Blessed <i>is</i> He Who cometh in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!"<p> <A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>And, when He entered into Jerusalem, all the city was startled, saying, "Who is this?" <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And the multitudes said, "This is the Prophet, Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee."<p> <A name="13"></a><p class="hdg">Jesus Cleanses the Temple<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../mark/11.htm#15">Mark 11:15–19</a>; <a href ="../luke/19.htm#45">Luke 19:45–48</a>; <a href ="../john/2.htm#12">John 2:12–25</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And Jesus entered into the temple, and cast out all those selling and buying in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money-changers, and the seats of those selling the doves. <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And He saith to them, <FR>"It has been written, 'My house, shall be called a house of prayer; but ye are making it a den of robbers!'"<Fr><p> <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And <i>the</i> blind and lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them. <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And the high-priests and scribes, seeing the wonderful things which He did, and the boys who were crying in the temple, and saying, "Hosanna to the Son of David!" were much displeased, <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>and said to Him, "Dost Thou hear what these are saying?" And Jesus saith to them, <FR>"Yes; did ye never read, 'Out of <i>the</i> mouth of babes and sucklings Thou didst perfect praise!'"<Fr> <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And, leaving them, He went forth out of the city to Bethany, and lodged there.<p> <A name="19"></a><p class="hdg">The Barren Fig Tree<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../mark/11.htm#12">Mark 11:12–14</a>; <a href ="../mark/11.htm#20">Mark 11:20–25</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And in the morning, returning into the city, He hungered. <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And, seeing one fig tree by the way, He came to it, and found nothing thereon except leaves only. And He saith to it, <FR>"No more may fruit come from you forever."<Fr> And immediately the fig tree withered away!<p> <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And the disciples, seeing <i>it</i>, wondered, saying, "How quickly the fig tree withered away!" <A name="22"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>And Jesus, answering, said to them, <FR>"Verily I say to you, if ye have faith, and do not doubt, not only the <i>withering</i> of the fig tree shall ye accomplish, but, even if ye say to this mountain, 'Be lifted up, and be cast into the sea,' it shall be done.<Fr> <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span><FR>And all things whatsoever ye ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive."<Fr><p> <A name="24"></a><p class="hdg">Jesus’ Authority Challenged<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../mark/11.htm#27">Mark 11:27–33</a>; <a href ="../luke/20.htm">Luke 20:1–8</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>And, when He came into the temple, the high-priests and the elders of the people came to Him <i>while He was</i> teaching, saying, "By what authority art Thou doing these things? And who gave Thee this authority?" <A name="25"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>And Jesus, answering, said, <FR>"I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell Me, I also will tell you by what authority I do these things:<Fr> <A name="26"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span><FR>The immersion of John?whence was it? from Heaven or from men?"<Fr> And they were reasoning among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From Heaven,' He will say to us, 'Why, then, did ye not believe him?' <A name="27"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>But, if we say, 'From men,' we fear the multitude; for all hold John as a prophet." <A name="28"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>And, answering Jesus, they said, "We do not know." He also said to them, <FR>"Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things."<Fr><p> <A name="29"></a><p class="hdg">The Parable of the Two Sons<p><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span><FR>"But what think ye? A man had two children; and to the first, he said, 'Child, go, work today in the vineyard.'<Fr> <A name="30"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span><FR>And he, answering, said, 'I <i>go</i>, sir,' and he went not.<Fr> <A name="31"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span><FR>And, coming to the second, he spake in like manner; and he, answering, said, 'I am not willing;' but later, repenting, he went.<Fr> <A name="32"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span><FR>Which of the two did the will of the father?"<Fr> They say, "The last." Jesus saith to them, <FR>"Verily I say to you that the tax-collectors and the harlots are going into the Kingdom of God before you.<Fr> <A name="33"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span><FR>For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and ye did not believe him; but the tax-collectors and the harlots believed him; but ye, having seen <i>him</i>, did not even repent afterward, that ye might believe him."<Fr><p> <A name="34"></a><p class="hdg">The Parable of the Wicked Tenants<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../mark/12.htm">Mark 12:1–12</a>; <a href ="../luke/20.htm#9">Luke 20:9–18</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/matthew/21-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span><FR>"Hear another parable.
