The work of this programme will continue into 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>The RSA was the learning partner for this programme; we collaborated with each Hub to understand their challenges and develop a support model with a focus on adopting innovations and sharing emerging practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our coaching sought to uncover and address the key challenges to integrating public health and economic development, and pilot novel, innovative approaches in five areas across the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Economies for Healthier Lives: the findings<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Economies for Healthier Lives programme reveals that when public health and economic development teams align strategies, they can amplify impact\u2014evident in projects across the UK that have started to embed health considerations into local economic plans. This alignment promotes a holistic vision where economic growth, social wellbeing, and environmental sustainability reinforce one another.\u202f<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Achieving this integration requires reimagining public services to shift from fragmented approaches to those that support the whole person and community. They allow for greater value for money. Differences across these datasets mean we have focused only on the English and Welsh Core Cities. Creative Corridors is an emerging policy idea that could harness the creative industries' enormous potential to accelerate growth across places in the UK and contribute to this mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The UK is home to 55 creative clusters identified by the DCMS, and a further 700 creative microclusters, which have been the focus of policy intervention. In addition, the UK also has what's been referred to as a 'creative supercluster': London and the M25. London and the South East accounted for 68% of the UK creative industry's gross value added, or GVA, (<span>\u00a371 billion)<\/span> in 2019. Despite the historic dominance of this supercluster - and indeed of London in the UK's economy as a whole - the presence of creative industries across the UK makes it uniquely placed to unleash prosperity in places across the four nations, owing also to its unique economic dynamism and social impacts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>In this report by the RSA, <a title=\"Creative PEC website\" href=\"https:\/\/pec.ac.uk\/\">Creative PEC<\/a> and <a title=\"Arts Council England website\" href=\"https:\/\/www.artscouncil.org.uk\/\">Arts Council England<\/a>, creative corridors are offered as one potential mechanism for harnessing this growth. Our ambition is that creative corridors will stimulate economic growth by increasing linkages \u2013 supply chains, R&D partnerships, or networks of people in the labour market \u2013 between creative clusters and microclusters over a large geographic area. Through this, they aim to bring the agglomeration effects often seen in creative clusters to a larger geographic scale and provide a shared regional strategy. Both the PDAs and RSA Spark share the same ambition to be inclusive and impactful, ensuring all pupils have the chance to unleash their creativity for positive change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We set key areas of focus that would help us to move forward on those ambitions in 2024, as well as provide opportunities to capture learnings that support the shaping of RSA Spark. Consequently, the concept is distinct from related concepts such as income, poverty, and employment status, as it includes the subjective experience of one's economic reality, which in turn involves other facets such as one's ability to cope \u2013 both materially and psychologically \u2013 with financial risk and unforeseen economic challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on our conversations with young people, and a review of existing research in the field, we propose some principles to underlie policy for young people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Make young people's economic security a national priority,<\/strong> for the sake of both those young people and that of the UK as a whole.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Recognise, and research, young adults as a distinct category.<\/strong> This report has shown that young people often face the same costs as adults, yet do not have the ability to respond to these challenges as adults, through income or experience. We did refine our approach to evaluation and delivery of the Pupil Design Awards using insights and recommendations from the <a title=\"Pupil Design Awards 2021-2022: Final evaluation report - The RSA\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thersa.org\/reports\/pupil-design-awards-2021-2022-final-evaluation-report\">2021-22 evaluation<\/a>. Cities are the means through which we reach more lives, more quickly, than through any other form of human organisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the UK economy is stalled. The social fabric is frayed. And the planet is depleted. This is not the endowment we would want the next generation to inherit, economically, socially or ecologically. To avoid that fate we will need to act, at scale and speed, to reinvest in all these of these systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A great many of the UK's great cities are hives of activity, hubs of culture, mechanisms of delivery, envied around the world. Yet so much of their potential remains untapped. There is huge scope for them to add dynamism to our economies, cohesiveness to our communities, redemption to our environment. The long-term dividends from doing so are enormous. The practical question is - how it is to be done?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This report seeks to provide practical and implementable answers to that question. It is the culmination of 12 months\u2019 work by the Urban Futures Commission which we had the honour to co-chair.
