Kalodimou received her bachelor’s degree in Human Physiology from East London University and her master’s degree in Human Molecular Genetics from the Imperial College University of Medicine in London, UK. She completed her PhD at the University of Medicine in Athens, Greece, with an emphasis on stem cells and factors affecting their viability and absolute numbers. Since 2006, Dr. Kalodimou has studied and working with stem cells from placenta, umbilical cord and adipose tissue, in every day practice and their applications in regenerative medicine and Flow Cytometry. Also is working in the area of human genetics & population genetics as well as cellular standards. In collaboration with the Hellenic Flow Cytometry Society, Kalodimou has developed quality control schemes for stem cell marker enumeration. The goal of her work is to find helpful new applications for flow cytometry, evaluate risk factors for stem cell infusion, and improve the clarity and accessibility of measurements by flow cytometry. Her work quantifies and ranks all risks of flow cytometry enumeration to prevent and minimize the false-positive results from different cytometer uses. She is also working to establish combinations of monoclonal antibodies for mesenchymal and adipose tissue stem cell enumeration. In addition to collaboration with state universities and pharmaceutical companies on research projects, Kalodimou frequently publishes her findings. The Greek version of her first book, Basic Principles in Flow Cytometry, was published in 2010 (in 2015 was placed as reference material in winter semester 7th at Alexandrio ATEI Thessaloniki’s-GR), while in 2013 the English version of her book was published by the American Health Organization and AABB standards - AABB Press USA. The English version of her book was placed as a medical student reference material in the library of Stanford University in 2014, while is a reference material book in BHARATHIAR University, India for post graduate diploma in molecular medicine. The two books are the only books in the field about flow cytometry. Her new book: A Handbook to Mesenchymal Stem Cells in Regenerative Medicine was published this year (11th of June, 2015) by Speg.co. She is the Leader (after election) at AABB CT Subsection: CT Product Manufacturing and Testing, a member of two subsections of the AABB Cellular Therapies Section, a board member (after election) at the AABB Cellular Therapy Accreditation Program Unit for worldwide standards development and accreditation and also an AABB assessor. Her biography was included in the Marquis Who is Who of the world for the years 2014 & 2015, Marquis Who is Who in America 2016 & Marquis Who's Who in Science and Engineering 2017. interests focus on studying pathways and molecular mechanisms regulating cell growth/survival and death/apoptosis in cancer cells Dr Rishi identified and characterized a novel apoptosis inducing protein termed CARP1/CCAR1 that regulates apoptosis induced by diverse agents including an apoptogenic retinoid CD437 Adriamycin Etoposide but not by chemotherapy agents such as Cisplatin CARP1 also regulates apoptosis by EGFRs and protein kinase A CARP1 is a phosphoprotein that functions in part by interacting with multiple regulators of cell growth and apoptosis signaling Data from biopsies of human breast cancers and NonHodgkin’s Lymphomas NHL suggest an inverse correlation of CARP1 expression with the grades of the tumors indicating a potential prognostic value and a tumor suppressor property of CARP1 Our ongoing studies are focused to further elucidate the molecular mechanisms of adriamycin and EGFRs signaling that target CARP1 and CARP1 interactions with regulators of cell growth and apoptosis Our longterm goal is to exploit this knowledge for development of strategies to inhibit a variety of cancers including the drugresistant cancers." data-original-title=""> By analyzing genetic and genomic data of many types in a systems biology framework, he hopes to advance scientific understanding about the genetic mechanisms of human diseases. Believing that complex human disease mechanisms can be fully understood only in the context of the whole biological system, Ali conducts studies that integrate mutation, gene expression and epigenetic data. Applying computational techniques to detect mutations that contribute to cancer initiation and pathogenesis is among his research interests. In addition to quantitative analysis of genetic data, he produces computational tools for generation, analysis and interpretation of genomic data; including specialized target capture, gene expression and sequence analysis methodologies. As a reflection of his productivity, he has authored numerous publications reflecting a variety of computational techniques. Namely, MCMV is virus with highly developed immunoevasive strategy. Upon infection, it reorganizes endosomal system of the host cell and downregulates surface MHC class I molecules with the ultimate goal to replicate itself. The endosomal reorganization starts early in the infection and continues throughout the entire replication cycle until the assembly compartment is established at the beginning of the late phase of infection. In 2007, he joined the Centre for Cell Imaging at the University of Liverpool in UK where he developed a FRET-based assay using photoactivatable fluorescent proteins for imaging the dynamics of protein interactions targeting the NF-B signalling at single cell level. In 2009, he received the Young Scientist Award at the ELRIG Drug Discovery09 Conference in Liverpool. Since July 2010, he had been heavily engaged in a drug discovery program and translational research for pancreas diseases at the Liverpool NIHR Pancreas Biomedical Research Unit PBRU, the University of Liverpool.
