<div class="content"> <div class="field field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden field-name-body"> <h3>General Neurology Fellowship</h3> <p>The overall goal of the general neurology fellowship program at UCSF is to improve and strengthen the quality and breadth of outpatient neurology care. The aim of the program is to train academic leaders in clinical outpatient neurology who are also interested expanding the field through 1) increased clinical understanding of novel areas of neurologic disease 2) practice or policy changes, or 3) improvements in education.</p> <p>The program is non-ACGME. Fellows are encouraged to apply with a novel disease track, education track, or policy and clinical practice tract. The program started in 2021. Currently we are seeking applicants for one adult general neurology clinical fellow for the 2023-2024 academic year with plans to increase to two fellows per year starting 2024-2025. Applications for July 2023 will be due September 2022.</p> <p>The program director oversees the process of selecting applicants for interviews. The program director and two other faculty members review all completed applications. Applicants are offered interviews on a rolling basis (as applications are received and approved for an interview) and interviews occur in September of the year of the date of appointment (fall R4 year for a graduating resident). Applicants interested in future years should contact the fellowship director to express interest and talk about possible fellowship tracks. The interview experience will be a virtual interview with faculty and lunch with most recent past fellow. Selection of fellows also occurs on a rolling basis, with faculty members after each interview day discussing whether an offer of appointment should be made. Appointments typically begin in July and end in June the following year.</p> <p>The training program has been designed with three main tracks. Fellows, with the guidance of the program director and other supervising faculty, choose which track they will enter at the beginning of the program.</p> <p>All fellows are expected to have an interest in pursuing a career as a leader in clinical general neurology.</p> <p>For the Novel Clinical track, prospective fellows might choose to concentrate on areas such as neurogenetics, neuro-gastrointestinal connections, systemic autoimmune-neurologic connections, geriatic neurology or other areas of applicant interest. Rotations will take place in general neurology clinic, UCSF neurology subspecialty clinics, and non-neurology clinics. This program is based on the clinical interests of the fellow with faculty membership from general neurology and another faculty member in a relevant area.</p> <p>For the Education track, prospective fellows will be expected to develop and practice education. Education interests could be in medical student teaching, resident teaching, non-neurologist clinician education, or interdisciplinary education.</p> <p>For Policy and Practice track, prospective fellows should have an intended one to two projects in areas such as public health, practice management, or quality improvement.</p> <p>The general neurology fellowship program consists of the following components.<br /> <br /> 1. Outpatient clinic at UCSF General Neurology Clinic</p> <p>2. Outpatient clinic at San Francisco General Hospital</p> <p>3. Neurology subspeciality and non-neurology rotations; for instance 2021-2022 fellow completed rotations in neurologic ultrasound, neuro-ophthalmology, rheumatology, pain management.</p> <p>4. 80% of time is clinical, 20% of time is devoted to track-based projects. Fellows are expected to complete a track-specific project by the end of the year-long fellowship.</p> <h5><strong>How to Apply</strong></h5> <p>This one-year fellowship opportunity is fully funded and will focus on general neurology and relevant clinical and practice rotations. Prior experience in an ACGME clinical neurophysiology or epilepsy program is preferred.<b> Application requirements include letter of interest, curriculum vitae, list of three references (letters not
