They are mostly youth and were all engaged in humanitarian service when they were arrested. It is one of the largest number of Baha'is taken at once since the 1980s. At the time of his death, Mahrami was being held in a prison in Yazd, Iran, where he had received several death threats and had been forced to perform arduous physical labor.
