2928> SINCE<MG575> THE FOUNDATION<MG2602> OF THE WORLD<MG2889>.” The Weeds Explained<a href="/matthew/13-36.htm">36</a>Then<MG5119> He left<MG863> the crowds<MG3793> and went<MG2064> into the house<MG3614>. And His disciples<MG3101> came<MG4334> to Him and said<MG3004>, “Explain<MG1285> to us the parable<MG3850b> of the <a href="#fn">[v]</a>weeds<MG2215> of the field<MG68>.” <a href="/matthew/13-37.htm">37</a>And He said<MG3004>, “The one who sows<MG4687> the good<MG2570> seed<MG4690> is the Son<MG5207> of Man<MG444>, <a href="/matthew/13-38.htm">38</a>and the field<MG68> is the world<MG2889>; and as for the good<MG2570> seed<MG4690>, these<MG3778> are the sons<MG5207> of the kingdom<MG932>; and the weeds<MG2215> are the sons<MG5207> of the evil<MG4190> one; <a href="/matthew/13-39.htm">39</a>and the enemy<MG2190> who sowed<MG4687> them is the devil<MG1228>, and the harvest<MG2326> is the <a href="#fn">[w]</a>end<MG4930> of the age<MG165>; and the reapers<MG2327> are angels<MG32a>. <a href="/matthew/13-40.htm">40</a>So<MG3779> just<MG5618> as the weeds<MG2215> are gathered<MG4816> up<MG4816> and burned<MG2618> with fire<MG4442>, so<MG3779> shall it be at the <a href="#fn">[x]</a>end<MG4930> of the age<MG165>. <a href="/matthew/13-41.htm">41</a>The Son<MG5207> of Man<MG444> will send<MG649> forth<MG649> His angels<MG32a>, and they will gather<MG4816> out of His kingdom<MG932> <a href="#fn">[y]</a>all<MG3956> stumbling<MG4625> blocks<MG4625>, and those<MG3588> who commit<MG4160> lawlessness<MG458>, <a href="/matthew/13-42.htm">42</a>and they will throw<MG906> them into the furnace<MG2575> of fire<MG4442>; in that place<MG1563> there will be weeping<MG2805> and gnashing<MG1030> of teeth<MG3599>. <a href="/matthew/13-43.htm">43</a>Then<MG5119> THE RIGHTEOUS<MG1342> WILL SHINE<MG1584> FORTH<MG1584> LIKE<MG5613> THE SUN<MG2246> in the kingdom<MG932> of their Father<MG3962>. The one who has<MG2192> ears<MG3775>, <a href="#fn">[z]</a>let him hear<MG191>. Hidden Treasure<a href="/matthew/13-44.htm">44</a>“The kingdom<MG932> of heaven<MG3772> is like<MG3664> a treasure<MG2344> hidden<MG2928> in the field<MG68>, which<MG3739> a man<MG444> found<MG2147> and hid<MG2928> again; and from <a href="#fn">[aa]</a>joy<MG5479> over it he goes<MG5217> and sells<MG4453> everything<MG3745> that he has<MG2192>, and buys<MG59> that field<MG68>. A Costly Pearl<a href="/matthew/13-45.htm">45</a>“Again<MG3825>, the kingdom<MG932> of heaven<MG3772> is like<MG3664> a merchant<MG1713> seeking<MG2212> fine<MG2570> pearls<MG3135>, <a href="/matthew/13-46.htm">46</a>and upon finding<MG2147> one<MG1520> pearl<MG3135> of great<MG4186> value<MG4186>, he went<MG565> and sold<MG4097> everything<MG3956> that he had<MG2192> and bought<MG59> it. A Dragnet<a href="/matthew/13-47.htm">47</a>“Again<MG3825>, the kingdom<MG932> of heaven<MG3772> is like<MG3664> a dragnet<MG4522> that was cast<MG906> into the sea<MG2281> and gathered<MG4863> fish of every<MG3956> kind<MG1085>; <a href="/matthew/13-48.htm">48</a>and when<MG3753> it was filled<MG4137>, they pulled<MG307> it up<MG307> on the beach<MG123>; and they sat<MG2523> down<MG2523> and gathered<MG4816> the good<MG2570> fish into containers<MG32b>, but the bad<MG4550> they threw<MG906> away<MG1854>. <a href="/matthew/13-49.htm">49</a>So<MG3779> it will be at the <a href="#fn">[ab]</a>end<MG4930> of the age<MG165>: the angels<MG32a> will come<MG1831> forth<MG1831> and remove<MG873> the wicked<MG4190> from among<MG3319> the righteous<MG1342>, <a href="/matthew/13-50.htm">50</a>and they will throw<MG906> them into the furnace<MG2575> of fire<MG4442>; in<MG1563> that<MG1563> place<MG1563> there will be weeping<MG2805> and gnashing<MG1030> of teeth<MG3599>. <a href="/matthew/13-51.htm">51</a>“Have you understood<MG4920> all<MG3956> these<MG3778> things<MG3778>?” They *said<MG3004> to Him, “Yes<MG3483a>.” <a href="/matthew/13-52.htm">52</a>And <a href="#fn">[ac]</a>Jesus said<MG3004> to them, “Therefore<MG1223, 3778> every<MG3956> scribe<MG1122> who has become<MG3100> a<MG3100> disciple<MG3100> of the kingdom<MG932> of heaven<MG3772> is like<MG3664> a head<MG3617> of<MG3617> a<MG3617> household<MG3617>, who<MG3748> brings<MG1544b> out<MG1544b> of his treasure<MG2344> new<MG2537> things<MG2537> and old<MG3820>.” Jesus Revisits Nazareth<a href="/matthew/13-53.htm">53</a>When<MG3753> Jesus<MG2424> had finished<MG5055> these<MG3778> parables<MG3850b>, He departed<MG3332> from<MG1564> there<MG1564>. <a href="/matthew/13-54.htm">54</a>And He came<MG2064> to <a href="#fn">[ad]</a>His hometown<MG3968> and began teaching<MG1321> them in their synagogue<MG4864>, with<MG5620> the<MG5620> result<MG5620> that<MG5620> they were astonished<MG1605>, and said<MG3004>, “Where<MG4159> did this<MG3778> man<MG3778> acquire this<MG3778> wisdom<MG4678> and these <a href="#fn">[ae]</a>miraculous<MG1411> powers<MG1411>? <a href="/matthew/13-55.htm">55</a>Is this<MG3778> not the carpenter’s<MG5045> son<MG5207>? Is His mother<MG3384> not called<MG3004> Mary<MG3137>, and His brothers<MG80>, James<MG2385>, Joseph<MG2501>, Simon<MG4613>, and Judas<MG2455>? <a href="/matthew/13-56.htm">56</a>And His sisters<MG79>, are they not all<MG3956> with us? Where<MG4159> then<MG3767> did this<MG3778> man<MG3778> acquire all<MG3956> these<MG3778> things<MG3778>?” <a href="/matthew/13-57.htm">57</a>And they took<MG4624> offense<MG4624> at Him.
