The seminar was taught by <a href=\"https:\/\/writingseminars.jhu.edu\/directory\/dora-malech\/\">Dora Malech<\/a> through a collaboration between the Krieger First-Year Seminars, <a href=\"https:\/\/writingseminars.jhu.edu\/\">The Writing Seminars<\/a>, and the Homewood Museum. Since 2010, more than 200 students and alumni from Johns Hopkins have been awarded Fulbright grants to 65 countries on six continents. Fulbright student grants allow rising and current seniors, graduate students, and recent alums to carry out an independent research project, earn a master's degree, or serve as an English teaching assistant while engaging in cultural exchange with their host communities. To apply for a Fulbright grant, you must be a U.S. citizen at the time of application and have a bachelor's degree by the time the grant would start (but not have earned a doctoral degree by the time you apply).<\/p>\n\n<p>The info session will cover the basic grant types, how to choose a host country (from among nearly 130 participating countries), and how NFP supports students and recent graduates applying through Johns Hopkins, which has been a top producer of Fulbright U.S. Student Program grantees for 15 years running.<\/p>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/studentaffairs.jhu.edu\/fellowships\/fulbright\/\">Learn more about Fulbright grants and NFP's advising process<\/a>. Discovering and remediating vulnerabilities in these devices is an imperative for a more secure internet. Unfortunately, vulnerabilities that affect millions of hosts represent only a small fraction of the overall internet. Finding these \"needles\" at internet scale requires collecting an exponentially larger \"haystack.\" In this talk, Erik Rye will describe two novel techniques he developed to collect unprecedentedly large network datasets. He will describe how he used these datasets to enable the discovery of new network security and privacy problems at internet scale. These include stark, real-world security and privacy vulnerabilities, such as revealing troop positions in Ukraine and exposing previously-unreachable Internet of Things devices like smart light bulbs in users' homes. Through case studies and real-world examples, webinar attendees will gain a deeper, evidence-based understanding of supplements and their role in public health.<\/p>\n\n<p>Shelke will highlight advances in research and emerging technologies such as nutrigenomics, microbiome analysis, and biochemical testing and provide insights from cultural and traditional practices worldwide. As most dietary supplements—many with centuries of safe use—require a better understanding of function and safety rather than pharmaceutical-level scrutiny, Shelke will address challenges in integrating supplements into clinical practice within current regulations and explore the implications of Federal Trade Commission and U.S. Food and Drug Administration oversight.<\/p>\n\n<p>Shelke is an Institute of Food Technologists fellow and the founder of Corvus Blue LLC, a firm dedicated to advancing the development and commercialization of food and supplement products with scientific integrity and practical insight.
